Avatar f tn Alex, I'm sorry to hear that you have to do chemo, I hope that you are on your road to recovery. I thank you in advance for any information you can give me. Do you have to be careful with it. I was told I wouldn't have to baby it. My problem is I'm not making it thru my infusions without my vein collpasing or them having trouble threading at the beginning. So they suggested a port, I don't know alot about them but was worried about the do's and dont's.
415684 tn?1257329318 Has anyone experienced an infection at their port site. My port itself is fine .. but there is swelling, redness, and heat just above the port where there are a couple of tubes buried under the skin. I am in Canada, but intend to go to my MD's office tomorrow afternoon to have it checked. Anyone had this problem .. and how did you fix it?
Avatar f tn I have had two rounds at home for optic neuritis. They will teach you how to flush the port and put the anticoagulant into the port. When I have had it, it is not "a drip," but a pressurized "infusion ball" that makes sure it takes an hour to go in. Not a big deal.
Avatar f tn It is easy access for a CT scan as long as the place your having the ct scan done at a place that has the PowerLoc safety infusion set. This hooks up to the power port to put in the contrast agent. It also allows blood draws and IV infusion. I have my first chemo on Tuesday so I hope it works well. I am bruised and sore right now from having it put in. I read the little book they gave me to read. They told me they put in 8-10 of the power ports a week, so I guess it is the new technology.
233622 tn?1279334905 Hello, My doctor wants to put a port in for my Tysabri infusions. Does anyone have a port? Any downside to having a port? It is becoming more difficult to get an IV started because my veins do not hold up even though they look good. Thanks!
Avatar n tn My last ca125 was 56, it was done four weeks after my last treatment. I have not yet had my IP port removed. My question is what could be causing my ca125 to still be above normal? Could it be the IP port?
535822 tn?1443976780 After months of negotiations, the Port Authority, which is overseeing reconstruction at ground zero, ended its talks with the church on Monday, saying that the church had sought increasingly costly concessions. Complaints, of course, abound on both sides. The authority now says that St. Nicholas is free to rebuild the church on its own parcel at 155 Cedar Street, just east of West Street.
564735 tn?1263943526 Thanks for everyone's input and advice. I am going to have a port put in at the end of the month and for tomorrow's chemo they will just do a regular IV. I am so excited that I will be able to continue with my water aerobics and take showers instead of Baths. I don't know why my Oncologists( local and at MD Anderson) never mentioned there were options to the Groshong besides a PICC line.
Avatar n tn I am interested because I was told the IP port could not stay in as long. I had my IP port out soon and then requested the IV port out at one year. I hated them. They weren't a big problem just a constant reminder.
822194 tn?1263689103 m not sure what an ip port is -i have a power port -or implantable port which may be the same thing mine is under my colar bone -i had a pic line- but my skin started to break down -and it started to itch. they use it for chemo- blood draws-blood transfusions -meds and can use it for the ct scan--they installed it in the x ray dept i was out when they installed it- but went home the same day-it took a couple of days to heal--its a lot better then failed attempts to start an i.
Avatar n tn I have a port on my chest wall, had it for 2 1/2 years without a problem. the abdominal port is for IP chemo, I think, but then I don't know where they place them. Good luck to you.
653618 tn?1260603643 I had to go to the hospital or the gyn/onc for blood draws and port flushes, always done at the same time in my case, but my hands were never sore. I preferred it and was sorry to part with my port.
905378 tn?1244854365 My mom is having this put in tommorow by a surgeon at a hospital. Everyone says its so simple and no problems.
Avatar n tn I am due to have a bone scan and CT scan after the conclusion. I have a port a cath which has been great, but it apparently can't be used to have the dyes for a CT and Bone scan. WHY? I have permanently damaged veins in my "good" arm due to chemo burn, so last time a canula (?) had to be put in in the day surgery dept. as no-one else would do it.
Avatar f tn We took the needle out yesterday and I noticed that my skin is clearly thinning. I’ve had discomfort over my port and over the tube from the port to my vein, but I thought it was just something that would go away. There’s no infection, but the port is visible through the skin (there’s no hole in the skin at this time) in a way it never was before.
Avatar m tn I had my port placed on we'd by a general surgeon and had my chemo Friday. My port is directly under the incision so the nurse had to stick the needle right through the incision site causing severe pain and for the glue to unhinge a bit. The pics and u-tube videos I see show the incision above or below the port! I will be angry if the surgeon messed up as he convinced me to let him do this procedure rather than the radiologists that usually do it.
Avatar m tn I am recieving chemo at home question is there anything to put over the port and line so i can take a shower
Avatar f tn It was decided that this was an ideal time to do a Lap procedure at NYU and have an IP port put in. This will be followed by IP topotecan the following week, three days in a row every 3-4 weeks. My doctor feels this will be the most effective way to proceed. Has anyone out there had this procedure and subsequent treatment? I would like to know what I am in store for now!
517119 tn?1285871392 He was kind when he spoke to me but I felt really rushed to get off the phone. My port is still stinging a bit. He said it could take awhile for the port to heal - and that my skin is stretching around it. I will have the results by Thurs for the biopsy. Joyce - dont worry I have taken Percocet and the like for many years - (I have slipped discs in my neck) I know how it makes me feel - very tired. So I wont get addicted. Thanks for your concern though.
Avatar f tn Is it possible the chemo may not be entering the port at this time? There is no further bleeding, but I have noticed a slight burning/discomfort in my left breast. I am curious whether or not this is a posibility? Infusion is at the rate of 0.50cc/hr. Thank you for your expertise.
264121 tn?1313029456 When I woke up yesterday I had a lot of pain in the center of my chest and I felt around and realized that somehow the catheter that connects my port internally had moved from the side of my neck into the center of my chest, and I think it must have bled inside. So I saw a surgeon this morning and they are taking it out tomorrow. I have a closed port that is under the skin, so you can see a bump but there aren't any lines that come out.
Avatar n tn Should I get a port? My nurses every month are having to stick me 3 to 4 times to start my medicine? They are telling me my veins are rolling and it is getting harder to start me every month.
Avatar f tn A doctor with so little compassion should not be working with patients of any kind, let alone cancer patients. I think she should definitely at least talk with her PCP about this if she has one...at the very least.
Avatar f tn My Port-a-Cath has been painfully throbbing all day today. I know it is possible to get an infection but don't know what that would "look" like. I've been told to watch for itching or redness, but don't know about the pain. I've had fleeting pain before but it's never lasted like this. I do not want to go to the doctor if I don't have to, but not sure if the pain doesn't stop when I should really get concerned.
340734 tn?1256586262 For those that knew I started Tamoxifen 8 weeks ago, it didn't work for me. Today at my doctor's appt, I was told my number (CA125) went from 72 (8 weeks ago) to 161. Still not a significant number, but I'll be starting Taxol weekly for the next 6 months. (Hopefully) this will put the disease in check for me. Only time will tell. Now, I will be putting that chemo tracker to use, but I've been told that weekly Taxol is not so bad.
408448 tn?1286883821 Do doctors do I/P treatment for recurrences? I have already completed my I/P treatments. I haven't been on chemo since 11/12/2007. Every time I ask to have my port out my onc says let's wait a while. I thought you could only have I/P treatments one time. I sure would like to get rid of this. It is huge and makes all bras hurt me.
Avatar m tn Removing the opener, I then inserted it into the neutral port and nothing happened. I then removed it and stuck it back into the active port and inserted a second opener into the neutral port. Touching them simultaneously and nothing happened. It was a huge relief. Never did I attempt to simultaneously insert openers into both the active and neutral ports, for I knew this would've meant electrocution and ensuing death. It didn't stop here.
