Science diet vs purina one

Common Questions and Answers about Science diet vs purina one

weight

Avatar f tn science diet isn't recommended as one of the better foods, its alot better than anything bought at a grocery store such as purina. however science diet is still relatively high in carbohydrates(fillers)....you need to check the labels and find the one with the lowest or NO carbs. and the HIGHEST IN PROTIEN. Evo by Innova and Wellness are the only 2 I know of that are completely grain free. there maybe others.
Avatar n tn A rice and chicken mixture (cooked) is almost always okay to feed a dog, and is the least likely to upset his tummy. - Blu PS: you really do get what you pay for when it comes to pet food. I find it odd that your vet would recommend Purina, as normally you can only get the good, specialty foods at veterinarian's offices or high quality pet stores. Some good brands would be Science Diet, Iams, and Blue. I'm sure there are others out there, too.
874521 tn?1424116797 I had been feeding my dog Purina for many years and then all of a sudden, after I purchased a new bag, she was so sick. She is now eating Science Diet and doing much better. I did call Purina and was told that they had not been receiving any complaint phone calls....yea right! I won't be buying Purina again. I intend to call my dog owner friends and also speak to the store manager where I purchased this bag of food.
Avatar m tn You know, there is a possibility, though, that he just doesn't like the Wellness as well as the Purina. I think the only way you are going to be able to figure out what is going on is to weigh him regularly for a while. Of those two foods, I prefer feeding my own dogs Wellness, but I don't think Purina is a horrible food. You can do a lot, lot, worse than Purina One.
176741 tn?1295233989 I have a two year old Australian Sheperd who is a bit plump. What type of food do you feed your dogs? We currently feed her Purina One, but I'm wondering if there is something more nutritionally sound that I should be giving her? Something somewhat economical, as well, would be great! Thanks.
Avatar f tn Truthfully speaking..........dry foods are not good for cats, period. Old misconceptions and stereotypes along with convenience keep driving some vets to the constant yet absurd recommendation of these foods, and they even come up with ridiculous statements that dry foods clean teeth and prevent tartar. I'm not saying vets want our cats to be sick so they can take our money. I'm saying some vets are misinformed, sadly, and others are just dishonest.
4280533 tn?1352139912 Actually I haven't feed my dog with that owfull food from OL Roy. It happens just once.My dog always ate Ceasar dry/wet but started to dislike once an a while. So I decided to buy just once something else. And this what happend.Looks like I will pay a big price for that choice because looks like my westie will be dead. My Westie is 10 years old and has never been sick once. Always very playfull energectic and very very sweet.
Avatar f tn when she started the bloody stool 9/12.. the starting point was science diet wd and the one probiotic...after the food transition her stool was perfect...then 2 months later the morning phlegm/vomit started...she did the throw up again at 4:30 this am..thank goodness we have a yard...poor girl..another day of washing her up the best we could. Last Friday the Vet did the expensive blood work to try to see anything..everything was good..
874521 tn?1424116797 Neither of my cats will eat the Vet formulas of Science Diet or Medical what are other suggestion for a good diet to prevent crystals forming.
Avatar m tn A friend sent me this one. "STUPIDITY SHOULD BE AGAINST THE LAW." ---------------------------------------------------------- I was standing in line at a Wal-Mart checkout counter with two bags of Purina Dog Food for my two dogs, when a woman behind me asked if I had a dog.
Avatar m tn 5 had weighed 103 lbs he was place on a diet he is now 85 with help of Science Diet weight loss food and then maintained with Science Diet W/D. Now the Vet is discontinuing this food and rep. My replacing it with Purina overweight management. My golden is Not impressed, he usually eats anything in front of hm. What do your recommend??
541150 tn?1306033843 Sarah, You know what the problem with Science Diet, or Purina is? I’ll tell you. My cat was eating Science Diet for a long time, and was still bleeding and had chronic diarrhea. My cat wasn’t born with IBD. Science Diet, Purina and other commercial foods made him sick. Science Diet is made by a company called Hills. Hills is the same company which creates and sells prescription foods, like z/d etc.
Avatar m tn thank you so much for the advice. i actually used to buy them the pate but my fiancee who is generally in charge of groceries buys the cat food and doesn't always remember the kind of fancy feast i usually get. i'll remind him to get the pate from now on. i did try to give them the science diet dry food but they wouldn't eat it. should i try some of the other good ones until i find one they like or just keep trying until they eat it? thanks again.
Avatar n tn When I switched him to better nutrition (meaning, no Purina or Science Diet, or Iams in any form) my cat stopped gaining weight so fast. He doesn’t eat all the time. In fact, I have never seen a cat eating twice daily so happy and accepting. I use the BARF diet, but you can try commercial foods with good meat quality. You will see a change in her. So, in your case, your problem can get easily resolved with a simple diet change.
Avatar f tn I have a 7-year-old cat that I adopted when she was about 2. She is spayed and up-to-date on vaccinations, lives mostly indoors but usually goes out for a few hours every day, and is treated monthly with Advantage. About 2 years ago, she started developing a skin issue. She gets scabs around her eyes, under her chin, and sometimes on her back and sides. Sometimes the skin around her anus becomes red and scabby and loses hair.
Avatar n tn Did this just start, not be going on for days? Sounds like a vet visit is in order. If it gets worse it could mean need for emergency medical attention. If this started after changing the type food, don't give him any more. It may be a food allergy, but that doesn't mean he will be able to resolve it on his own. Allergies can be dangerous. Sorry I can't give you an easy to implement cure.

Avatar f tn Our vet in Ohio (we were at Wright-Patterson AFB from 11/91 - 4/96) recommended Science Diet. All 3 kitties picked out the SD nuggets and ate only the Purina (we tried mixing the 2 to gradually introduce the "healthier" alternative). Every cat I've owned has lived 16 years or better, save one who succumbed to anaphylactic shock at the Science Diet vet's clinic at 6 1/2. All "Name Brand" foods are formulated to meet the basic needs of a cat in good health.
959034 tn?1253671476 I used to feed my cats Science Diet, but last year switched to Purina One. I have read the ingredients and they are pretty much identical and since we were watching our budget we switched for the lower cost. Our vet said Purina One was a good alternative. As for wet or dry foods, I was once told by a vet that wet foods were not as good as dry food because they did not help to get rid of the tartar build up on teeth.
1118884 tn?1338592850 This is a huge change. From being able to snack on Purina One.... plus having breakfast and supper FF or Wellness...and the occasional Temptation (I know I know...bad mom!)....to a few kibbles in what used to be his wet food bowl. He was extremely confused...searching around kitchen for food...hopping on chair to see if I'd put his breakfast on table... My questions...does anyone know about this kibble? Could I wet it so he is getting enough fluid?
Avatar f tn My American short hair cat has been a diabetic for two years. Our vet prescribed purina dm wet and dry formulas. Also, Oreo is on novolin 3/4 unit twice a day. He's 14 lbs, at diagnosis 17 lbs. Oreo eats very little wet food, never liked the taste. After doing some research, I discovered that some of the Fancy Feast classics are close to the same percentage of protein (some more) as the purina dm and they are low in carbs.
Avatar f tn This is a great food (we used Science Diet in the past) and is good for all ages, pups to seniors.
Avatar f tn CML has given you good advice.....I just want to add that you plz take her OFF the purina diet, I'm not on my main computer right now so can't check back at some tags, but I do believe some of the purina foods have been recalled. She has to eat, offer her canned foods...even boiled chicken and broth!!! This is very digestible and the extra broth will really help with fluid intake You need to stop the kaopectate.....
652407 tn?1300737199 In other words, I own a cat who is allergic to most foods out here, including Purina and Science Diet. I got his bleeding and loose stools to stop with homemade meals, then raw foods, and now, because he got very ill (not diet related) I had to change his diet so his liver would get back on track. Luckily, this food also works wonders for cats with food allergies, who experience what your cat is going through. The food is Hill’s d/d. Good Luck.
