Avatar m tn Hello, It can be due to seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp under the nose or anywhere on face. Topical antifungals and mild steroids are the usual treatment and combination of the two can be used to treat stubborn patches. Avatar m tn Finally, seborrheic dermatitis is a very common problem in persons who do not have HIV and is only somewhat more common in person with HIV. Only a tiny fraction of persons with seborrheic dermatitis have HIV. So, what should you do. That's easy-- go and get tested at your local Health Department. I am confident the result will be negative, proving that you do not have HIV. I hope this comment helps. Take care.

Avatar f tn The reason for my worries is that now I have noticed my skin flaking under my nose in the mustache area. I am really worried it might be Seborrheic Dermatitis or and HIV rash, although there is no discoloration and it could be due to my acne creams? Is there any other reason for this? It could be just dry skin. This will be my last worry question. I am now really worried to get tested knowing that this could be a symptom. I have been looking for a DUO test in town but cannot find one.

Seborrhoeic Dermatitis is believed to be an inflammatory reaction related to the proliferation of normal skin habitant Malassezia – a yeast, which produces toxic substances that infect and irate the skin. The disease is neither contagious nor related with diet but it may be aggravated by other illness like Psychological stress, immune compromised patients, neurological diseases like Parkinsonism and stroke.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have been getting electrolysis on my face and have recently been diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if the Seborrheic dermatitis may have been caused by the damaging of the hair follicles. I have very mild seb derm but it flares up about four days after an electrolysis session on my face. Any help would be appreciated.

Avatar m tn I have dermatitis in the eybrows...It's caused scaly, bumpy skin in the area and also is causing my eyebrow hair to fall out, it's very weak. I was given a Ketoconazole Cream and Shampoo, I was wondering if they serve the save purpose? Do I need to use both? or just one?, because the cream is kinda thick and sticky and when I rub it into my eyebrows it just rips the hair out....So if I used the shampoo would that be enough, or do I need to use both????....
Avatar m tn Hello, I cannot confirm anything without examination but it can be contact dermatitis, hives, sweat dermatitis or heat rash. Please keep the area clean and apply some topical antiseptics. Also wear loose-fitting cotton clothing and use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove. Avoid any kind of cosmetics. Topical zinc oxide cream like Desitin or calamine are very helpful. Application of mild steroid cream like dermacort also helps.
Avatar f tn Hi You might be suffering from scalp (seborrheic) dermatitis or scalp eczema or scalp psoriasis. The exact diagnosis depends on clinical examination. Seborrheic dermatitis presents as dry skin on the scalp, which flakes off (dandruff). The skin on the face, behind the ears, eyelids, nose and chest may also be affected. Symptoms of scalp eczema may include greasy yellowish scales that may turn flake off along intensely itchy and inflamed red scalp.
Avatar n tn Hello, From the symptoms it can be dermatitis skin, seborrheic dermatitis or fibrous papule of the nose. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp. under the nose or anywhere on face. People with seborrheic dermatitis produce too much sebum (the natural skin oil). Later, pityrosporum yeast grows excessively in the sebum, sometime along with bacteria, making the dermatitis more persistent.
Avatar n tn I get a red flaky rash on each side of my nose every winter. It's only in the creases, and it doesn't spread. It's flaky, red, and oily. It only slightly itches, not alot. There are no bumps or swelling, and it goes away around February/March. It doesn't seem to be any type of dermatitis or eczema. Anyone know who this is?

Avatar m tn That you have seborrheic dermatitis does not change that in any way. While seborrheic dermatitis is seen with some regularity on persons with HIV, the vast, vast majority of people with this very common skin condition do not have HIV. You need an HIV test and may need professional assistance in working through your guilt and inappropriate anxiety. I am confident when you get an HIV test it will be negative, PROVING that you do not have HIV.

Avatar f tn My husband has large itchy, flaky skin on his scalp and in his beard and mustache. It flakes in large yellow chunks that tend to be quite thick and if scratched off will often bleed. It is embarassing as he has large yucky flakes falling out all the time. He has tried prescription shampoos which worked for a couple months only. Now he uses a different kind of shampoo and conditioner every time he washes his hair which helps a bit but not much. Also have used different oils, etc.
Avatar n tn For more severe forms topical corticosteroids have been used after washing the area with medicated shampoos. Seborrheic dermatitis may be associated with stress and even changes in weather. Thus, expect this to persist or recur.
3227684 tn?1347373065 Hello, Recently, before my exams, I have developed symptoms that can suggest, according to what I read on the Internet, a seborrheic dermatitis.
Avatar n tn s guaranteed to stop seborrheic dermatitis forever, but treatments can control its signs and symptoms. In case of recurrent seborrheic dermatitis, topical and oral antifungals, immunomodulators such as tacrolimus and pimecrolimus are useful. In addition some lifestyle measures like using antidandruff shampoos daily, avoiding harsh soaps and detergents, wearing cotton clothes and covering the itchy area with a dressing to prevent itching may also help. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn I also hear fermented foods like beer, wine, cheeses, vinegar, mushrooms and olives are developers of itchy skin and can effect dermatitis of the skin.
Avatar f tn I have never had any issues with my skin and I have read that seborrheic dermatitis is strongly related to HIV, i also have red eyes and frequent migraines. When do HIV patients start developing seborrheic dermatitis? What other symptoms are developed with it? When performing my last test alcohol was not completely dry on my finger + the final reading was before the 20 minutes mark set by the manufacturer.
Avatar f tn Hence if your child is school going then it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis. However it is often hereditary and if you have been diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis, then your child carries the risk of having it in future life during adulthood. Moreover it causes redness and inflammation of skin with yellow patches or red, greasy skin covered with flaky white or yellow scales. Hence it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis in your child’s case but confirmation needs to be done.
Avatar n tn if someone has seborrheic dermatitis around his lips and chin, does it means he has HIV, or is seborrheic dermatitis a normal skin condition that affect many people.
