1798872 tn?1346164585 No, but check both scarlet fever and rheumatic fever on wiki. The immune response initiated by scarlet fever can lead to rheumatic fever. Said immune response destroyed my mother's heart valves because cartilage and the bacteria's cell wall are somewhat similar.
Avatar n tn the disease usually comes along a couple of weeks after someone has popped up with a stubborn strep infection like strep throat or scarlet fever (which is almost unheard of these days w. the scarlet fever). The parts of your body that can be effect is your heart, brain, joints of your body mimicking rheumatoid arthritis and believe it or not your skin. It is considered to be an inflamatory disease in other words causing any of these parts of your body or a portion of them to swell up.

Avatar f tn Hi Odette72, If you were never treated for Scarlet fever you can get long term complications from it like Rheumatic fever or kidney problems. Also, fever, pneumonia, throat abscesses, ear infections and skin infections. Most people don't get the complications but it can happen and that is why they treat this with antibiotics early on. Maybe you can see an infectious disease doctor. Do you have any problems with your kidneys or heart? If not that hopefully you will be okay.
Avatar f tn We took him to the doctor and he diagnosed Scarlet fever. He priscribed Amoxicillin for 10 days. He started taking it and 3rd day his fever was gone, rash was gone. I sent him to day care for one day as I had to go to office and he came back with minor fever again. We thought his antibiotics is still not finished may be he will be fine. Next morning his legs badly hurt. Then I notice he was starting pink eye.
503418 tn?1231098736 Strep tonsillitis can cause secondary damage to the heart valves (rheumatic fever) and kidneys (glomerulonephritis).
Avatar n tn A rash and a fever could be scarlet fever. How high is the temp?
Avatar m tn The fever persisted as low grade even with medications. (Advil and Tylenol fever reducer) I also have what feels like the worst sore throat ever. Literal burning whenever I swallow. (Only hot liquids help) I went to urgent care that Tuesday morning and they tested me for Covid, Flu and Strep. The wacky doctor that came in claimed "your throat looks fine and all your other vitals are normal." Besides the fact that my temperature was 99.3.

Avatar n tn Sorry, hit enter too fast. Anyway I don't think it can be either scarlet fever or Fifth disease because of the rash and fever. I can see Fifth disease to still be possible, because it may act differently in adults than kids. But I don't think it could be scarlet fever at all. I mean it usually comes it a facial rash yes, but also a high fever, strawberry tongue, and then a full on rash. Also you feel pretty freaking miserable if you got it.
Avatar f tn Rheumatic fever is characterized by appearance of a rash, skin nodules, joint pains, fever, heart problem, and involuntary movements .In acute posts streptococcal glomerulonephritis there is edema, hematuria, and hypertension with or without oliguria .Hypertension may cause severe headache. Get his blood pressure checked. How severe was the concussion? Your child needs reevaluation.
Avatar f tn s stretching it- But my son had peeling itching toes and fingers after scarlet fever which is a dreaded disease but actually is only a step above strep..... Has he had Strep throat? followed by another week or so with a rash/sunburned looking?
Avatar n tn Hi, How old is your child? There are differentials for a rash in children who present with fever. At this point, given your child's age and the presentation of the rash, scarlet fever and hand, foot and mouth disease are differentials. As for scarlet fever, the rash usually develops a day or two after the onset of fever. Prior to his your child complains of pain in swallowing, weakness or easy fatigability, decrease in appetite and for some nausea and vomiting.
Avatar f tn My son (7) has been sick since November with fevers and different illnesses. He started with bronchitis in November which led to pneumonia. Once that was "cured" he got another fever again and was told it was a virus. that passed. He again got another fever he was diaginosed with scarlet fever in January. Onced that was "cured" he got fever in February and was told it was a virus and it should pass. It has not passed. I just recently went to the Dr.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Scarlet Fever two weeks ago and prescribed penicillin for 10 days to clear it. I had a high fever, major sore throat with white puss on, a rash on my body and arms and now peeling hands, arms and feet. I am wondering how I contracted this. I have met a new partner three weeks ago and all we have done is kiss (alot) and mutually masturbate. My Partner though was diagnosed with Tonsillitis in March and was hospitalised for it. They made a full recovery with penicillin.
Avatar f tn I've had a fever for a little over a month now. Usually 99-101.7. I'm tired and I feel soreness in my neck. Blood work is mostly normal but sed rate is high, 67 and my hgb dropped from 13 to 10 over three weeks. Wbc normal. Cxr normal. Been on ceftin for three weeks and started doxycycline yesterday. Any ideas???
Avatar m tn Start your research there, then be sure to also look into rheumatic fever - which is an after effect of the the strep bacteria that causes scarlet fever and involves various inflammatory and auto-immune conditions. It's sort of like having an allergic reaction to an infection. The body then attacks its own organs as if they were the infection - cross reactivity of antibodies.
Avatar m tn The term Scarlatina may be used interchangeably with Scarlet Fever, though it is commonly used to indicate the less acute form of Scarlet Fever that is often seen since the beginning of the twentieth century.
Avatar m tn Hi and very sorry your son has been so ill. I can give you some information and advice. Since he was ASO positive it means they were looking for invasive Streptococcus pyogenes (group A strep). Did he have a rash on his truck at any point? The doctor is saying possible scarlet fever. But, Strep Group A can cause a variety of invasive types of illnessness secondary to the original strep throat. these are rheumatic fever, scarlet fever, endocarditis, glomerulonephritis.

I remember being so sick, nightmares, high fever etc. Could this be one of the culprits along with s many more that could have brought my Fibro/CFS to the surface.? I also had 3 major knee surgeries in 2007, I went through major trauma during all 3 surgeries. Thank you again.
