Avatar m tn Hi i am a 26 yr old male. i have a moderately itchy scalp that gets oily by the end of the day & have occasional acne on the scalp. also i have significant hair loss due to it.Recently, i have noticed more frequent occurrence of acne on my face & rarely on my chest & back. i wash my hair everyday with a mild shampoo to remove the oiliness. it just doesn't seem to help. i somehow feel the itchy scalp, acne & facial acne are related.
Avatar f tn Ive got scalp acne...i dunno if this is due to being pregnant or just my oily scalp.
Avatar f tn has been able to give me a good diagnoses or treatment. One Dr. said scalp acne which seems possible and he gave me an antibiotic for acne which actually worked great only my scalp got reallys dry. Ask your doctor to try you on Minocycline to see if maybe you have bacteria in your skin. I do get to go see another Dr. in a few weeks.....wish me luck!
Avatar m tn I had been prescribed a supplement for the treatment of acne and the salts in that supplement contain myo -inositol, D-Chiron Inositol, Chromium and Vitamin D3 and I have been taking these for 3 months now. I haven't been diagnosed with any PCOS or hormonal imbalance in my reports. Is it safe to take these supplements without any side effects as i read on internet these supplements are used for PCOS treatment mainly.
Avatar n tn In short, I regard the two conditions as separate and unrelated. Acne itself does not affect the scalp. In my experience, many cases of scalp folliculitis are stress-related. Unless a culture actually shows staph germs, I would be skeptical that these bacteria are playing any role here. If a topical antibiotic doesn't help, perhaps a topical steroid might. Ask your dermatologist. Also, be sure never to scratch any of the spots, since that perpetuates the problem. Take care. Dr.
Avatar m tn I have, what I can only describe as acne which is confined to my scalp. I am troubled by lots of spots and pimples, some have yellow puss in, some are just red spots. All are very sore to the touch. The main area of outbreak is a band across the back of my scalp from temple to temple, the sort of area where a hat band would contact your head. The spots are constantly appearing but I have periods of more severs outbreak. I have oily hair which I have to wash every day with baby shampoo.
Avatar n tn Hi there, The common causes of scalp sores are dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, acne and eczema. Since scalp sores are caused by numerous conditions it is difficult to determine the correct treatment without a complete clinical examination. Low Levels of Zinc in the scalp, clogged and bacteria filled hair follicles, very low circulation levels, too high pH level in the delicate scalp skin are few predisposing factors for scalp sores.
Avatar n tn Are these red bumps due to scalp folliculitis? What is it? Is there any treatment? I like to keep my hair short(military). Any advice would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn Hi, Hair loss caused by thinning hair cannot be cured, but several non-surgical treatment options are available. Rogaine brand hair treatment products, containing a minoxidil liquid solution, are available over-the-counter in versions formulated for both men and women. Men who suffer from thinning hair may have suitable results with the prescription medication finasteride, sold under the brand name Propecia.
Avatar m tn one week i will have them on my neck (only a couple - no more than 5), then the next week on my forehead (many), then the next week on my scalp (never had scalp pimples before). As for the "pompholyx) my dermatologist seems to think it might in fact be something else because the treatment he gave me for it (a cream i cannot remember the name) only made it worst. It went away after a couple of days but it is now back. This is starting to concern me.
Avatar f tn For acne you the severity and extent of your acne has to be considered here. Acne occurs when the pores of the skin become clogged with oil, dead skin cells, and/or bacteria. Apart from hereditary factors which may cause hyperactive sebaceous glands, certain diets (high in refined sugars and processed foods) and hormonal changes are associated with outbreaks of acne lesions. You may try using OTC bactericidal products containing benzoyl peroxide in mild to moderate acne.
Avatar m tn The back of my neck in my hair line has started breaking out in the past 2 days. I also am getting lots of acne on my face, I mean I have always had some acne but not like this.
Avatar n tn Hello, These bumps can be due to cysts or acne keloidalis nuchae. Acne keloidalis nuchae occurs when hairs on the back of the head and neck grow into the skin, become inflamed, and cause scar tissue. Treatment of AKN includes suppression of the inflammation with antibiotics and steroid gels or intralesional steroid injections. So apply antibiotic cream like Neosporin or bactroban. If the symptoms persist then oral antibiotics and steroids may be needed.
Avatar n tn t know what is happening. I have an acne history and had gone for isotretinon treatment and some oral antibiotic creams. This is not just painful but also scary.

Avatar f tn These sores can be caused by viral, bacterial or fungal infections. Acne and clogged hair shafts can cause scalp sores, too. Cysts on the scalp are another cause of scalp sores. In folliculitis there is inflammation of one or several hair follicles on the skin causing red, bumpy and pimple-like lumps.Tinea capitis causes round, red, scaly bumps on the scalp's surface.
Avatar m tn I started developing very bad sclap acne in the winter 3 years ago. I had moderately long hair and it would continuously itch with my scalp being mostly red and acne in various places. I tried many shampoos to ease the itching and redness Nioxin, Head and Shoulders,Selsun Blue, Nizoral, Neutrogena T-Gel Extra Strength, non helped. I noticed when my hair was short it helped the redness and acne go away. I went to a dermatologist and he said its just stress.
Avatar m tn Hello, I cannot confirm anything without examination, but it can be due to Acne keloidalis nuchae. Treatment of AKN includes suppression of the inflammation with antibiotics and steroid gels or intralesional steroid injections. So apply antibiotic cream like Neosporin or bactroban. If the symptoms persist then oral antibiotics and steroids may be needed.Pls consult a dermatologist in that case. Avatar m tn After two years of moderate to severe cystic acne (but a lifetime of mild acne punctuated by spurts of cystic acne), I have noticed two things-While I'm in my late 30's, "hormonal" acne treatments etc. DON'T WORK and powerful anitbiotics work FAST & best. My most recent expereinces: using a sulfa based drug for non-skin infections has almost obliterated cystic acne in 4, yes 4 days!!!!!!
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with eczema, alopecia (I lost a spot about the size of a 50cent piece on top of my head), got acne on forehead, which would get really oily, and had to use pro active. The acne went away and now its the smelly scalp! Its like the oil went from my face to the top of my head. Its so weird. I feel like no one will listen. Who knows their bodies better than anyone...you!
Avatar f tn I've been noticing a lot more acne all over my neck, but mainly the front (super visble) and right around my hairline on the back. Also been getting a lot of weird, random "scabs" all over my scalp. Never had these problems before pregnancy. I know acne is normal, but i haven't gotten any on my face. Is any of this normal? More concerned about the "scabs", because i dont scratch my head much, but when i do, i find these. Any advice is welcome. Thanks!
Avatar m tn OK, so I am having major scalp issues, and I am really freaking out here.... The last few days my scalp has gotten really bad on the part right above my neck. It is really bothering me, and i need to find a solution. I attached some pics hoping that someone might recognize what I have and recommend a method of treatment. Here is a little background: -I started shaving around june/july of 09 -I never had a problem in this area until maybe november of last year...
Avatar m tn Acne and dry scalp are not associated with any std, including HIV. If you are concerned about HIV, get a test, but nothing you have suggests HIV.
