Avatar f tn Hello, The black or brown spots can be due to pityriasis versicolor. Pityriasis versicolor (Tinea veriscolor) is a fungal infection caused by commensal yeasts in hot and humid conditions. They may be reddish brown, slightly scaly patches or ugly, depigmented areas that will not tan, especially in suntanned skin. They should be differentiated from seborrheic dermatitis and vitiligo. Selenium sulphide lotion can be applied for around 10-15 minutes, rinsed off and re-applied daily for about a week.

Avatar f tn Hello, Without examination, confirmation of a diagnosis is tough but it can be pityriasis versicolor or pityriasis alba. Pityriasis versicolor is caused by an overgrowth of a yeast fungus and are found mainly on sun exposed areas. Pityriasis alba is a common hypopigmented dermatitis. This is a self-limited disorder that usually resolves by adulthood. Severe cases may benefit by Psoralen plus ultraviolet light A photochemotherapy (PUVA). I suggest you to get it evaluated from a dermatologist.

Avatar f tn As for dandruff shampoo, if this is fungal in nature then this may respond. Medicated shampoos are used for seborrheic dermatitis which also has a fungal component. Just watch out for any redness or itchiness as your child's skin may be sensitive to this.
Avatar n tn Pinkish or tan colored spots on the skin have fungal infections like tinea versicolor as differentials. Other differentials will be a contact dermatitis ,vitiligo and pityriasis alba. The last two may not fit your case. Vitiligo is a condition which manifests as a stark white and well demarcated skin patch . Pityriasis alba usually affects the face and may also appear as light skin patches. Have this assessed by a physician.
Avatar n tn Seborrheic dermatitis would be the primary diagnosis ( petaloid seborrheic dermatitis) with 'pityrisais rosea' coming as close second (Unlikely with such a long duration and scalp involvement) Guess would respond to ketoconazole cremes. Do consult your doc.
Avatar n tn At first it was a bit red but it developed into dark brownish blackish color now and i just do not know what to do. I am really worried about it and i want to know what can it be. I have no clue if it is related to my PCOS condition but i really need to know at least the possible causes for this. Thanks a lot in advanced!
Avatar m tn Hello, It can be due to dermatitis skin, seborrheic dermatitis or due to fungal infections like pityriasis alba. Pityriasis alba is a common skin condition usually seen as dry, fine-scaled, pale patches on the face. No treatment is required and the patches in time will settle in due course of time. The redness, scale and itch if present may be managed with simple emollients and sometimes hydrocortisone, a weak steroid, is also used. Severe cases may require PUVA therapy.

Avatar n tn Hello, It can be due to nummular dermatitis ( a sort of eczema) or pityriasis rosea. Pityriasis rosea is a common human skin disease which presents as numerous patches of pink or red oval rash. The rash may be accompanied by low-grade headache, fever, nausea and fatigue and itching. Topical and oral steroids are needed. Water, sweat, and soap may cause irritation and should be avoided in the disease. Topical zinc oxide and calamine lotion are useful for pruritus.
Avatar m tn Hi, welcome to the forum, the probabilities of the itching with rashes are Atopic dermatitis, Contact dermatitis, sweat dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis and drug reaction. The strongest possibility would be insect bite including chigger bites, mites, flea etc. For itching anti histaminic and medium or low potency topical corticosteroids against prescription are quite effective. Vigorous cleansing with soap and water should be done.
Avatar n tn Hello, For such symptoms Seborrhoeic dermatitis, Pityriasis amianticea ,Tinea capitis (if itchy) and seborrheic keratosis should be ruled out. Seborrhoeic Dermatitis is believed to be an inflammatory reaction related to the proliferation of normal skin habitant Malassezia. I suggest you to get it examined from a dermatologist to confirm the diagnosis.
Avatar f tn Hello, The symptoms are suggestive of pityriasis versicolor. Pityriasis versicolor is caused by a fungus that lives in the skin of almost all adults. Factors that can cause the fungus to become more visible include high humidity and immune or hormone abnormalities. Treatment involves topical and oral antifungal medicines. Also apply topical antifungals like Lamisil or Monistat. Severe cases may need oral antifungals for which I suggest you to consult a dermatologist.
Avatar n tn I thought it could be nummular dermatitis but the symptoms to that does not match my condition and not to mention it doesn't look that severe. Any clue of what this can be?
Avatar m tn overtime it worsed and the dots and area around them began to become itchy, and then painful. Now i had a nasty case of cradle cap as a baby so the diagnosis of Seborrheic dermatitis seems to fit pretty well. I eventually visited a dermatologist in hopes of curing this problem. or in the very least finding a way to control it. I used an over the counter cortisol steroid before my visit as it became to much to bare. I found this cream helped within a day if not less.
Avatar n tn A seborrheic dermatitis and would respond well to hydrocotisone creme if so. A photodermatitis is a differential and might require sunscreens. Do consult your doctor.
Avatar m tn ) I went to my dermatologist today and she prescribed me Elocom Cream 0.1% for my face and Locoid Lipocream for my back (Pityriasis already has almost faded out). She said it was a "young adult" viral infection :s and believed both my body's and my face's rashes had the same origin.
Avatar n tn I had these white patches on my legs at age 22 but now I am 30 and it has spread to my thighs and arms and dermatologist diagnose it as pityriasis alba after the biopsy. I tried cortisone which makes the skin dry in cold weather and also I don't want to use it alot for possible side effects. Does anyone have the same issue and what has worked for them. I am thinking of doing the PUVA( UV radiation therapy) but not sure if it will help. Thanks for the reply in advance.
