Safety with liquids and solids

Common Questions and Answers about Safety with liquids and solids

safety

Avatar f tn Well dysphagia or difficulty in swallowing usually involves solids or both solids and liquids. Selective dysphagia to liquids is rare, and cause is often not known. It is treated by sipping liquids instead of drinking them in glups and giving medications to improve peristalsis and control reflux. If you also have dysphagia to solids (the problem may be more with liquids than with solids) the achalasia, esophageal stricture and a bad gastric reflux should be ruled out. You may need an endoscopy.
Avatar n tn gave some more small amounts of fluids but still vomited again. No sign of fever and no diarrhea. Playful and happy but still vomiting...and is sound asleep now. I can tell he is hungry but he is gagging anytime we give fluids or solids....we are frustrated and not sure what to do. We just find it strange that he basically has no other symptom and are concerned about his minimal food and liquids. We also find it strange that there is basically no other symptom but vomiting.
2026302 tn?1334731062 I stuck to a very bland diet for a few days (after not keeping down any solids for ~24 hours) as I was able to re-introduce solids - I figured at that point, any solids/nourishment were better than worrying about maximizing nutrition. Good luck!
Avatar n tn Ensure and other caloric drinks and Pediolight and baby food ate great ways to stay hydrated and get vitamins and nutrients to help maintain your weight
Avatar f tn This is my first child, 12 weeks and the smell of everything literally tears my stomach up. I can't keep anything down (solids and liquids) i know everyone is different in their pregnancy, but what was the few things that you could eat and not get sick from?
Avatar f tn Ladies, today is the first day that I experience the vomiting. I feel so horrible. I haven't been able to keep solids down. I have been drinking water and that is starting to make my stomach upset too. I took vitamin b6 for the nausea and vomiting but it only worked for a few hours. What have you girls been able to eat or take?
Avatar n tn One of the active ingredients in cigarettes is nicotine. Many of the neurotransmitter receptors in the stomach are a variety known as acetylcholine 'nicotinic' receptors. Depening upon the pathway these receptors are linked to, it's possible with a fully functional neural system in the stomach and upper GI tract, the result could be increased motility.

Ultrasound result: Right side 3.8x1.3x1; Left 3.5x1.3x1; isthmus is 2mm. Gland is generally homogeneous. 9mm complex nodule in mid to lower pole on right side. Gland shows hypervascularity on color doppler enhanced What does this mean.
Avatar n tn Hello~How are you feeling now? If it is the same and you haven't seen a doctor, than I highly suggest that you do, it may be something such as GERD or a hiatal hernia, but it is best to have issues like this checked by your doctor.
Avatar f tn Hope you stayed strong too Jen,so sorry no one was around to respond to your post last night...If you are still having the same symptoms today I would suggest calling your doctor. If you haven't been able to keep solids or liquids down for 5 days, you risk dehydration.Keep us posted.Worried about you...
Avatar n tn I am currently on all liquids (skim milk, 100% fruit juice, soups and water) as the band restricts me from eating solids.
Avatar f tn Not saying to stop trying to eat but sometimes its easier at the start to keep liquids down. I had to do that at times. And I think the nutrients in the shake helped me to be able to eat solids. Also just eat what sounds good right now. Dont force yourself to eat chicken or broccoli if the thought of it makes you wanna puke. It will pass....keep drinking water best of luck girl!
Avatar f tn It should get better anytime from 10-16 weeks, however some women are sick the entire pregnancy. If you are unable to keep down solids or liquids (especially water) it is extremely important you contact your doctor about it.
1981685 tn?1327865723 A complex cyst is a cyst containing both solids and liquids. For dermoid cysts the solids could be hair, teeth etc, for cystadenomas it would be mucus. I dont know what is "normal" period pain, I think it is most common to have pain just before/first few days of the period, but I believe it is abnormal if it lasts much longer than 3-4 days. Cysts can cause pain as well. I guess you will need to compare your pain to what you had before you got the cysts.
Avatar f tn Hi all. Recently I have been havin issues with swallowing. Just had my 3rd MRI in one year and there are no new lesions. Doctor says I'm doing ok but I have been suffering with problems in my ears( going to many doctors and they can't find much wrong-having more exams next week) and recently I have been having moments where I am going to swallow my own saliva and it seems I can't?! Like I forgot but after few seconds I manage to do it. Makes me pains which freaks me out.
Avatar n tn Hello, I have been having dysphagia issues since November 4, 2012. I have issues with both liquids and solids. Have had two endoscopy procedures done. First time was told I had an esophageal ulcer and polyps in stomach. Was put on Carafte repeated endoscopy on December 14, 2012. Results: ulcer looking healed, biopsy of polyps clear. This was by a Gastroenterologist. I have had no improvement. I have been battling pneumonia for over 3 weeks also.
Avatar f tn Dysphagia is just the technical term meaning difficulty swallowing, I honestly don't believe situation specific swallowing issues with only saliva, could be neurological caused but since you mention "also have that feeling of something in my throat" it's more likely one of the other causes eg GERD, Thyroid issues etc etc. than the neurological or muscular causes. see below to get some of the alternative ideas..... http://www.webmd.
Avatar f tn For the past two days I have been throwing up more than usual. I can't keep solids or liquids down and I feel dizzy when standing up. Also have diahrrea. I'm 13 weeks and freaking out. What should I do?
Avatar f tn I ask, because if you had a fistula that let gas come through into the vagina from the colon or lower intestine, it would let solids and liquids come through as well. Besides, your doctor would have seen or felt it. Did your doctor swab you for BV last time? It could be a combo of trapped air in the vagina making its way out (i.e., a queef) given an odor from BV or remnant of a forgotten tampon, or something like that.
Avatar m tn There might be a problem if you touched one of those fluids with a mucouse surface or if you had at the time, a fresh bleeding cut. If none of these situations apply to you, dont worry.
Avatar n tn Difficulty swallowing is common in the elderly and is often accompanied by aspiration of swallowed liquids or solids, into the trachea, commonly called the wind-pipe. These substances are very irritating to the airways and can cause bronchitis or pneumonia and almost always cause cough. The sounds "like she is choking", strongly suggests this possibility. Some swallowing disorders can be treated.

Avatar n tn oropharyngeal dysphagia (or transfer dysphagia) and esophageal dysphagia. In some patients, no organic cause for dysphagia can be found, and these patients are defined as having functional dysphagia.
Avatar f tn As she also suggested keep a close watch on when it happens and with what foods. Do liquids or solids cause the problem. Sometimes reflux can cause the laryngeal area to swell and this can cause pressure in the throat area. Thyroid problems can as well. Both will be noticed as pressure in the throat area and you can have problems when you lie down as well. A good ENT can be very helpful in isolating what is wrong. When you go in they take your history of the problem and ask questions.
Avatar f tn t hold anything solids or liquids . I was working over 40 hours a week . I just kept telling myself it will be worth it at the end and kept drinking fluids and small meals even if I couldn't hold in for more than ten minutes . Just keep a positive mindset .
