Common Questions and Answers about Salmeterol inhaler

serevent

Avatar m tn Hello, I have asthma since I'm 4 years old. Curiously enough only in Portugal. Now I'm 40 years old. In Autumn and Winter it increases and in Spring and Summer it tends to slow down or disappear for a while. Recently I had to go to the Hospital because the VENTILAN aerosol was not producing any effect.
Avatar n tn I am using combivent(4x a day ) and serevent diskus 50mcg 2x for my moderate severe copd, I have just started Flovent 50mcg inhaler. Is this OK or should I cutdown on the combivent ?
746512 tn?1388807580 I'd say it's the increased triggers. Advair can definitely be pricey. Might look into other long-acting beta agonists. Serevent is the LABA that is in Advair (Formoterol is available as Foradil. Salmeterol is the LABA in Advair). It's basically Flovent and Serevent in one Discus or inhaler. Symbicort is another combination steroid/LABA (Pulmicort + Formoterol). I don't know if any combination of those options would be better from a price perspective.
Avatar m tn Ventolin or salbutamol is a rescue inhaler, that means you take this when you have an episode of Asthma. There are reliever inhalers which work for up to 12 hours after taking each dose. They include salmeterol (brand name Serevent) and formoterol (brand name Atimos). Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. Regards.
Avatar n tn However using a long-term control medicine, like Advair, Diskus (fluticasone/salmeterol), should help clear it away quicker. Sometimes this test is repeated after he has used a rescue inhaler like albuterol. When there is a 20% increase the test is positive for asthma. Advair Diskus (fluticasone/salmeterol) and albuterol as needed are recommended for the treatment for asthma.
Avatar n tn m now on advair (one week= 115 ) and doing okay - except the only rescue inhaler i can tolerate is primotene mist. just took an oximeter test - came out 86-87. i think it's too soon to go on oxygen, until we see if advair works. but i worry about the advair too. will i ever get better and be able to switch to lower advair dose? my MD says i have "moderate" COPD....does it get better, or what?
Avatar n tn It sounds like you probably need a maintenance inhaler now. If it just a flare, an inhaled steroid could clear you right up and feeling like your self in no time. Feel better. God bless.
Avatar f tn I was then given Advair Diskus 250/50, after 2 1/2 months called the doctor because of using emergency inhaler Albuterol Sulfate 90mgc min 10 times a day. Albuterol created a vocal cord problem. Now been put on Flovent Diskus 100mgc and continue the Albuterol. Question, do the Flovent and Advair have the fluticasone propionate ingredient in common? Tonight will be my 1st use of the Flovent. Concerned that I may have a mitral valve problem plus the emphysema.
Avatar f tn Asthma inhaler Advair has ingredient called Salmeterol which makes heart go faster. I have taken that inhaler for a year every day. who know..it all might be the side effect.......i get sweats even when i am just sitting no activity. I am hoping after the stress echo test I will have some explanation of my symptoms. Does anyone has experience with this Advair for long term use.
1679876 tn?1304743615 My son has severe asthma and uses a separate steroid inhaler (Flovent) and uses his ventolin inhaler for emergencies.
757137 tn?1347196453 Because of serious side of effects of both Advair and an inhaled steroid that did not contain salmeterol, I now rely solely on a nebulizer and an antihistamine. I take supplements to reduce inflammation and thin mucus. I have moderate COPD and am doing fairly well, but would benefit from a longer-lasting medication. Any suggestions? Avatar m tn I take Advair, (Fluticasone propionate / Salmeterol) once a daily inhaled. My asthma is not controlled without Advair, but is stable with one dose daily. I would like to take Harmine alkaloids (Harmine, Harmaline), but I'm not sure if Salmeterol is safe to take with Harmine alkaloids as they are MAOI (reversible MAOI however) are they safe to combine? Thank you!
Avatar f tn hiya im 54 years old from the uk im over the menopause i think haha ive been a non smoker now for 14 months but i have been quite breathless and was borderline c o p d this was in january i have been taking my in haler but i seem to have got worse even bathing is a effort so i returned back to doctors and was given another inhaler that didnt seem to make much difference out of the blue i mentioned to the doctor that i thought it was more upper in my throat area that i was short of breath so ive
Avatar n tn Advair™ Diskus® (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Powder contains 2 medicines. The inhaled steroid Flovent® (fluticasone propionate) has a half life of around 5 hours, so it would be totally out of your system in a few days. The inhaled long-acting bronchodilator Serevent® (salmeterol) has a similar half life, so it would be totally out of your system after 5 days. When steroid side effects occur, they may linger for weeks or even months after the medicine has been stopped.
Avatar n tn thanks for the info. Just so you know, I'm taking 'Singulair' (10mg of montelukast sodium daily) for allergies. For preventative purposes, my doctor prescribed me to take a puff of a 'Diskus' inhaler a day (50 mcg salmeterol, 250 mcg fluticasone). Also I take 500 mg Vitamin C supplements every morning. Those are the only meds I take routinely.
Avatar f tn While it is known that high doses, much higher than Advair™ Diskus® (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Powder 500/50, of long-acting bronchodilator medicines, such as the Serevent® (salmeterol) in Advair™ Diskus® (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Powder, can cause abnormal heart rhythms, this is rare.
Avatar n tn It is also possible that some of the symptoms you describe, such as headache, shakes, racing heart, were caused by the other ingredient in Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) called Serevent® (salmeterol). Many of the symptoms you describe occur with panic attacks and are relieved by leading a healthy life style. If that alone doesn't control the panic attacks, there is good, effective medicine for treatment of panic and you should request it from your doctor.
Avatar f tn I was using something called Combivent which made me cough every time I sprayed. My pulmonologist asked if I were using a "spacer" attached to the inhaler. Of course, neither she nor the pharmacy had offered one to me. Instead, I switched to QVAR which is much more effective and lasts longer than 4 or 6 hours. The down side is that QVAR is a steroid; however, I have yet to notice any negative side effects after about 3 years of use.
Avatar m tn 5 mcg/actuation, and Wixela (fluticasone propionate salmeterol inhalation powder) for my COPD. Is there a sequence I should be taking these meds in? Is there a time frame I should use between the two meds?
Avatar f tn To my knowledge Advair® (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) has not been linked to strokes. Have you heard anything about this in the lay press?
Avatar n tn Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) is one and Serevent® Inhalation Aerosol (salmeterol xinafoate) another. Each is a bronchodilator and capable of giving good relief of shortness of breath.
Avatar f tn Been diagnosed with non allergic rhinitis, feline dander, housedust etc allergies. Also diagnosed with excercise induced asthma in the 90's. About a month ago wheezing. Doctor has me on 50mcg fluticasone/salmeterol powder am and pm,plus albuterol every 4 hrs. I haven't been using rescue every 4 hrs. When I talk I start coughing and choking and have to spit. What is going on with treatment?
Avatar n tn You and he/she will have to resort to other preparations, to include a different inhaled steroid, such as Flovent® HFA Inhalation Aerosol (fluticasone propionate), either alone or in combination with a long-acting bronchodilator, like Serevent® Inhalation Aerosol (salmeterol xinafoate) or Foradil® Aerolizer™ (formoterol fumarate inhalation powder), such a combination being either Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Aerosol or Symbicort® (budesonide/formoterol fumarat
Avatar n tn OK, First post on forum. Diabetes for 7 years. Type 2 progressed to full insulin shortly. runs in the family. Went to a new doctor today and was getting examined and he told me a new treatment was out. He said about an inhaler. Well I know about insulin inhalers but didn't know if they were used much. So I asked them if this was what he was talking about and he said no. He said the medicine reacted with your pancreas.
