Avatar f tn Hello, Went to an HIV clinic for testing. While the technician stepped out for a minute, I noticed there was a paperclip on the table. I "straightened it out" and used one of the ends clean under a finger nail. Don't recall if there was blood on the clip, but obviously the clip wasn't in a pool of blood or semen. I did poke myself a little hard with the clip and I do recall seeing that I had some blood come out from under my nail.
1263908 tn?1273170000 I read my discharge papers, and that is how I found out about the missing clip and the hydrosalpinx. I have done research on my own about this, but I am still extremely confused about how this happened, and where the other clip went. I have read some horror stories from some of you on here, and am hoping to get some advice on how to approach my GP. I am conserned that this missing clip could be the cause of some of my pain, but it seems to not worry most doctors out there.
Avatar n tn For your information, the standard of care is to place a tiny stainless steel or titanium clip on the spot where the tissue is sampled. The clip is important, because it serves as a landmark to identify the area that was biopsied on future mammograms. If there's ever a need for surgical removal of more tissue, then the surgeon can use the clip as a bull's-eye marker during surgery. The clip will be automatically removed if the surgeon does an open excisional procedure on that area.
Avatar m tn i have read an article stating how some people may have been exposed to the hiv virus (and hepatitis) because the hospital didnt use the proper sterilization on colonoscopy equipment. and another similar article that stated those that underwent ear, nose, and throat treatments were exposed too. how likely is someone to catch the hiv virus from a situation like this?
Avatar m tn The article you reference makes no mention of HIV - that is because HIV cannot be transmitted that way. If you have other questions about the safety of using dental equipment, we suggest visiting the Dental Health forum, as this forum is HIV specific.
Avatar m tn I don't think I'd be inclined to think of something having to do with the central nervous system, I'd lean more toward a structural problem with maybe a narrowing of the spinal cord in the cervical region impinging on a nerve or nerves that causes the tremors in the legs. What breed of dog is he?
Avatar m tn Tattoo artists/piercers are trained on safety measures regarding bloodborne pathogens and do not reuse needles and they sterilize equipment between all customers.
Avatar f tn As the blood flows past it can detect how many red corpuscles are passing the clip containing oxygen, giving your oxygen to blood saturation level. If your circulation is sluggish, readings can become inaccurate. If your reading drops below 95%, they may perform a blood gas test. This involves a syringe being used to extract a small sample of blood, usually from an artery in the wrist. The syringe is preloaded with a tiny amount of coagulant to stop the blood clotting before testing.
Avatar f tn Also being a combined research facility usually means they have state of the art equipment and pretty good experts.
Avatar n tn Power-generating equipment, arc welding equipment and powerful magnets (as in medical devices, heavy equipment or motors) can inhibit pulse generators. Patients who work with or near such equipment should know that their pacemakers may not work properly in those conditions. Cellphonelphones available in the United States (less than 3 watts) don't seem to damage pulse generators or affect how the pacemaker works.
Avatar f tn I'm going to get the new baby trend set. The safety harness are awesome and easy compared to others. The have the handle that clips the buckle in rather than the pain in the but clip.
572651 tn?1530999357 If you saw my email inbox you might be surprised at some of the mail I receive. I have signed up on distribution lists for many medical sites, including Nursing Times from the UK. I received an announcement today about an upcoming convention in LONDON, that may be of interest to some of you. This convention/conference is September 29-30 and the registration is FREE. I wish I could go, but its a bit far to commute. Some of you who live in the UK may be interested, though.
Avatar f tn I am so scared:) I was at a discount store and poked my hand with a safety pin that was taken apart, basically mangled. It looked like somebody had twisted it. It was on top of a clothing rack. It drew blood on me. The store had just opened and I am wondering if someone had purposely placed it there. Can I get hiv fro it and if not can you explain why? Thank you I am so scared!!!!
Avatar f tn Some mommies say not to cuz you dunno the safety regulations on it but you can look your model up and see if its safe. Also wash the fabric on it so you know its germ free.
Avatar m tn Please check out Betty Dodson's website, called the "genital art gallery." She is an artist who kind of fell into the health-education biz when she did an art show of women's genitals and the gallery got swamped with requests from women who wanted to know whether theirs were normal. If I remember correctly, there is a vagina in her images that has a neat little set of black edges, like the ears of a Siamese cat. Very interesting and rather cute.
225237 tn?1333138999 I did a spot check myself with a $30 finger clip on oximeter, but I had symptoms, I would wake up feeling like I was suffocating. I would then quickly clip on the oximeter and found some readings in the mid 80s %. This kicked of the path to a full medical sleep study which included the recording of oxygen levels along with many other parameters, including sleep phases. REM and the like. and % of time in each sleep REM.
Avatar n tn Yes those are state of the art equipment. The lasik could make the halos better or worse. Dry eyes is a relative contraindication to having LASIK and it could make it worse. Be sure the surgeon knows about the dryness and consider getting a second opinion.
1651508 tn?1322141280 It's probably the equipment. When one is between two or more stages of healthy state, these things can happen. Try to build more tenacity and reflective flexibility for the helping part.
475300 tn?1312423126 Since were talking about tattoos-I was a tattoo artist in the 1980s and early 90s.One way hepC is transmitted via tattoo is interesting. Even though everything (equipment ,etc.) has been medically sterilized in an autoclave, there's a place some inexperienced tattooists miss. First, I fill a small cup with ink, and then begin the tattoo. I dip the bloody needles into the ink, and back to your skin. No problem there. Now, I run low on ink and refill the cup.
Avatar f tn I don't know if it's true or not but my family and boyfriends family are really strict when it comes to that. They always make me do the safety pins with the red underwear. Lol so I just do it. My mom won't let me go out for the night when there's an eclipse. She bought me all red pj's to wear for the whole afternoon and night. Hispanics believe that's 100% true.
Avatar m tn It sounds like your doctor uses the same sort of equipment that used to be routine (20+ years ago), i.e. a sterile bacteriological loop. These were the norm among many STD specialists before modern disposalble swabs becamse widely available. And my guess the scalpel blade was disposable, single-use. There is no reasonable possibility the doctor does not carefully sterilizes the loop (and scalpel, if not disposablet) between patients.
Avatar f tn Do it when she's asleep, don't try and get the whole nail in one clip it's better to do a few small snips carefully than a big one that might get too much
Avatar m tn You could ask the doctor, but please keep in mind that even men with penises that are 3 1/2 inches are still able to please their sexual partner, which (unless you plan to star in porn films) is the second most important function of a penis (passing water through it being the first). All of a woman's equipment for orgasm is right at the front of her vagina, and even were a man to be only one inch long, he can still give orgasms to the lady.
Avatar m tn Third, almost all phlebotomy and injection equipment are now manufactured to be a ONE use only item, with safety features that actually render the equipment unable to be used a second time. If you cannot accept this, then get yourself some professional help.
1244180 tn?1325899111 s actually even better to keep them facing the rear up to 2 years in age as it provides greater safety to them in case of accident. Is the one that you want a convertable carseat? I've heard those are great!
2168213 tn?1357062544 I'm 12wks now and our sex life has been great. But my husband wanted to spice it up and bought me dildo/vibrator. I haven't had that and never experienced it. Anyone use it? Is it safe for the baby? I definitely don't want to risk the safety of my baby with my sexual pleasure. My little one is precious!!!
Avatar f tn we are so used to medical treatment being black and white but I guess ablation is a bit of an art form. I do believe the procedure is safe but so much in medicine depends on the doctor I think. I'm just greatful there is some alternative to just meds.
