1798872 tn?1346164585 No, but check both scarlet fever and rheumatic fever on wiki. The immune response initiated by scarlet fever can lead to rheumatic fever. Said immune response destroyed my mother's heart valves because cartilage and the bacteria's cell wall are somewhat similar.

Avatar n tn the disease usually comes along a couple of weeks after someone has popped up with a stubborn strep infection like strep throat or scarlet fever (which is almost unheard of these days w. the scarlet fever). The parts of your body that can be effect is your heart, brain, joints of your body mimicking rheumatoid arthritis and believe it or not your skin. It is considered to be an inflamatory disease in other words causing any of these parts of your body or a portion of them to swell up.

Avatar f tn I had scarlet fever as a child in the mid 70s, I was very sick for a long long time as I was miss diagnosed by 3 or more drs, I haven't had a great time in my life when it comes to fever's, I still have hallucination fever's in my mid 40s, does it effect your long term health?
Avatar m tn Strep throat should be diagnosed as quickly as possible because of the serious complications that can develop if left untreated. These include rheumatic fever, which can damage the heart, and acute nephritis, which can damage the kidneys; both can be fatal. The onset of strep throat is characterised by sudden high fever and a severe sore throat. The bacterium responsible for scarlet fever, a strep-related illness, can also cause pharyngitis.

I sent him to day care for one day as I had to go to office and he came back with minor fever again. We thought his antibiotics is still not finished may be he will be fine. Next morning his legs badly hurt. Then I notice he was starting pink eye.

Avatar n tn The The first week in March I took her to back to the doctor because she continued to run high fevers and vomit every couple days. They then diagnosed her with Scarlet Fever the first part of the first week of March. After being on the antibiotics for 4 days she was still vomiting and running a fever. When we returned to the dr. he fever was 105.6 and she was lethargic. They tested her for the Flue, did a urinalisis, and sent us to the Children's hospital to get additional chest x-rays.
Avatar f tn my question would be could the heart problem be in the genes? we were told my dads heart attack was due to his weakend heart from the scarlet fever. p.s.
Avatar f tn The problem with rheumatic fever is that once you have it, the chances of you getting it again are very high and each time you get the fever, it will further damage the brain. The only treatment available at the moment for rheumatic fever is taking low dosage of antibiotics and invariably you will have to take the drugs for the rest of your life.

Avatar m tn Then there is this rheumatic fever and scarlet fever. My best friend woke up with a rash and high fever and opened all the windows (it was winter). Luckily her other friend lived near by and walked in and said what are doing it is freezing in here. He is a microbiologist too like me and he took her to the hospital. She had scarlet fever from Strep throat. I don't know if your murmur was always there like mine they didn't find it until I was in my 20's and it is a small one.

Diseases which cause high ASO titer are rheumatic fever, scarlet fever, erysipelas, acute post streptococcal glomerulonephritis. In scarlet fever there is fever, abdominal pain, sore throat but there is a classical sandpapery feel rash which helps in its diagnosis. Rheumatic fever is characterized by appearance of a rash, skin nodules, joint pains, fever, heart problem, and involuntary movements .
Avatar n tn Hi, How old is your child? There are differentials for a rash in children who present with fever. At this point, given your child's age and the presentation of the rash, scarlet fever and hand, foot and mouth disease are differentials. Avatar f tn he got another fever again and was told it was a virus. that passed. He again got another fever he was diaginosed with scarlet fever in January. Onced that was "cured" he got fever in February and was told it was a virus and it should pass. It has not passed. I just recently went to the Dr.again and he now has a sinus infection. Avatar n tn I am asking whether I could get this from my partner they show no signs at all but in the last week their hands have started to peel in exactly the same way mine are following the scarlet fever rash. I am worried that this may not be scarlet fever but something more, is there any std that comes across this way. My Doctor has said that is highly unlikely I was infected from my partner following their treatment or that I was reinfected from them following my antibiotics course.
Avatar m tn Start your research there, then be sure to also look into rheumatic fever - which is an after effect of the the strep bacteria that causes scarlet fever and involves various inflammatory and auto-immune conditions. It's sort of like having an allergic reaction to an infection. The body then attacks its own organs as if they were the infection - cross reactivity of antibodies.
Avatar m tn The term Scarlatina may be used interchangeably with Scarlet Fever, though it is commonly used to indicate the less acute form of Scarlet Fever that is often seen since the beginning of the twentieth century.
