If you are continuing to have breathlessness, then you may need additional inhalers like ventolin, which contains salbutamol, which is short acting and helps relieve bronchospasm. It would be best to consult your doctor regarding persisting symptoms, he may prescribe additional inhalers or he may change the dose of the steroid inhaler.

I have various arrhythmia problems plus asthma. When I use Ventolin (it's an adrenergic drug, behaves similarly in your body like adrenalin), my heart will pound and beat faster for about 10 minutes. Then it slows down to normal again by then end of 20 minutes. Does that sound similar to your experience?
Last night I ate no food after 5pm that I could react to and around 9 pm I used the blue puffer (Ventolin Salbutamol Sulpate Inhalation Aerosol) and and what was left of my red puffer (Fovent flutisacone propionate - corticosteroid) - AND I immediately broke out in hives and itching everywhere including on my tongue and I had trouble swollowing. I took an anti-histamine and the hives lasted about 90 minutes.
Unfortunately with asthma you cannot treat it without inhalers and medication. Ventolin is going to be the best immediate action inhaler to help open your airways - it is a fairly safe drug and worth it. You MAY need other medications to help lower your overall inflammation which is the cause of asthma symptoms.

I'm 40 years old. I have had asthma since childhood - mild (occasional salbutamol) until about 10 years ago, then a little worse. Preventer inhaler as well as occasional ventolin - very rarely had symptoms. I smoked socially from age 20 (3-4 cigarettes each day - not underestimating!) until about 9 months ago - no further smoking.
My breathing has become a little more difficult, is so for most of the time, and is worst in the morning.

Hi, my GP has changed my meds today from seravent, becotide and salbutamol to Symbicort turbohaler. I have never used a turbohaler before and am finding it really hard to "suck" the drug into me! I have read the instructions and followed them to the letter but it just seems really difficult to suck through. Is this normal? or could the turbohaler be faulty? Also does it matter if i hear 2 clicks when loading? Please help as really need it to work!
I had to use the Ventolin inhaler 3 times today. Hopefully I will get well soon. I am also in a asthma study. I go to my 2nd appt this Saturday. I will get a different daily inhaler that I will use. Hopefully the inhaler I get will be better than Flovent. My doctor said that it will help me out to control my asthma. I really appreciate you responding to my post!
