hi, i have a rash that i noticed 2 days ago, it started on my face i htink, but now its on my chest and arms aswel. on my face and neck the bumps are fairly small and a pale. most of the ones on my body are more red. ive notices a bit of dry skin on my hairline on my forehead aswel. its itches a little. any ideas as this is v. embarassing and worrying.
This skin disease commonly affects adolescents and young adults, especially in warm and humid climates and is aggravated by sweating and humidity.
Topical antifungals and mild steroids are the usual treatment and combination of the two can be used to treat stubborn patches. Oral antifungal drugs and immunomodulators such as tacrolimus and pimecrolimus are used in very severe cases. The other possibilities are of eczema, lupus erythematosus or dermatitis.
Hi, welcome to the forum, the probabilities of the itching with rashes are Atopic dermatitis, Contact dermatitis, sweat dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis and drug reaction.
The strongest possibility would be insect bite including chigger bites, mites, flea etc. For itching anti histaminic and medium or low potency topical corticosteroids against prescription are quite effective. Vigorous cleansing with soap and water should be done.

I have been getting electrolysis on my face and have recently been diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if the Seborrheic dermatitis may have been caused by the damaging of the hair follicles. I have very mild seb derm but it flares up about four days after an electrolysis session on my face.
Any help would be appreciated.

It looks like seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrhoeic Dermatitis is believed to be an inflammatory reaction related to the proliferation of normal skin habitant Malassezia – a yeast, which produces toxic substances that infect and irate the skin. The disease is neither contagious nor related with diet but it may be aggravated by other illness like Psychological stress, immune compromised patients, neurological diseases like Parkinsonism and stroke.
I have never had any issues with my skin and I have read that seborrheic dermatitis is strongly related to HIV, i also have red eyes and frequent migraines.
When do HIV patients start developing seborrheic dermatitis?
What other symptoms are developed with it?
When performing my last test alcohol was not completely dry on my finger + the final reading was before the 20 minutes mark set by the manufacturer.
Seborrheic dermatitis would be the primary diagnosis ( petaloid seborrheic dermatitis) with 'pityrisais rosea' coming as close second (Unlikely with such a long duration and scalp involvement)
Guess would respond to ketoconazole cremes. Do consult your doc.
Hence if your child is school going then it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis. However it is often hereditary and if you have been diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis, then your child carries the risk of having it in future life during adulthood.
Moreover it causes redness and inflammation of skin with yellow patches or red, greasy skin covered with flaky white or yellow scales. Hence it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis in your child’s case but confirmation needs to be done.

It was initially described as seborrheic dermatitis with a bit of rosacea, then eczema. After stopping the Antibiotics the rash has come back and now appeared on my chest quite suddenly. The rash on my face however is different from my initial break out and has appeared across my cheek area instead of the naso labial folds which seem to have calmed down now. The dermatologist says it looks like SD BUT is not a typical manifestation of it.
I was told by my dermo that I had Seborrheic dermatitis. It was dry itchy and scaly under my beard, in the nose folds, ears and eyebrows. I was given desonate gel to use for 2 weeks and things calmed down. However now I just have a redness itchy forehead. I put moisture cream o it and it doesnt really help. Is this still donsidered Seborrheic dermatitis? And would the desonate gel still be the right rx to use?

Your daughter has a previous history of eczema and this rash on her scalp may be seborrheic dermatitis. Has she been assessed along this line? Seborrheic dermatitis should be managed by frequent and vigorous shampooing. Are there other similar skin conditions in other parts of the body such as the chest and axilla. Good hygiene is a good prevention for the flare ups due to seborrheic dermatitis.The cause of this condition is unknown.
As for the birthmarks, how would you describe these?
It is now several years later and SD is still with me off and on and I never had it before the encounter and I am experiencing no other symptoms. I have also had anxiety ever since the encounter and have gained 20lbs.
When during the course of HIV infection when does SD usually occur? My dermatologist says my SD is very mild and that it does not seem worriesome but is really starting to stress me out because I never had it before.

This may be contact dermatitis. Do you usually cuddle the cat close to your chest? A seborrheic dermatitis may present with greasy and scaly flakes over the chest. Fungal infection may present with a rash with a well defined border. The rash may be itchy and scaly. In a sweat rash, the rash may present with small vesicles and they may also itchy. They are usually associated with excessive sweating. Do you have any of these conditions?
Differentials for scalp problems may include seborrheic dermatitis , tinea capitis and discoid lupus. These are just differentials and these may need to be excluded especially when this has been present for quite sometime.
I also hear fermented foods like beer, wine, cheeses, vinegar, mushrooms and olives are developers of itchy skin and can effect dermatitis of the skin.
