338416 tn?1420045702 s quite foot drop yet, but I certainly have to *think* about lifting my foot up. They make a foot brace that would hold my foot up, but it's plastic and clunky. I don't think I would have started running again if it wasn't for the weight. I get so frustrated, because I'm really trying to restrict my calories, and it doesn't do a bit of good. Working out on the trainer was exercise, but it just wasn't enough. I'm starting to wonder if I have a thyroid problem.
Avatar f tn She started taking steps at 8 and a half months and now she is running. She is also a very good climber. She climbs up the ladder to get to the slide, climbs up on to the table and she has even learnt if she pushes the foot stool over to the bench she can climb up that to.
Avatar n tn I'm a little confused! When you say count as steps! do you mean one foot in front of the other as in walking?? If that 's what you mean then every step of your feet counts. If not could you please be more specific.
Avatar f tn The hour on the treadmill should do a lot of good, but it would be a good idea to change things around a bit -- if you constantly do the same thing every day, your body may become used to it and it will no longer be a challenge. You could try running on the treadmill, alternating with walking. I'd also recommend that you try keeping a food diary, such as the one here on medhelp.
Avatar f tn the toe of my running shoe (yes it made that sound) on the treadmill. Drop foot (or foot drop) is caused by weakness that can be distal (ankle flexion) and/or proximal (hip) or both -- my situation. It also has different causes -- the most common causes are peripheral nerve issues such as diabetes or injury. It can also be caused by central nervous system weakness. Do you have weakness?
Avatar f tn You probably over stride and land hard on your heels. Try shortening your stride so your foot strikes a more of a glancing blow beneath your hips. Decreasing foot contact time with the ground makes you feel lighter on your feet and a smoother runner. Quicker leg turnover is necessary to compensate for your new, shorter stride length. Good runners take about 180 steps per minute, or 90 in 30 seconds. Count your number of strides for 30 seconds and try to hit 90 consistently.
2026060 tn?1328918475 Runners tend to exhale every two or four steps. Most people exhale as the left foot hits the ground, but some people exhale when the right foot hits the ground. It is the later group who seem more prone to get side stitches. Exhaling when the right foot hits the ground causes greater forces on the liver (which is on the right side just below the rib cage). So just as the liver is dropping down the diaphragm raises for the exhalation.
Avatar n tn He then said find a hobby, immerse yourself in it. Do not think about foot pain, you have no foot pain, walk away from it all and never look back. I did and the RSD was left behind. I'm not saying that something else didn't work or what-not I'm just saying it all played out for me. I'd strongly suggest you button up your mental game and take the fight to the dog. Try ignoring the pain and moving past it.
Male baby steps.. set realistic goals..
Avatar m tn It was painful but i was able to take few steps. I was able to take only two three steps for the next three days due to swelling and pain. I did complete rest for two weeks and had to start walking due to academic engagements. The first-aid guy asked me to go to doctor if i am unable to put my foot down next day. Its now been little more than 7 months. I have a small swelled-up bump on ankle (on anterior talofibular ligament, to be precise). It doesn't hurt if i press it firmly.
Avatar n tn i took my dog to the vet sunday for a rash on his head. he was started on prednisone and amoxicillin. on wednesday, we were all sitting outside and he was running around playing. his head was healing nicely. he ran about 30 feet, turned around and ran back to my son. he stopped and walked a couple of steps to get his ball which was under my son's foot. he turned and stumbled a couple of steps and hit his head on the cement.
Avatar f tn You are right, if you are a computer geek (a unix one at least) you'll understand when I say the pounds lost should do this: /home/user1/poundslost | /dev/null and not to /home/user2/poundsgained -- geez, I'm a geek. It's bad when you start programming your weight loss via a computer program. Too bad that doesn't work in real life. Back on track today, thus far. need to drink my water, I've kind of been slack on that.
Avatar f tn Hi, This could be a fungal infection. Athlete's foot, also called tinea pedis, is a fungal infection of the feet. Most people want to avoid athlete's foot because it is uncomfortable and unsightly. Left untreated, the Trichophyton and Epidermophyton organisms which cause it can spread to other parts of the body. By keeping the feet clean and dry, you can avoid athlete's foot infection rather effectively.
Avatar n tn The pain in my right foot makes me limp for a few steps after getting up. The pain is mostly in the sole of my foot and it is the the worst for the first ten steps or so then disappears. It comes and goes as I'm walking so I don't think I hurt it at the gym the other day. Anyone get foot pain...it hurts!

Avatar n tn Metatarsal pads help to take pressure off the ball of the foot. If some simple steps do not alleviate your symptoms, you should see your doctor to ensure you are receiving adequate treatment.

Avatar f tn I currently take Xyzal and Nasacort for allergies and medication for asthma (Singulair and Symbicort). I'm also taking allergy shots for cat dander and grass pollens. When I go running by wooded areas I get a horrible runny nose. My runny nose goes away about 10-15 minutes after I get inside from my run. I'm wondering if it could be from allergies or if it could be from something else. Thanks.
Avatar m tn 3 weeks ago our 8 yr old dogs left paw swelled up. We saw no injury in the pad, it wasn't sensitive to touch and she doesn't lick it. She limps for the first few steps after laying for a while, but then no limp. She uses it to hold a toys when chewing on them. Our vet said he has no idea why. She had an inflamed lymph nodes in her neck & chest and he did blood work 2 months ago but everything was ok.
15695260 tn?1549593113 Yes, there is a difference as to what is the best shoe for different people based on such things as foot type, running style and terrain that you run on most frequently. Often actually taking a few laps down the side walk in front of the store will help finalize a comfort fit.
Avatar m tn I have numbness in my larger three toes on my left foot and sometimes it my left foot hurts, but it's my right foot that really is giving me a hard time. I can hardly walk in the morning when I first get up or off my feet for a short priod of time. It hurt on the right side of my foot a couple of inches below my smaller toes near the edge. Also near the inside arches area my heal (to push it with my thumb really hurts). Also the top of my right foot burns a lot.
Avatar m tn I still suffer from the same problem, a pain kind of on top of my foot where the foot meets my shin, but feels like its in the joint. Only hurst for 10 seconds or so first thing in the morning when I put weight on it. Don't want to see a orthopedic doctor if I don't absolutely have to as it will be quite expensive.
1453990 tn?1329231426 My big problem is the front steps coming into my house. It is three steps high with no hand rail, and on several occasions, I have taken a header spinning to to the right and backwards. I seem to do OK out in the barn, and that has about 13 steps. The big difference is the handrail in the barn. I guess I'm about to rebuild the steps into the house and a handrail is going to be part of the plan. It seems that I need more "input" to do simple things.
Avatar n tn I like to stay active so I try to go walking and running in town. Halfway back from my walk it hurt unbelievably bad. My hips would not stop popping. I noticed that if I even push down on my hips it feels extremely painful. This only happens when I walk, run, or even ride horse. I don't have any clue of whats causing it and can't decide if I need to go to the doctor for it. Please help!
Avatar f tn ) and i do intervals of walking and running, more walking than running usually. a few days ago my left heel started getting very sore during my run and when i got home it was a sizeable water blister, probably from the friction of my sneaker, even tho i was wearing socks. i safely popped the blister with a sterile needle, drained it as much as possible and put a blister treatment pad over it and medical tape.
Avatar f tn I have been out of work since Wednesday for a foot injury and my job is hesitant on letting me come back concerned for my safety since i am 8 months pregnant. I'm getting nervous bc i have bills and I'm not sure how I'm going to maintain. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn I rolled my left foot in a hole while running in July '09. I have had pain in the left side of my foot in the heel area. I can apply pressure massaging the heel area and feel a sharp pain. I had mornings where my first step out of bed was agonizing pain. The more I walked the more it hurt. I have used ice/heat/ibuprofen and nothing has helped. I started wearing my running shoe to bed on my left foot. I believe it has kept my foot straight at night and allows for healing.
