Avatar m tn But the thing is, I was making some research in Internet and it seems that Salmeterol can increase in a long term use the Asthma symptoms even causing death in some extreme cases. Another disadvantage of the mix Salmeterol/Fluticasona was the risk of Osteoporosis and blood pressure increasing.
Avatar m tn I take Advair, (Fluticasone propionate / Salmeterol) once a daily inhaled. My asthma is not controlled without Advair, but is stable with one dose daily. I would like to take Harmine alkaloids (Harmine, Harmaline), but I'm not sure if Salmeterol is safe to take with Harmine alkaloids as they are MAOI (reversible MAOI however) are they safe to combine? Thank you!
Avatar n tn Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) is generally well tolerated by most people with asthma but more than a few side effects have been reported, especially with the dose that contains the highest amount of fluticasone. If you can do OK with your asthma, you are wise not to take it. But, if you need it to control your asthma you should ask your doctor for the dose that has the lowest amount of fluticasone.
757137 tn?1347196453 Not only can it worsen asthma, but the side effects can be fatal. Other forms of treatment should be sought and, if the product is used at all, it should be for short periods of time. Advair affected my adrenals, harmed my eyes, and worsened my asthma. It caused such serious choking that I feared it would kill me. I stopped taking it last August and am doing fine on natural anti-inflammatories. This is no thanks to my pulmonologist. I had to work out my treatment for myself.
Avatar n tn Sometimes this test is repeated after he has used a rescue inhaler like albuterol. When there is a 20% increase the test is positive for asthma. Advair Diskus (fluticasone/salmeterol) and albuterol as needed are recommended for the treatment for asthma. While exercise does not increase lung capacity, it does improve the efficiency of the lung to deliver oxygen. There is less demand with a regular exercise program. Exercise may also make your husband feel better.
Avatar n tn The “near fatal reaction” may have had a component of airway inflammation, that served to “tip-off” your asthma, much as can happen with a severe respiratory infection, such as bronchitis, resulting in what is called bronchial hyperreactivity, a feature of asthma. What you have experienced may or may not be asthma in the conventional sense but be more akin to a condition called reactive airways dysfunction syndrome (RADS). This latter may take weeks, months or longer to eventually subside.
Avatar m tn Hi, due to asthma sometimes you may swallow air, referred to as aerophagia. This can cause bloating of stomach and consequent breathlessness. Check with your doctor for adequate control of asthma. Ventolin or salbutamol is a rescue inhaler, that means you take this when you have an episode of Asthma. There are reliever inhalers which work for up to 12 hours after taking each dose. They include salmeterol (brand name Serevent) and formoterol (brand name Atimos).
Avatar f tn Been diagnosed with non allergic rhinitis, feline dander, housedust etc allergies. Also diagnosed with excercise induced asthma in the 90's. About a month ago wheezing. Doctor has me on 50mcg fluticasone/salmeterol powder am and pm,plus albuterol every 4 hrs. I haven't been using rescue every 4 hrs. When I talk I start coughing and choking and have to spit. What is going on with treatment?
Avatar n tn i have had asthma since i was born, and it was not a problem for me until i was 8 years old. i couldnt run and when i did, my left arm would turn numb and i would feel my chest violently gasping for air, then i faint. i didnt run since then, and i lived my teenage and early adulthood fine, didnt need my inhalers and when i felt i did need them i would use them once or twice... i have 3 children, and only with my first pregnancy i was admitted to hospital unable to breath.
746512 tn?1388807580 I'm having a lot of trouble lately with my asthma control now that I've started classes again. I seem to be ultra sensitive now (more than I was last year on campus) of cigarette smoke. I have to walk outside to get to some of classes and if I pass more than one person smoking or get too many wifts in my face, my chest really tightens up and I'm forced to use my rescue inhaler. The problem is this has been an almost daily occurence and I hate taking ventolin that regularly.
Avatar f tn Flovent is a corticosteroid used to reduce inflammation in the airways to help control asthma. Advair is a combination of the same corticosteroid in Flovent (fluticasone) and a bronchodilator called salmeterol. Bronchodilators relax the muscles around the airways to relieve asthma symptoms like wheezing and coughing. So, Flovent is the steroid fluticasone. Advair is a combination salmeterol/fluticasone. Let us know how you are doing and what your doctor is telling you.
1425157 tn?1311651679 Hi guys-- me again-- :)I recently developed a mild asthma thing from a bad cold and doc put me on advair but sometimes when i take it i feel my heart beating really forcefully a little fast and feel anxious--i read advair can cause this but i dunno---anyone else know anything about this???
Avatar f tn This can take on different symptoms including but not limited asthma. You should talk to your doctor to determine if you have asthma. Treating and controling your asthma (if you have it) reduces overall reactivity so they shouldn't bother you as much. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar m tn I used to smoke a lot of marijuana to help cope with my social anxiety issues but the problem is I was born with asthma. This obviously did not make for a good combination. Even though I could barely breathe at times I still smoked the marijuana until it got so bad I had to rush to the University clinic and get hooked up to the breathing machines various times. Finally, I decided to stop and ever since I stopped I have been constantly hacking....I mean all day hacking....
757137 tn?1347196453 Because of serious side of effects of both Advair and an inhaled steroid that did not contain salmeterol, I now rely solely on a nebulizer and an antihistamine. I take supplements to reduce inflammation and thin mucus. I have moderate COPD and am doing fairly well, but would benefit from a longer-lasting medication. Any suggestions? This discussion is related to Advair Skip a Day.
Avatar f tn a lot of times the medicine that you take for your asthma can cause high pulse rates esp. if you have to take a breathing treatment that will really cause your heart to pound.
1679876 tn?1304743615 Advair has 2 medications in it. Most likely it's the salmeterol that could trigger some quick heart beats since the other med is a steroid. I use albuterol for my asthma and it does cause my heart to beat more quickly for about 10 minutes. Then it eases off but it's quite normal for that particular medication. As for interactions, when you got your Advair, didn't the pharmacist go over the instructions and potential problems with you?
Avatar f tn Lobelia for the asthma to clear out the inflammation in the body that causes asthma. Also, many patients with "Vocal Cord Dysfunction" are often misdiagnosed with asthma. There is treatment for VCD.
Avatar m tn I went to a doc who said it was probably asthma and prescribed formoterol/budesonide and montelukast sodium. A few months later, my bedroom was treated for termite infestation, the fumes of which I presumed cleared up after about 4 days. After returning to my bedroom for a few nights, I woke up in a panic with severe SOB.
Avatar n tn About a year ago I was at the hospital for an Asthma attack. My stats seemed fine then (BP, BPM, ETC...). Sometimes, even after sitting down for an hours (in class) I can notice my heart beat beating very loud, and even sometimes see it make a little bump in my chest as it beats. Now I am very slender, but this seems very unusual. After intense activities, my heart beat becomes distracting and I can feel it in the back of my head. It's very scary at times. I have no other symptoms.
Avatar n tn My worry is that I seem to be developing the same problems as my mother. I have been diagnosed with asthma and allergies and am taking medications for these . I am taking Alvesco and Uniphyl for my asthma and am in my second year of injections for my allergies [ pollen, trees, grass, ragweed and cats]. I have started a fitness program and a weight training program to help build up my cardio and aerobic strength. In spite of all this my Dr.
Avatar n tn Severent (salmeterol) can have very serious side effects, death being the most notable. Flovent is a corticosteroid. Read the FDA warnings of February 2010. Like you I have moderately severe COPD. I use Duoneb (similar to combivent) in a nebulizer and find it very helpful. I discontinued the use of Advair (which is basically a combination of Serevent and Flovent) because it almost killed me (choking). It also caused adrenal fatigue, was harming my eyes, and was subverting my immune system.
Avatar n tn Advair™ Diskus® (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Powder contains 2 medicines. The inhaled steroid Flovent® (fluticasone propionate) has a half life of around 5 hours, so it would be totally out of your system in a few days. The inhaled long-acting bronchodilator Serevent® (salmeterol) has a similar half life, so it would be totally out of your system after 5 days. When steroid side effects occur, they may linger for weeks or even months after the medicine has been stopped.
Avatar n tn You are correct in wanting to wait until you have achieved optimum benefit from the Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Aerosol, before any consideration of oxygen use. The Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Aerosol may raise your saturation, to a degree that will make oxygen use unnecessary.
Avatar m tn 5 mcg/actuation, and Wixela (fluticasone propionate salmeterol inhalation powder) for my COPD. Is there a sequence I should be taking these meds in? Is there a time frame I should use between the two meds?
Avatar n tn There's a difference between "exercise induced asthma" (EIA) and asthma. I know, I'm a college wrestler and I have both. And yes, I was prescribed albuterol as a prevention medicine before every practice and every match. If you read the prescribing info for albuterol, you'll see very clearly that it is both a rescue medicine AND a preventative treatment for EIA.
