Avatar m tn Hi, Your daughter has a previous history of eczema and this rash on her scalp may be seborrheic dermatitis. Has she been assessed along this line? Seborrheic dermatitis should be managed by frequent and vigorous shampooing. Are there other similar skin conditions in other parts of the body such as the chest and axilla. Good hygiene is a good prevention for the flare ups due to seborrheic dermatitis. The cause of this condition is unknown. As for the birthmarks, how would you describe these?
Avatar n tn Some in my family have seborrheic dermatitis. It cleared up on a gluten free diet (no wheat, barley, rye and possibly oats). I'm not saying it will definitely work for you, but it's something for you to try - if it works - no more medicine! If you try the diet, follow it 100% for several months to see if you get improvement. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I have never had any issues with my skin and I have read that seborrheic dermatitis is strongly related to HIV, i also have red eyes and frequent migraines. When do HIV patients start developing seborrheic dermatitis? What other symptoms are developed with it? When performing my last test alcohol was not completely dry on my finger + the final reading was before the 20 minutes mark set by the manufacturer.
1566037 tn?1304298609 Hello, From the symptoms it can be due to seborrheic dermatitis or eczema skin. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp under the nose or anywhere on face. People with seborrheic dermatitis produce too much sebum (the natural skin oil). Treatment usually involves use of antifungal, anti inflammatory and sebo suppressive or Keratolytic ingredients.
Avatar m tn Hello, It looks like seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrhoeic Dermatitis is believed to be an inflammatory reaction related to the proliferation of normal skin habitant Malassezia – a yeast, which produces toxic substances that infect and irate the skin. The disease is neither contagious nor related with diet but it may be aggravated by other illness like Psychological stress, immune compromised patients, neurological diseases like Parkinsonism and stroke.
Avatar m tn Zinc Shampoo for seborrheic dermatitis along with Kerastase Nutritive Bain Oleo-Relax Smoothing Shampoo/conditioner. I also take Viviscal Hair Growth Supplements for the thinning caused by seb-Derm. But most of all I have reduced my sugar intake to minimize yeast production. My reason for the above regimen is because I became cautious about long term use of all the topical steroid creams that eventually thin or damage the layers of skin.

Avatar n tn I was diagnosed by my dermatologist as having Seborrheic Dermatitis however all medications that I have tried have not been working so my doctor has precribed quite a strong medication called Azapress (a generic medication for Imuran). Thus, my questions are as follows: 1. Will this disease ever go away? 2. What is the success rate for this medication to deal with Seborrheic Dermatitis and what are other options?
Avatar f tn Hence if your child is school going then it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis. However it is often hereditary and if you have been diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis, then your child carries the risk of having it in future life during adulthood. Moreover it causes redness and inflammation of skin with yellow patches or red, greasy skin covered with flaky white or yellow scales. Hence it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis in your child’s case but confirmation needs to be done.
Avatar m tn And it may be a bit of an odd question. But I have recently been diagnosed with Seborrheic Dermatitis and have been getting alot of anxiety as it is HIV related. If anyone can please comment if Seborrheic Dermatitis is a common skin disease or if it is predominately related to HIV? I just had a few questions to see if my possible exposures could be related to HIV? Possible exposure 1: Protected sex with 10+ women? (Just wanted to ask what the chances are of getting HIV?

Avatar f tn For a few years now, I have suffered with dry flaky skin around my nose and onto my cheeks. It has never been bad like it looks when I look up seborrheic dermatitis (which one doctor told me I had). I have found the redness is worse in the mornings, redness and blotchy across my upper cheeks. I have had two prescription creams from the doctor, one for seborrheic dermatitis and one for rosacea, both made my skin feel tight and more dry.
Avatar m tn Hello, I cannot confirm anything without examination but it can be seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp under the nose or anywhere on face. You can treat it with over-the-counter dandruff or medicated shampoos. Shampoo the hair vigorously and frequently (preferably daily). Active ingredients in these shampoos include salicylic acid, coal tar, zinc, resorcin, ketoconazole, or selenium.
Avatar n tn I developed seborrheic dermatitis on my face that is mild and controlled by creams a couple of weeks after a sexual encounter with a woman of unknown hiv status. It is now several years later and SD is still with me off and on and I never had it before the encounter and I am experiencing no other symptoms. I have also had anxiety ever since the encounter and have gained 20lbs. When during the course of HIV infection when does SD usually occur?
Avatar f tn Hello, The other possibility that I has thought of was seborrheic dermatitis since the site involved is common for both eczema and seborrheic dermatitis and they closely resemble each other in physical appearance but the lesions of seborrheic dermatitis usually presents as yellow, flaky lesions. A biopsy skin and allergy tests can differentiate between the two and confirm the diagnosis. It is very difficult to comment precisely beyond this stage.

Avatar n tn So my derm diagnosed me with seborrheic dermatitis, they gave me all sorts of shampoos to try but none work. I've had this for months now, and finally after expermimenting with different diets i found that food was not causing it. The seborrheic dermatitis that is all over my hair is also all over my face and now spreading to the back of my ears and side of my neck. I finally concluded the reason why i get it. It seems everytime i was my hair even if i use just water i get a flair up.
