Avatar n tn I am really trying to better understand blood glucose levels as they relate to a prognosis of diabetes, especially in relation to your diet and quantity of food.
Avatar m tn However, with the finding of glucose in your urine, you should also be checked for blood sugar levels. Hopefully the dr with check fasting glucose and Hba1c (3 months average blood glucose). If levels are found to be high, it may also be recommended that you are tested for antibodies and c-peptide (an indirect measure of insulin levels) to determine what type of diabetes you have (type 1 or type 2).
Avatar f tn I am sure the doctor will get back to you, but you really have to make sure and show this to your child's doctor. I have learned that the blood sugars he is having are not normal and he needs to be seen tomorrow. He needs the follow up testing asap and needs an A1C test. This shows the average blood sugar over the last few months. It showed my daughter to have a glucose intolerance. Good Luck. Becky This is on the american diabetes association website.
Avatar m tn If you are determined to be pre-diabetic or to have type 2 diabetes then you can begin to determine a plan to manage your blood sugars. Type 2 diabetes is a manageable condition, but if you ignore it the consequences are quite serious. Managing type 2 diabetes is done with carb reduction, weight loss if needed, exercise and oral meds if your doctor determines this is needed.

Avatar n tn Chromium appears to play a role in normal insulin function and glucose utilization, and some investigators have suggested that it increases insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance and decreases blood glucose levels in certain diabetics, possibly those with low chromium levels. However, others have not corroborated these findings, and a few have even reported a negative effect on glucose tolerance and blood levels.
Avatar m tn Perhaps to be safe I should abstain from smoking as well as food prior to the test, as nicotine could affect my blood glucose levels. But on the other hand, doesn't *nicotine withdrawal* also affect blood glucose levels? I've heard it claimed that some nicotine withdrawal symptoms are really mild hypoglycemia, although I am unsure about the accuracy of that claim. Any suggests on how to proceed?
639406 tn?1308877111 All the above will lower your blood glucose levels but you must do all - slacking on one defeats the others. I would not go back to this pill dispensing doctor. You're not a stage where you need drugs, you're very close but not there yet. By doing the aforementioned you have a very good chance of returning your blood glucose to normal levels, but only if you adhere to a healthy lifestyle.
Avatar n tn Here is some more information on blood glucose ranges and blood sugar testing for you from MedHelp.org and the Sugar Sense app. http://www.medhelp.org/diabetes/articles/Be-Blood-Sugar-Savvy/1777 If you enter enough data over enough days, our app gives you an average A1C -- this is your 3 month average amount of glucose in your blood. It's likely a better measure than the daily averages from your meter, as Mindmaster points out. Here's a little more about the A1C: http://www.medhelp.
Avatar m tn I started measuring my blood glucose levels because i have family history of type 2 diabetes. So when i get the chance (and i get a lot) i test my blood glucose levels. I do a lot of tests and the blood glucose levels were never >140 mg /ml (134 was the highest one, so i got concerned). While fasting usually the blood glucose is arround 90. 1 day happened to be 108 (i ate a lot the night before).
1461994 tn?1285897132 Hi, I've been on Interferon/Ribavarin therapy for 3 weeks now for HCV Genotype 2B. When I started, my glucose was 78 but it jumped to 90 this week. Is this normal? Should I be concerned that I'm going to develop diabetes if I continue with tx for 21 more weeks? My blood sugar has always been in the 70's or 80's, no family history of diabetes, I'm 59, thin and in good physical condition otherwise.
Avatar f tn I'm really confused because I did both the one and three hour test they said I have gestational diabetes but ever since I've gotten my glucometer my blood sugar have been like 55, 64 two hours after I eat is that bad or normal I'm very confused? Please help!!
Avatar n tn A fasting glucose test will give a fairly accurate reading of the amount of excess glucose floating around your blood streams. A measurement of 5.0 mmol/l is considered normal, not diabetic.
Avatar n tn Caffeine can make my glucose levels rise a couple of hours later also. Not always, but often. I compensate by testing a couple of hours after my first sip of coffee and compensating with a tiny bit of insulin if glucose levels are rising. I believe that in my case, my body starts producing adrenalin when the caffeine kicks in. And adrenalin can make sugars rise. So I suspect that this effect is different for different people.
Avatar n tn First thing you need have on hand is a home glucose test meter. The only way you're going to know how the foods you consumed affected your glucose [blood sugar] levels is by testing, testing, and more testing. Times to test are; fasting - first thing in morning b4 having any food or colored liquids [plain water is OK]. This will tell you how much stored sugar your liver is dumping during sleep hours. Normal levels are 60/70 - 99 mg/dl or 3.33/3.88 - 5.
390388 tn?1279636213 Amy, I'm concerned. I frankly know a great deal about diabetes, having had it for a long time, and having lost several friends and family members to the disease. I would suggest you research it again. An A1C rating is 6 is very good, below the average. However, it isn't rated 4 - 6, its open-ended both high and low. A fasting glucose level of 150 would concern me very much, that's way to high. Tight control of glucose level would be a reading of no more than 100.
Avatar m tn I have done some research and learned that CoQ10 might lower the Blood pressure and Blood sugar levels. Also, it might interfere with Blood pressure medications ir blood sugar medication? Now, is it safe for her to take a 30mg CoQ10 capsule everyday?
Avatar m tn My question is i have type 2 diabetes, and in the morings before i eat my blood sugar reading is 140 to 162 my meds are metformin 1ooo mg in the morning, and 1ooo in the eaving with meals. i allso take dlipizide 5 mg in the morning before i eat and 5 mg in eaving before i eat.my last ac1 was 7.3 up from 6.9 my urin creatine was 116. and creatine was 1.
231441 tn?1333892766 HHi Sally, It looks like you are doing good job of trying to optimize your health prior to trying to become pregnant, and that is definitely to be commended. A fasting of 100 mg/dL is just on the borderline of slight abnormality(impaired fasting glucose), as are your post-meal levels in the 150's(impaired glucose tolerance). I do suggest repeating the glucose tolerance test prior to trying to become pregnant, and also continuing to try to lose some weight.
Avatar n tn just as a personal experience my father had glucose 125 (max normal 100), we just made his vitamin d serum levels optimal to around 65-85ng/ml by 10.
Avatar n tn since i have been planning on having a baby,i have to monitor my blood suger levels on two accounts the have gone up to 8, and 9points.the doctor has told me b.s have to be in normal range if not i will be put on insulin for my pregnancy and then after birth i can stop and continue diet control again, but i am worried if my body gets used to insulin how will i manage without it .
Avatar m tn I believe that the benefits pf statins outweigh the risks and have altered my eating lifestyle so to nearly exclude carbohydrates. This has enabled me to continue statin regime while keeping my fasting blood glucose levels at acceptaptable unmedicated levels. My wife on the other hand continues to take Metformin while on the statin drug.
Avatar n tn The reason I make this suggestion is that although thirst is more of a diabetes symptom, it is very true that if sugar levels drop too low, a dry mouth sensation similar to true thirst happens, too, and headaches are very common with low blood sugar. I would think you need to find out if your glucose levels are going either direction out of the norm, just to be safe.
