593530 tn?1263847957 I brought Brody to his pediatrician last week because he was very congested. After a nose swab was tested it was determined that he has RSV. Since it's a virus it can't be treated with antibiotics, so she instructed me to get a cool mist humidifier and keep his nasal pasages clear by using saline solution. The only symptom he's had is the congestion. There's no fever, coughing, mucous coming out, etc.
Avatar n tn My son is going to be 2 months old soon and a couple of days after he was born they told me he has RSV, i have been in and out of the hospital so many times and he dose not seem to be getting any better. I have read everybody stories and How they lost their loved ones and i am so scared that it might happen to my son. Please is there anything that i can do to prevent this from getting worse???
Avatar m tn RSV ( Respiratory synctial virus) is an antibody test that detects antibodies against RSV virus thats related to a respiratory infection. Lets wait till other experts comment on your query.
Avatar f tn Take her to doctor, her oxygen level might be low, there is RSV a virus children get, she needs to get checked!!
Avatar f tn my baby has RSV. I felt sick a little before we found out she had it and then a cople days later I got a cold do you think that could be it? and thank you.
Avatar f tn This could be asthma and it could be related to the respiratory syntactical virus (RSV). However, you or your son’s doctors should not assume that asthma or cough-variant asthma is the diagnosis. Other causes of nocturnal cough should be investigated including, but not limited to, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), chronic rhinitis and sinusitis and cystic fibrosis (CF). He may need to be seen by a pediatric pulmonologist.
Avatar f tn I prego w baby 3. I never take my lil ones into public when they are lil. Newborns have no immunity to the outside world. The good thing is this time of yr it's not a high flu/RSV season. However they can still get sick. If they get sick there is nothing U can give them. Babies can get RSV which is a virus-but really just a common cold is extremely bad for babies. That's why they say to wash Ur hands before even touching the baby.
Avatar n tn For instance juvenile diabetes is thought to be triggered by a virus - the child was already set up to be vulnerable to developing it, they catch a viral illness and a few weeks later their pancreas starts to stop working and they develop signs of diabetes. Same goes with rsv, a very common respiratory virus that in infants and the elderly ( or immunosuppressed ) can cause them to be very ill.
Avatar f tn Have you been to the doctor? RSV is quite prevalent this year. And cough that is a bit relentless is a symptom. Also, unfortunately, once our respiratory tract gets irritated, coughs can linger for quite a while after a virus has dissipated. Do you have a fever? I'd see a doctor for a cough that goes on for three weeks. I'm sure you are exhausted. Sleeping with a cough is tough.

973741 tn?1342342773 but Influenza is excruciatingly painful (and RSV was not painful but is the only virus I went to an ER fearing death.) I fear Influenza so much I have been doing masks and Listerine for years but all it takes is that one exposure (RSV) during a lapse in following my own advice. I am curious whether Influenza could be eradicated in the future.
229857 tn?1319029907 Oh he also has a little rash on his face which I know is common in babies that have a cold or other type of infection... the thing im worried about is RSV??? I think thats what its called. I read online it usually shows up between 4-6 week olds and he is 4 weeks... also im worried about the dark yellow mucus being an infection like pneunomia or something.. Gosh I hate the internet!!
Avatar m tn I was in the ER a year ago because I felt like I was suffocating to death, and was hearing crackles in my chest. RSV B virus according to the nasal aspiration test lab results. (RSV-a pleasant way to die-you slowly suffocate but don't have any of the nasal sinus throat pain that comes with flu.) Xrays were negative but oxygenation rate was 85% and they gave me oxygen and an Albuterol nebulizer treatment, discharged home with antibiotics and an inhaler.
2189208 tn?1339572701 So I have a 10 month old son n im currently 5 months pregnant with my 3rd I found out it was a girl I have mixed feelings I wanted to cry.during the the ultrasound...my first born was a lil girl I lost her wen she was 6 months due to rsv n she had a copper deficiency which made her organs alot weaker so she couldn't fight the virus as well as healthy babies...
1468158 tn?1363026295 t necessarily mean your newborn will be. And babies are much more susceptible to things like the flu, which could also weaken their immune system so they get added infections like RSV (which peaks in February and hospitalized 3 of my nieces). However, because of the type the flu virus is, its possible you could still get a different strand of flu and the vaccine wouldn't protect against it. (That is why there is a new vaccine every year, because the virus changes.
1368291 tn?1299629804 Saturday he was having lots of nasal congestion and coughing so I took him to the ER. He tested positive for RSV so the last few days have been scary. We are doing a cool mist humidifier with eucalyptus oil at night, albuterol breathing treatments and keeping his nose suctioned out. I hope he gets better soon but I did learn that apparently you cant trust family to let you know...
Avatar f tn Prayers but don't stress all babies handle it diff my daughter has respiratory problems when she gets fever it never fails to hit 105 scares the crap out of me but her body handles it my neice had 103 and was a very I'll child anyway praying make sure they test for rsv and ear infections
Avatar n tn however from what I was told by several cardiologist, premature babies and babies born with a heart defect are at risk of getting this disease and having it be more severe then normally would affect a child. there are shots that the babies get once a month called synagisis (not sure if I am spelling it right) but they get it to help LESSEN the affects of RSV.
Avatar f tn t take her out until after her 2 month shots, because my 2nd daughter ended up hospitalized due to RSV and then a flu like virus from her babysitter having her out and around too many people and germs. I also don't allow visitors for the same length of time and reaon. With my son we didn't take him out for about 5 months other than appointments because he was 7 weeks premature and in the NICU for almost a month.
Avatar f tn I went to my 18 wk sonogram yesterdayand told doc my 14 month old has rsv. A respitory virus and that now i have cold like symptoms and a rash on my face. She said i coukd have parvo and they drew blood to find out for sure but i don't have results yet. She says my baby can become anemic and can need a blood transfusion while in the womb. I am so terrified.
1556646 tn?1294521754 Could it be related to a virus? He was in the ER yesterday for a high fever and the it happened today. A week after the last incident he was in the hospital for croup and then 2 days later RSV. Thanks.
Avatar f tn I am very concerned about this respiratory virus, it's hitting our state hard and by the numbers!!! I live in Atlanta Georgia (USA if course). It's been known to man kind since the 1960's but it's at its highest rate now in 2014. It's been very active since August but has left many children in the hospital and most are in the intensive care unit!!! An average of 4/5 days to stay, some even more. I am worried about my children at school a 2nd grader and a kindergartener.
