Common Questions and Answers about Running foot orthotics

Avatar m tn Hi, You can try hot wax baths, wrapping, compression hose and orthotics and see if they help. Orthotics are devices that correct and support musculoskeletal abnormalities. Surgery is helpful but as rightly mentioned has its complications. http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar n tn Recently, I was prescribed orthotics (I've worn them for years, this was a new pair), and the lady who made them added what seems like a high arch. They have been causing my posterior tibial tendons to flare up, and the only relief I get is from removing them. She insists I need this support, but my other orthotics from years past have not had such a high arch, etc. I have a leg length difference, and had to convince her to put a lift on one side.
1308443 tn?1302693321 I'm 16 and for 2 years I have worn the same orthotics because I have flat feet. When I walk my feet roll in and they point out really bad. Last Monday I didn't wear my orthotics because I wore sandals. I can usually go a day without them but by 2 right foot hurt really bad. So I put in my orthotics because that has always helped before but this time it didn't. It is hurting worse now. The pain is on the bottom of my foot right in my arch.
Avatar f tn Perhaps I do need to go and revisit my podiatrist for some further advice on my footwear and orthotics. I probably need some custom shoes to fit my orthotics properly and give me support....
Avatar m tn I have great running shoes, and have specially fitted orthotics. I took two weeks off, it didn't go away. I have had two sets of x-rays, so far it isn't a stress fracture. The doc ordered a bone scan to rule out a stress fracture. Yesterday when I was running it would kill when I first started to run, but then it would go away. I'm still training on it, until I know what it is at this point.
Avatar m tn The left foot is healing on its own but the right is still uncomfortable. especially bothersome while and after running. He went to seen 3 surgeons and everyone suggested different remedies to get rid off. As he used to run for jogging so he asked surgeon to shoes for plantar fasciitis and heel spurs as he doesn't want to stop running. Surgeon suggest him to fins that shoes with minimum padding in the heel cup help out. Do you guys have any suggestion ?
Avatar m tn He said no lets see how the new softer orthotics work. My feet were not this sore 2 weeks ago. I am waiting for new orthotics, but I am not convinced they will work and the pain gets worse every day.
97615 tn?1212678589 This is located below the ankle bone on the outside of the foot but closer to the bottom of the foot than to the ankle bone. I have seen a chiropractor for an adjustment that did not work. I have seen a podiatrist that said I have tendonitis and gave me a corticosteroid shot. It had no effect. I will not do that again. I can run on it and have no other pain. There is only this electric shock sensation while flexing. Please help!!
Avatar f tn I have supple joints (all my joints, not just my feet) and am also flat footed, which I have orthotics for. I don't heal as well as I used to, my body is busy fighting Crohn's disease which saps most of my energy. In November 2009, I put some new insoles into my existing good quality walking boots.
Avatar m tn I have pain in multiple areas of the foot. When one area heals almost immedietly another area swells. This make the time I'm unable to walk very long. The pain is on the top of foot, ball of foot, and the area just beneath the front of the ankle, and in both feet. There is pain between attacks. When walking pain will show up then after awhile disappear. There is pain in the ball of foot when I put weight on them or just push them against the wall when lying.
Avatar n tn My stress fracture in my foot(4th metatarsal) occured in November 2009. Almost 14 months later, I am still in a lot of pain and cannot even think about running. I have always been an active person and an athlete and I'm about to go crazy! Initially, the stress fracture was not found because it was too small to show up on an Xray. I eventually had an MRI done and it found the fracture. I was put in a walking boot for 3 months, and then attempted weight bearing regular walking.
Avatar f tn With the use of night splints, stretches, NSAIDs and custom orthotics this problem was taken care of over a year ago. For several months now I have had progressive pain on my left foot on the medial side just before the arch. The pain is worse when I walk, but also occurs when i move it just right, put pressure on the ball of my foot, or even if one of the kids puts pressure on my lap when my feet are on the floor. Walking up or down stairs hurts as well.
Avatar f tn Nearly two years later, I am not able to walk properly or much without pain in that there is a callus under the foot in the I think "third metatarsal" area. The operation was on the 2nd toe, the toe next to my big toe. It was a small hammer toe. The result of the failed Weil is: floating hammer toe, the toe is much shorter than the other toes, so I am walking on only four toes.
Avatar n tn I eventually returned to good foot health. When you get your orthotics it is possible you are going to be breaking them in over a week and for you you might do it over a longer period of time since you aren't weight bearing. You know, start out wearing them 1 hour for the first day and 2 hours the next day and so on. This way your foot adjusts to the new pressure over a period of time. I wish you a speedy recovery and remember don't over do it.
Avatar f tn ve had x-rays, electromyleograms, taken gout rx, 2 different prs of orthotics and still no help. the left foot big toe joint gets these intensly shooting pains and worsens if I flex the toe. I take lyrica with no relief (150mgs 2-3 times daily). Told I have fibromyalgia.which I think is just a term for "no idea what is wrong with you". My sister was recently dx with MS, her only symptom was leg pain. Could I be developing MS like Montel Williams?
Avatar m tn I also had an MRI of my back as suggested by my podiatrist and read by an orthopedic surgeon for backs and he stated that my foot pain is not related to my back. I tried the Orthotics that my Dr. suggested, but they made my feet red/tender and my toes tingly/numb. I am really at a lose for what to do to make me feel better any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I am experiencing pain in both feet on the outsides. Near the cuboid bone I think. I fell about a foot off the ground about 3 weeks ago and pain won't go away. I went to doctors and they took xrays and said I do have bone spurs and he thought the pain was plantar fasciitis. On the side of my feet? Huts mostly when it is touching something and wearing shoes. Will this go away in time? Would a cortisone shot help?
Avatar m tn i have noticed that my right foot arch is very low when i stand and i also noticed that my right foot rolls in excessively when i walk. my foot gets really sore when i walk a certain amount of time and causes an excessive drag on the outside heel of my shoes . also my left foot sometimes falls when i am walking which causes me to drag the front on my shoes .i was wondering if there is any soultion to permanently fix this problem.
Avatar m tn s just in the ankle, and causes extreme pain to the heel and sometimes to the cessmoid bone area of the foot. Its root cause is a nerve in the ankle. Feels like an extremely bad stone bruise. And yes I have spoken w/ Doctors. Just looking for some one else out there who may be goin through something similar.
973741 tn?1342342773 The podiatrist will probably send you to physical therapy unless you find an old-fashiioned one who uses taping. As for inserts, putting one in just one foot will just foul up the other, and probably foul up your hips as well if the inserts aren't right for you -- and possibly even if they are (just fouled up my hips, so that's how I found that out). The longer you wait, the more likely you'll end up with a harder case to treat. Good luck with the podiatrist.
Avatar n tn 4 years ago a podiatrist removed a neuroma from my left foot, pain continued even tho orthotics were used and adjusted periodically. 5 months ago surgery was performed by orthopaedic surgeon, nerve endings from first surgery were not buried and cauliflowered, these were cut and buried, pain began again one month ago, I have flare ups with severe pain as I flex or re-flex my toes, burning and stabbing pain to a point where I cannot walk.
Avatar m tn I google searched the different foot muscle parts and I honestly believe this is the issue. The pain comes during the night (during sleep); it's like a golf ball; muscle spasm. And the pain comes when I wear rental footwear eg. ski boots, snowboarding boats, ice skates. I have seen 3 Podiatrists and they believe it is related to pronation. And one doctor evey recommended surgery. What are your thoughts?
Avatar n tn Hi Dr, About 15 years ago i sprained my left ankle ever since i have had problems with it. I have a pain on the top side of my foot over too the left side over my cuboid. When i go for a jog or a swim my foot would cramp up and my toes would turn into the up position trying to relief my pain. What would be the best way forward. Would a pair of arch supports work fine or would i have to go and see a specialist??
470872 tn?1207414069 Can Osteoporosis cause severe foot pain? I am finding that both my feet are very painful to walk on and have swelling in the mid foot area. I also have pain in the ankles. I have had an MRI scan a few weeks ago but have to wait until the end of August for my results appointment with the Orthopaedic Consultant. An untrasound did not show any sign of damage to the plantar fascia.
