Common Questions and Answers about Seborrheic dermatitis and your diet

seborrheic-dermatitis

Avatar n tn Some in my family have seborrheic dermatitis. It cleared up on a gluten free diet (no wheat, barley, rye and possibly oats). I'm not saying it will definitely work for you, but it's something for you to try - if it works - no more medicine! If you try the diet, follow it 100% for several months to see if you get improvement. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn Hello, It looks like seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrhoeic Dermatitis is believed to be an inflammatory reaction related to the proliferation of normal skin habitant Malassezia – a yeast, which produces toxic substances that infect and irate the skin. The disease is neither contagious nor related with diet but it may be aggravated by other illness like Psychological stress, immune compromised patients, neurological diseases like Parkinsonism and stroke.
Avatar m tn I can understand your concern but seborrheic dermatitis and rosacea do not predispose an individual to have an infection with ringworm. It may be a coincidence in some individuals that they are having any of these conditions and have got ring worm as well. Some people are more exposed to the spores at home or during recreational activities and wrestling is one such activity in which you are coming in close contact with the person who may be having ringworm infection.

Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp under the nose or anywhere on face. People with seborrheic dermatitis produce too much sebum (the natural skin oil). Treatment usually involves use of antifungal, anti inflammatory and sebo suppressive or Keratolytic ingredients.
Avatar f tn I have had two prescription creams from the doctor, one for seborrheic dermatitis and one for rosacea, both made my skin feel tight and more dry. I have tried everything under the sun in the way of creams and am currently using Liz Earle for dry/sensitive skin. I have also tried vitamin e oil on my face which works for a few days then stops.
Avatar m tn For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Avatar f tn I have never had any issues with my skin and I have read that seborrheic dermatitis is strongly related to HIV, i also have red eyes and frequent migraines. When do HIV patients start developing seborrheic dermatitis? What other symptoms are developed with it? When performing my last test alcohol was not completely dry on my finger + the final reading was before the 20 minutes mark set by the manufacturer.
Avatar n tn Seborrheic dermatitis (all doctors agree). 5) Treatment (several dermatologists and general practitioners): - Shampoos: Ketoconazole 2% (on average twice a week for 2 years), tar (2-3 different types), other shampoos (zinc etc - 5-6 different types), - Hormones and lotions: Diprolen gel (14 days) and a cutane solution of adrenal hormones (interval treatment 6 weeks; according to pharmacist this solution was the strongest available (prescription).
Avatar f tn Hence if your child is school going then it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis. However it is often hereditary and if you have been diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis, then your child carries the risk of having it in future life during adulthood. Moreover it causes redness and inflammation of skin with yellow patches or red, greasy skin covered with flaky white or yellow scales. Hence it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis in your child’s case but confirmation needs to be done.
Avatar n tn if someone has seborrheic dermatitis around his lips and chin, does it means he has HIV, or is seborrheic dermatitis a normal skin condition that affect many people.
Avatar n tn As for these dry and flaky spots over the areas involving the nose and around the mouth, this may be a case of perioral dermatitis or seborrheic dermatitis. Perioral dermatitis is usually caused by skin reaction to frequent application of lotions and creams on this area of the face. On the other hand, a seborrheic dermatitis may be secondary to stress and other external factors like the weather. Has this been present for quite sometime? Are the affected areas itchy? Are you eating well?

Avatar m tn Hi, Your daughter has a previous history of eczema and this rash on her scalp may be seborrheic dermatitis. Has she been assessed along this line? Seborrheic dermatitis should be managed by frequent and vigorous shampooing. Are there other similar skin conditions in other parts of the body such as the chest and axilla. Good hygiene is a good prevention for the flare ups due to seborrheic dermatitis. The cause of this condition is unknown. As for the birthmarks, how would you describe these?
Avatar n tn It is now several years later and SD is still with me off and on and I never had it before the encounter and I am experiencing no other symptoms. I have also had anxiety ever since the encounter and have gained 20lbs. When during the course of HIV infection when does SD usually occur? My dermatologist says my SD is very mild and that it does not seem worriesome but is really starting to stress me out because I never had it before.
Avatar n tn Differentials for scalp problems may include seborrheic dermatitis , tinea capitis and discoid lupus. These are just differentials and these may need to be excluded especially when this has been present for quite sometime.
Avatar n tn So my derm diagnosed me with seborrheic dermatitis, they gave me all sorts of shampoos to try but none work. I've had this for months now, and finally after expermimenting with different diets i found that food was not causing it. The seborrheic dermatitis that is all over my hair is also all over my face and now spreading to the back of my ears and side of my neck. I finally concluded the reason why i get it. It seems everytime i was my hair even if i use just water i get a flair up.
Avatar m tn Hello, I cannot confirm anything without examination but it can be seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp under the nose or anywhere on face. You can treat it with over-the-counter dandruff or medicated shampoos. Shampoo the hair vigorously and frequently (preferably daily). Active ingredients in these shampoos include salicylic acid, coal tar, zinc, resorcin, ketoconazole, or selenium.
