Avatar n tn I worked in public schools over 20 years. At Kindergarten age they go with another child unless they are known to get into trouble together. Boys will be boys and Yes they get into trouble and get disciplined (I hope Mamirez1 you did not try to justify your child's behavior with that saying IN FRONT OF YOUR CHILD- which I have heard some parents have done- I am sure you were in every way respectful of the teacher and the school. well done!
Avatar f tn Charter schools = public schools that are in their own district; not affiliated with whatever district they reside in And the financial assistance for private schooling is done by *donations* not by taxpayers' dollars.
Avatar n tn Good point Specialmom. Don't elementary public schools have the ability to intervene once a child is 3 if there is a problem?
Avatar f tn I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, in theory I support well trained guards in the schools. On the other hand it could set a precedent for vigilantism and chaos.
Avatar f tn for the past few months I got confused whenever im in public an cannot remember where I am or what to do or anyone names.what could this be?
1310633 tn?1430224091 Troopers said the owner of a farm in Herkimer, NY, set up video surveillance in his barn in an attempt to determine why his cows appeared anxious and were not producing as usual. The owner then contacted state police after the video revealed that the cows were being sexually abused, troopers said. An investigation revealed that Jones agreed to record Fontaine as he attempted to have sexual contact with several of the animals.
Avatar n tn Kids with issues need to be given special accomodations in public schools, but not when they present a danger to other students-- when this happens. The public school system must provide an adequate education for these children, but that does not mean that others must get hurt along the way.
Avatar f tn students there are barely passing in public school. Again, just from my experience with private schools in my area.
Avatar f tn Even in my school years we had incidents unfitting for kids every once in a while. I think the public school system is just fine and all six of mine came out without any scars and make a pretty good living. Private schools have their own set of booger boos as well.
1747881 tn?1546175878 t hear anyone here saying that more stringent security in schools is not the answer, in fact I hear more saying it is needed, however that is purely anecdotal and just my observation
Avatar f tn School voucher programs in Florida, Georgia, and Oklahoma have sent taxpayer money to schools that teach creationism. In Louisiana, almost none of the private schools receiving voucher funds have maintained the separate accounts for public dollars which the law requires, making it impossible to audit their use of the funds. Just two schools have been properly audited, and one of them relies on uncertified teachers and “plopping students in front of televisions to watch lessons on DVDs.
Avatar f tn We are looking to relocate to the Northern MA. Are there any special Ed public school ranking resources available? I’ve been looking and found state rankings but nothing that specifically outlines special ed ranking.
1310633 tn?1430224091 I believe part of the problem with American public schools is that they try to be all things to all students. To me, the European model, where high school age students either attend a university prep type school or a technical or trade school makes more sense. I understand that in large cities, charter schools are taking desperately needed resources from public schools, but from what I've observed in the last few years, they may be a better fit for smaller semi-rural communities.
480448 tn?1426948538 I've posted a photo of the letter we received from the district outlining the changes to be put in place following the Sandy Hook tragedy. I apologize if it's hard to read, plus I edited out names for privacy purposes. I am actually shocked the district was so quick to implement these changes, and I'm pleased. I don't think the gun debate should have anything to do with what each school district decides to implement for their children's safety.
Avatar f tn t been able to get any work done... I try and try but nothing seems to work... when I was actually in Public school I got just about all of my work done and had As and Bs. Every time I see my grades I want to cry.... I've been trying to convince my mom ever since she enrolled me into online school to please put me back in public school. I really need help to convince her I'm tired of being home all the time and not being able to focus on what needs to get done...
Avatar f tn It's wrong wrong wrong. Unless it is an Islamic school, I don't think this is ok at all. When I was in highschool, you could take a course that taught the theory behind all sorts of different religions. It was an elective, and frankly I took it because I found it interesting. It didn't teach that any of the religions were the one to follow, just how they began, evolved and the principals behind them.
206807 tn?1331936184 Bobby Jindal signed 35 bills into law Monday afternoon, including two pieces of education legislation that will change how public schools administer the ACT and handle prayer in schools. Since the session ended June 6, Jindal has signed 294 bills into law. The governor gave final approved to state Rep. Katrina Jackson's House Bill 724, which would allow students to gather before and after school and during "non-instructional" times of the day.
148588 tn?1465778809 Religion should be taught at home, in churches, temples, etc or in private religious schools, not in public school where children of differing beliefs including atheists, go for academic education. As for teaching religion in history well that gets sticky doesn't it? What the Christians saw as righteous crusades, the Muslims saw as unwarranted attacks from outsiders. It's all about perspective which is relative, isn't it ?
1310633 tn?1430224091 Maybe have the National Guard or the Army patrol ALL public venues? Enact a sort of "police state", in order to protect us all from the crazies. "sieg heil" anyone? *** I think we should stick with SCHOOLS ONLY for right now. If you start down the path of having ALL public places patrolled by military'types, we start to look a lot like Nazi Germany, don't you think?
Avatar m tn This child could be placed in early intervention now within the public school system but the parents should address this. Perhaps they and the public school can provide an intervention that you could not. And I really believe that is false that they will let kids go for 2 years prior to intervention. That would be unethical and not something I've ever seen or heard of.
377493 tn?1356502149 ~teachers in these schools are often (although not always) as qualified as in public schools. people who cannot jobs in public schools end up taking jobs in the charter schools. ~ there is a lot of problems with administration in some of these schools (corruption, misuse of funding, etc). This is based on what I have heard from parents and teachers who have interacted with the charter schools. I'm not making blanket statements that all are bad.
Avatar f tn Washington public schools taught an "abstinence- heavy" sex education starting in 5th grade. They had diagrams in 5th grade that taught you how the systems worked, acknowledged STDs and their common symptoms, and answered any question. They pushed abstinence, but still gave the kids info on Planned Parenthood, abortions, birth control, etc. I never went to Sex Ed, I learned what they taught through friends.
1530342 tn?1405016490 Opponents of the laws had said that mixing guns and alcohol would endanger public safety. Supports argued that the laws bring Ohio into line with other states that have concealed carry rules.
Avatar f tn What excuse does the schools have for not doing thorough background checks, especially in the times we live in. Where do they think these perverts are going to crop up? Where the children are for starters! Playgrounds! Scouts! Childrens Sports! Church! Lack of Common sense and unforgiveable imo! Criminal is the word that describes it. Hold who hired those idiots accountable with their jobs!
