Salmeterol side effect

Common Questions and Answers about Salmeterol side effect

serevent

Avatar n tn I have lost the ability to smell or taste anything. Do you think that could be a side effect of the Advair?
Avatar m tn Recently I had to go to the Hospital because the VENTILAN aerosol was not producing any effect. There they gave my a prescription for an asthma control medicine named here in Portugal MAIZAR (50µg Salmeterol/250µg Fluticasona Propionate) which I'm taking twice a day with excellent results. I believe this medicine is also known as ADVAIR in other countries.
Avatar f tn While it is known that high doses, much higher than Advair™ Diskus® (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Powder 500/50, of long-acting bronchodilator medicines, such as the Serevent® (salmeterol) in Advair™ Diskus® (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Powder, can cause abnormal heart rhythms, this is rare.
Avatar n tn I am wary of inhaled steroids because I have had serious side effect that were worse than the ailment it was supposed to treat. So if you are prescribed something like that, ask if there are alternatives. The FDA sent out warning a year ago about inhaled steroids. There are natural anti-inflammatories that can help. I take mullein (in a liquid form), vitamin B5 and vitamin C. Marshmallow is also good. Some Chinese herbs are excellent, but you have to have a doctor get them for you.
757137 tn?1347196453 Not only can it worsen asthma, but the side effects can be fatal. Other forms of treatment should be sought and, if the product is used at all, it should be for short periods of time. Advair affected my adrenals, harmed my eyes, and worsened my asthma. It caused such serious choking that I feared it would kill me. I stopped taking it last August and am doing fine on natural anti-inflammatories. This is no thanks to my pulmonologist. I had to work out my treatment for myself.
1425157 tn?1311651679 thanks guys ya i dont need any extra heart---irritation--i would rather cough constantly i do have a flovent inhaler that didnt seem to make my heart pound but it also didnt seem to help my cough/tightness overly much plus it made me so hoarse and thick with phglem i could barely talk!!!!!
Avatar n tn Advair™ Diskus® (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Powder contains 2 medicines. The inhaled steroid Flovent® (fluticasone propionate) has a half life of around 5 hours, so it would be totally out of your system in a few days. The inhaled long-acting bronchodilator Serevent® (salmeterol) has a similar half life, so it would be totally out of your system after 5 days. When steroid side effects occur, they may linger for weeks or even months after the medicine has been stopped.
Avatar n tn Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) is generally well tolerated by most people with asthma but more than a few side effects have been reported, especially with the dose that contains the highest amount of fluticasone. If you can do OK with your asthma, you are wise not to take it. But, if you need it to control your asthma you should ask your doctor for the dose that has the lowest amount of fluticasone.
Avatar n tn You are correct in wanting to wait until you have achieved optimum benefit from the Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Aerosol, before any consideration of oxygen use. The Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Aerosol may raise your saturation, to a degree that will make oxygen use unnecessary.
Avatar f tn Cortisol levels were very high. I was treated for it with only moderate success. But there was a more serious side effect that I was not aware of. For the last two years my lung health was declining seriously and I honestly did not think I would make it through the coming winter. I assumed that the COPD was progressing at an alarming rate. I developed unrelenting bronchitis and would have coughing fits as a regular thing and, most recently, choking.
Avatar m tn I take Advair, (Fluticasone propionate / Salmeterol) once a daily inhaled. My asthma is not controlled without Advair, but is stable with one dose daily. I would like to take Harmine alkaloids (Harmine, Harmaline), but I'm not sure if Salmeterol is safe to take with Harmine alkaloids as they are MAOI (reversible MAOI however) are they safe to combine? Thank you!
Avatar f tn I was on Advair for a long time myself - I got off after reading about side effect of "can cause sudden death". It does weaken the lung/bronchi and it is possible after such extensive use, hypersensitivity ensued. It took me a while to get into some normalcy. I felt absolutely terrible and hard to breath when I first stopped. Perhaps there is also a reaction to the sulfate family happening in your body. Nebulizer solutions often use sulfate as a preservative.
1679876 tn?1304743615 I have been given Advair to take for my copd, but one side effect is fast and irregular heart beat, chest pain and increased BP----I take Metoprolol succ er for my PSVT--- -Will the Advair Diskus work against my metoprolol meds? I am alllergic to Penasylin, tetrocycoline, decadron, dyphahidromine, and benedril. My other meds I take are: zolof, welbrutrin, seroquel xr, gabapentine, tizanidine hcl and pravastatin sodium----will there be any adverse reactions to any of these meds?
Avatar f tn who know..it all might be the side effect.......i get sweats even when i am just sitting no activity. I am hoping after the stress echo test I will have some explanation of my symptoms. Does anyone has experience with this Advair for long term use.
Avatar m tn 5 mcg/actuation, and Wixela (fluticasone propionate salmeterol inhalation powder) for my COPD. Is there a sequence I should be taking these meds in? Is there a time frame I should use between the two meds?
Avatar n tn However using a long-term control medicine, like Advair, Diskus (fluticasone/salmeterol), should help clear it away quicker. Sometimes this test is repeated after he has used a rescue inhaler like albuterol. When there is a 20% increase the test is positive for asthma. Advair Diskus (fluticasone/salmeterol) and albuterol as needed are recommended for the treatment for asthma.
Avatar f tn To my knowledge Advair® (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) has not been linked to strokes. Have you heard anything about this in the lay press?
Avatar n tn Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) is one and Serevent® Inhalation Aerosol (salmeterol xinafoate) another. Each is a bronchodilator and capable of giving good relief of shortness of breath.
Avatar n tn If you have cough (ASTHMA) and are taking medicines that contain asthalin or terbutaline then the palpitations can be a side effect of the drugs. Chemicals like adrenaline, alcohol, caffeine, cocaine, amphetamines, and other drugs all cause palpitations. Disease (such as hyperthyroidism and pheochromocytoma) or mitral stenosis, panic disorder can be the cause. Palpitations may be associated with heart problems, anemias and low blood pressure.
757137 tn?1347196453 Because of serious side of effects of both Advair and an inhaled steroid that did not contain salmeterol, I now rely solely on a nebulizer and an antihistamine. I take supplements to reduce inflammation and thin mucus. I have moderate COPD and am doing fairly well, but would benefit from a longer-lasting medication. Any suggestions? Avatar f tn Is there any side effects if you are on methodone and have Hepatitis C???
Avatar m tn I'm wondering if any one has ever experienced the side effect of body twitches when they started taking medication? I don't mean small twitches, it feels like my muscle is jerking it's scary. Alot of you are telling me to ask my psychiatrist about any questions, but she works in the emerg at the hospital. I am only seeing her short-term and she doesn't take calls.
Avatar f tn Been diagnosed with non allergic rhinitis, feline dander, housedust etc allergies. Also diagnosed with excercise induced asthma in the 90's. About a month ago wheezing. Doctor has me on 50mcg fluticasone/salmeterol powder am and pm,plus albuterol every 4 hrs. I haven't been using rescue every 4 hrs. When I talk I start coughing and choking and have to spit. What is going on with treatment?
Avatar n tn You and he/she will have to resort to other preparations, to include a different inhaled steroid, such as Flovent® HFA Inhalation Aerosol (fluticasone propionate), either alone or in combination with a long-acting bronchodilator, like Serevent® Inhalation Aerosol (salmeterol xinafoate) or Foradil® Aerolizer™ (formoterol fumarate inhalation powder), such a combination being either Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Aerosol or Symbicort® (budesonide/formoterol fumarat
Avatar f tn Advair is a combination of the same corticosteroid in Flovent (fluticasone) and a bronchodilator called salmeterol. Bronchodilators relax the muscles around the airways to relieve asthma symptoms like wheezing and coughing. So, Flovent is the steroid fluticasone. Advair is a combination salmeterol/fluticasone. Let us know how you are doing and what your doctor is telling you.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am a 26 year old female who never smoked and has no history of asthma in the family. For the past 9 months, I've been experiencing a mild shortness of breath, sometimes accompanied by a sharp (and sometimes dull) pain on the left side of my chest just above the breast. I've noticed the sharp pains from time to time when I inhale deeply or when I exhale fast and hard. I don't wheeze or cough like many asthmatics do.
