Scalp acne medication

Common Questions and Answers about Scalp acne medication

acne

Hi again, Just in case the "scalp acne" you mentrioned might be seborrheic dermatitis, I am sending you a private message with information about that condition.
There is a sandy-grainy like build up on my scalp This is also accompanied by an itch. Even after I wash my hair, the grainy like build up is still there. It is NOT flaky what so ever. My hair has also started to fall out and at the end of my hair, a white little grain is at the end. Hair will not stop falling out. I have gotten blood tests at a dermatology office and everything was normal. I also have tried about very type of zinc pyrithione shampoo, at the highest concentrations.
Has anyone ever had intense itching and flaking of the scalp when TSH levels are high? Does this usually go away once TSH is brought down? Thank you.
Recently(past month) acne has started coming back but on my scalp. My scalp feels very oily all of a sudden and I'm getting acne bad in the places where my hair has thinned. Mostly in the temples and it's progressing to the top off my head it appears on the front part of my head. First of all will the hair I lost from the accutane grow back? If so when? 6 month...a year??? My doctor told me to wait a year. Why am I still losing hair and why do I have acne on my head now?
I currently go to a dermatologist every 3 months for follow-ups (mostly for acne, but my scalp as well), but have received at least 3 other opinions. First doctor switched me to minocycline & Re-10 Wash (containing sodium sulfacetamide) which did no good. Second doctor took a biopsy of one of my lesions revealing folliculitis. He placed me back on Bactrim and Clindagel for topical use. He instructed me to use regular Head and Shoulders as well as Pantene Pro V.
I don't think that the inflammation is caused by Accutane, since I rarely if ever see it in my Accutane patients, and scalp inflammation is common on its own. Second, even people with severe scalp psoriasis and similar conditions don't lose their hair permanently from it. Third, I remain skeptical of the Accutane-hair loss connection; it must be awfully uncommon if I've never seen a case in 23 years. Remember that people who post on the internet like to highlight what's alarming....
If it wasn't for the real pain of these lesions, I couldn't care less about pulling out the hair inside the lesions. When I do go into remission and my scalp is asymptomatic, I NEVER touch my scalp and couldn't care less about hair pulling. I NEVER said my follicules were infected, but the big, unanswered question is still what causes these very real and painful lesions? By the way, two of my dermatologists including Dr.
After doing some research, I believe it is an over production and build up of sebum on the scalp. I have had acne problems, have rosacea, and my skin and hair is very oily. I found balancing shampoos on line that are supposed to prevent sebum build up. Aveda is one of them, but I haven't tried it. Sebum: substance with an oily consistency produced by the sebaceous glands. It lubricates hair, is an antifungal/antibacterial, and imparts waterproofing properties to the skin.
I have problem with my scalp, it started a 4 months ago. I have acne all over my scalp, maybe around 5 to 6 of them at any time. Its itchy, red skin, inflammation around the area for a few days until i apply ketoconozole cream. I hav tried taking kotoconazole tablet (400mg /day) and fluconozole on a weekly basis. I try going to a hot spring (natural) which believe to have to cure. so far Its getting better but i still feel something on my scalp, which is not normal. 1.
Like I said, I went to bed great and woke up with the severe scalp pain. Is there any hope for me? I want to take an oral medication for the seb derm, but no doctor wants to prescribe it to me. I read about Itroconazole working for seb derm. Any suggestions on how to treat this? I appreciate your help and thank you again in advance for any advice you can offer me!
I suffers from body-acne since 4 year. Those acne appears on the back, shoulders, face, and chest I had blood test few days ago.Everything was normal (Haemogobin,Neutrophils,Lymphocytes.Monocytes,Total Leucocyte count and Basophill) but eosinophils vaule was litlle higher 9% than normal vaule(1-6 % normal).I search on web and found it may cause allergic effects. If this increment in Eosinophils value is responsible for Body acne Is this due to the oily food i eat ?
HAd a history of acne as a teenager and was on doxycyline for years and minocycline, even septrin, but ended up on accutane which cleared the acne. Nowadays I don't have facial acne anymore just the folliculutis on scalp only. It's really itchy, uncomfortable and sore when it's bad but I know how to control it.
Shoulder classic clean shampoo for oily scalp, Rogaine for hair loss, ketoconazole shampoo 2% for oily scalp, Clindamycin phosphate gel USP 1% for acne, and corticosteroids (such as fluocinolone acetonide) to reduce inflammation. Okay, first of all, Head & shoulder really does causes my hair to fall off more, so I kind of stop using it after the first month!
I suffered from occasional face acne, and severe back, legs, buttocks, arms and scalp acne in which they often leave black marks when they are gone.my face is also reddish and have certain bumps after sun exposure.i noticed that most of my blackheads spot are also my hair spot.what are my conditions and how can i treat them ?
I mentioned the medication as I think it could be the underlining cause of my following scalp problem? For, I want to say the last 8 to 10 weeks I have been getting lots of small white headed acne type bumps all over covering everywhere on my scalp. I'm not sure if it is acne or if it could be some type of milia? It only happens where there is hair, nothing around the scalp like on the neck, which makes me think it may be a buildup of something and not typical bacteria formed acne?
A few years after my accident I went to see my dermatoligist. I had acne at the basse of my scalp and was very red. He said I had a strawberry mark or wine stain (tache de vin in french..don<t know how to translate this) at the bottom of my scalp. But I was never born with any. Soon after my accident I started having rasacea on my face and red ithcy eyes. Neck stifness and pain and migraines, headaches at least 3 times a week began right after my accident.
I have had dandruff/dry scalp problems in the past but nothing major. I also have a lil bit of acne trouble, mostly on the back and some exzema on my arms and thighs for most of my life if that makes a difference. i just cant take it anymore nothing seems to be helping.
Hey Andrea! 1. Yes roaccutane is one of the best and commonly used medication for cystic acne. 2. X5 hair laser may help with hair regrowth in alopecia but may not be as effective with symptoms of thinning of hair shaft. 3. Yes you could use the X5 laser and isotretinoin in the same time period, though scalp irritation may occur with isotretinoin. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
I have been trying to use the tretinoin cream my dermatologist rxed for my acne, but can't seem to get over the hump. I've read that it can make things worse before they get better, and I don't know about the getting better part, but I definitely know about the getting worse. I just don't have the tenacity to hang in there with it long enough to get better! Every time it makes my acne worse, I chicken out and stop using it. It's hard to believe that something so ... viscous? ...
They have given me two options for medication which I have to decide on before I go back to them. The two options they have given me are 1-Lamotrigine and 2-Quetiapine. I would love to hear from anyone who is on either of these and see would you recommend either of them an is there any side effects taking them?
it phased out and now my itchy scalp condition is a combination of Rosacea acne bumps and some sort of seborrhea. Forget the medical jargon now. I was given a steroid shampoo after 3 yrs of suffering with the itching...not so much bumps, and finally have relief. Face bumps past adolescence: usually a form of Rosacea. There are medications oral and topical to fight the condition which is inherited. Skin problems that go on and on without relief are depressing.
hi, i had the grainy like things on my scalp too... with terrible acne... you might want to look into something called the demodex mite... they live on the face/head... come out at night...and thrive in people that have weakened immune systems...(i was on antibiotics for months for lyme disease...it wreaked havoc on mine) it seems tea tree oil helps... my doctor seems to think i'm crazy... so i'm looking for a new one... I hope this helps...
Azelex is a popular topical medication for treating mild-to-moderate inflammatory acne vulgaris, a common skin disorder found mostly in teenagers. One of the popular misconceptions about acne is that it is a skin disorder that can affect only teenagers, while adults are hardly at risk. Nothing however, could be further from the truth ñ for acne can make an unwanted appearance even in adults at any stage of their life.
So, for the crown of my scalp to suddenly become oily really worried me. I am on heart medication and was looking to see if that might be the cause. I've used Nice and Easy color too but I've used it for years. This started about 2 months ago. I did just like everyone else...washed all my hairstyling tools...changed shampoo...made sure all the conditioner was rinsed out...all to no avail. I hope someone can come up with some kind of answer or at least a solution to this problem.
Three days ago I started feeling like whatever this was is now in my skin (I'm certain of it), It's under the skin on my face, my scalp, my back, my toes, and my feet. I can feel it crawling in and out of my anus at times also. Went to the dermatoligist today and of couse he says it's my imagination, some people get it. He's subscribed me some DEXEPIN for depression. :( Funny thing is I'm not depressed, my life was quite good until this bug showed up.
I keep my scalp clean as this can cause facial acne as well. I don't use any oil products on my scalp either. My hair and skin are very healthy. Mary Kay is really the only product that has worked on my African American skin.
My first 3 months of BC, everything going well then suddenly I had a breakout following my 30 birthday which I put down to celebrating loads over the week, but those spots never went away and my skin just gradually got worse, my GP advised to get tested for PCOs which was all negative, she then said just go back on the pill, as my skin was awful, I kept getting these hard painful lumps that wouldnt go away, somethhimes I would have a itch on my face and I would rub gentlely the next thing anoth
My skin *seems* to be clearing, but not sure if it's because of the new acne medication I bought for on spot treatment. I still have a very pale, kind of sickly tone to my skin though which is very depressing. It is also uneven in tone :(... My hair seems to be continuously thinning unfortunately, although I'm not shedding like crazy. This is really taking a toll on my appearance and it makes me depressed when I look in the mirror. I have no idea what else I can do to help my hair right now..
This isn't a question... just a possible solution to acne that I think EVERY acne sufferer should at least try. The answer? Vitamin D. I know, I honestly can't believe something so simple as the "skin vitamin" could possibly cure my acne. I have been taking about 1000 IU a day, every day for the past month now. Both with my breakfast and with my supper... and ACNE IS GONE!!!! I am 25 years old and have had acne since I was 14... and for once no more acne!
I have been having significant hair loss (similar to male pattern baldness), seborrhea dermatitis (of the scalp) and acne for about the last 8 months or so. I have been to a dermatologist and an internist on several occasions regarding this problem - without success. No typical medication for acne or seborrhic dermatitis seems to work. I may have polycystic ovarian syndrome, which is still being worked up by my ob/gyn. I have 3 mod-large cysts on my right ovary.
