Common Questions and Answers about Safety of singulair in pregnancy

singulair

370736 tn?1247242917 I have asthma and use inhaler (long acting and short acting) and Singulair. My pulmonary doc and OB said they're fine to use in pregnancy. I have been using my inhaler a lot more during pregnancy and I'm pretty sure it's because we are now breathing for 2 and our blood flow (which carries oxygen) is going for 2.
1135961 tn?1279145314 I have seen two doctors and im on a combination of meds. They are, Advair500, Atrovent, Alvesco, Prednizone, Singulair, and ventolin. All these meds dont seem to work.Ive been to the e.r three times in the last two months. And during my last visit I was put on bypass. Its seems like every day my chest is tight, and I wease a little. Sure there are some good days, but overall my asthma is still out of control. I feel so frustrated , and dont want to end up in the er again. What do I do?
Avatar f tn Sooo.
Avatar f tn Under these circumstances where you do not have knowledge of his status I think it is better to err on the side of safety.
Avatar n tn t take the Zyflo CR, because these meds effect some peoples emotions incl. me apparently.... but taking the higher dose of Singulair has brought some relief.... I'm not a doc but I've been to many trying to get mystery burning of the skin and rashes figured out incl. a dbl ear infection and EVERY doc that the dbl. Singulair and Zyflo was a Brilliant idea.... God bless, keep the faith...
Avatar m tn Your doctor should be able to clarify that and answer the question of safety vs. avoidance. In addition, only one type of inhaler called a beta agonist, which comes in a short-acting and a long-acting form, can lead to tachycardia or other abnormal heart rhythms. If what you have experienced is simply a rhythm called sinus tachycardia with a rate not much over 100 beats per minute, there would be little or no danger, especially if you have no underlying heart disease.
Avatar m tn It causes asthma (Arizona Cypress, Mesquite and Palo Verde are the culprits.) Singulair has helped me very successfully in the past. However, I also take a very low dose blood pressure medication (Lisinopril 20mg). I do not have health insurance and have an alternative source for medications. Would it be advisable for me to purchase Singulair for 3 months to get me through those three months next year. This year was a bit difficult without it.
460830 tn?1347219306 Leukotrienes are chemicals your body releases when you breathe in an allergen (such as pollen). These chemicals cause swelling in your lungs and tightening of the muscles around your airways, which can result in asthma symptoms. Singulair is used to prevent asthma attacks in adults and children as young as 12 months old. It is also used to relieve runny nose and sneezing caused by allergies in adults and children as young as 6 months old.
920032 tn?1550680156 He prescribed me with the symbicort turbuhaler and I have one puff off this once a day and in the past 2 months that I have been on it, I have pretty much forgotten that I am asthmatic, even through the extreme cold in the last couple of weeks. By this time of the year I have normally suffered through Bronchitis at least twice, I am still waiting for my first one this year...
1932244 tn?1323292210 For this reason, you should be sure to consult with a high-risk pregnancy specialist or other experienced OB/GYN early in your next pregnancy and ideally before conception. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar m tn i was not warned of the possible side effects like so many other parents and patients. there is also some thought that singulair is being linked to suicide in teenagers. you can google suicide and singulair and watch a family's story about their son's suicide. also look up your child's medications on www.medications.com. i hope this message reaches other parents with children on singulair.
Avatar f tn I would recommend you waiting till your in your second trimester to start exercising cause the baby's so small and fragile any wrong move could cause your body to try to expel the baby but it is safe as long as your body is excepting it & your comfortable don't push yourself to hard or lift to heavy I'm 25 weeks & still work out like a champ every other day
Avatar f tn 5 hours, 50% of the amount of Singulair in your body will be eliminated. If you took a 5mg dose of Singulair, within the time frames they gave, you will only have 2.5mg left in your body. 2.7-5.5 hours later, you will have 50% of THAT amount left in your body. This 50% reduction will continue until all of the medication is out of your system. I totally suck at math but maybe YOU'RE an Einstein and can figure out, from this equation, exactly when the last of the Singulair will leave your body.
Avatar f tn most ob/gyns advise the use of condoms as well as the b/c pills to help even more with the prevention of pregnancy.
Avatar n tn You can sleep on right side as well . You can try doing it now though to get used to it . Later on in pregnancy if you wake up on your back just roll over baby is ok . He or she will most likely make you uncomfortable before anything bad happens your body will signal a response to you most likely . I had thos worry and sometimes I still wake up on my back just get used it your side sleeping now while its still comfortable for you .
Avatar f tn Normally it is safe thru your whole pregnancy but it would be best to talk to your doctor since you did have spotting! Need to make sure the baby is ok.
Avatar n tn After about 4 weeks, these symptoms disappeared and did not reappear until a year later (6 months postpartum). In addition to a great deal of shortness of breath and fatigue, I also began to experience significant heart palpitations, extreme lightheadedness and near fainting spells. On one occasion, I went to the ER and 1 1/2 hours after I was laying on the floor, my heart rate on the EKG was only 40 bpm.
Avatar n tn I have major vertigo and nausea, I can’t stand up and or focus on anything. The buzzing I my ear is louder and i have the feeling of having water in my ear. I assume I have labyrinthitis. I call the ENT and he prescribes a staggered course of Methyl Prednisone and Singulair (Montelukast) 10 mg for the ear and Meclizine for the Vertigo. 5/07/20 I still have fullness ( feeling underwater) and buzzing in my left ear even though the vertigo has gone.
Avatar n tn I have looked up the side effects of both Singulair and Advair. It seems that both can cause skin issues. I just know that he's been using the Advair all along with no problems but once he started the Singulair the itching returned. Now I will have to say that the past two days have been better. Maybe his body needed to adjust? Dunno.
Avatar f tn In general, drugs such as Ultram (or tramadol) are not recommended during pregnancy or during breastfeeding because there is a lack of safety information. This does not mean that it will necessarily cause problems for the fetus or baby, but since the information is not known, it might. Animal studies have shown that the drug crosses to the developing fetus, but the danger to a developing human fetus is not known.
7730563 tn?1393781747 Had asthma since I was about 8. I've always had albuterol inhalers and I definitely wouldn't use it while pregnant. You can look up certain exercises to help open up your lungs if you're having an attack. The army taught me how to breathe properly and control my anxiety so my attacks aren't as bad anymore. The baby is making it a bit harder now but so far I haven't needed my inhaler.
Avatar f tn Have you tried taking your blood pressure lying down, sitting, and then standing along with your pulse rate in each of those positions? You may also want to try your post here: http://www.medhelp.
Avatar m tn Call your doctor ASAP to make adjustments in your treatment. I have never heard of twitching with Singulair, but it is a side effect of other asthma meds. Be sure to let your doctor know that you have stopped taking Singulair this week and watch for signs of uncontrolled asthma - increased use of inhaler, coughing, sighing... There are a lot of subtle signs that people miss. You do need to be off the med, but be careful. Take care and I am glad you are feeling better.
Avatar f tn I am a mother of a 26 year daughter who recently pulled the plug on taking a daily dose of Singulair (it was generic) after over a year. It was used as a maintenance treatment for chronic allergies and sinus infections. Seemed to work ok, however in the 6 months there had been a couple times she rushed herself to the doctor for symptoms that no one even thought to suspect the allergy medication. First there was numbing and tingling in her arms.
