Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a common viral disease of the lungs. It usually manifest itself as a cold in adults and older children, but can cause serious problems in infants. RSV can cause lower respitory infections, breathing problems, pneumonia or even death.
According to statistics, over 125,000 infants are hospitalized annually with Respiratory Syncytial Virus, resulting in more than 500 deaths.
Does any one else have ungrateful and lazy older children? It is hard on my pregnancy with stress. My kids do not care how stressed they make me or how much I have to do to clean up after them. All I hear is I want this or that and dinner was not what I want so throw it away and make us each something different. I have one with a birthday in a week and two with birthdays in December.
My eleven year old daughter has experienced odd symptoms from about four weeks of age. It seems as though she gets everything that comes along. We are frustrated to say the least. The list seems long:
-Elevated biliruben for 5 weeks at birth
-RSV and double pneumonia at 6wks
-ongoing colds and pneumonias (no less than annual) and strep rashes
-RSV at age 2 again requiring hospitalization
-Age 2-4 spontaneous vomitting on about a 30 day cycle.

Other symptoms might include a low-grade fever, sore throat, headache, and irritability. Younger children, especially those under 2 or 3 years old, are most at risk for more severe symptoms, such as high fever, wheezing, difficulty breathing, a persistent cough, or apnea.

Hello, my daughter, age 3, had a bronchoscopy and CT scan after repeated bouts of pneumonia in the same spot, right middle lobe. This all started after a severe RSV/pneumonia hospitalization as an infant.
Her CT scan was read as "mild bronchiectasis" in the right middle lobe, same spot as her atelectasis. We know for sure that her last bout of pneumonia in march never fully cleared, b/c we did X-rays every 3 months. So she's had this atelectasis spot for quite awhile now.
He has pneumonia every other month (since birth), he has also had bronchiolitis (without RSV), bronchitis, H1N1, and most currently RSV. When he was two we removed his tonsil and adenoids in hopes to help his asthma symptoms. While it did decrease the amount of sinus infections he had, it did nothing to help any other area.
He is on Advair, 115/21 two puffs twice daily, and Allegra (for unknown allergies).
they did several echos on him for the first few months of his life, i was told this is to monitor him
I do want to make a suggestion and you really need to talk to your daughters cardiologist about this, there is an illness and I am not trying to scare you, but there is an illness out there called RSV, it is a cold in you and I and healthy children.
My son Jack has been experiencing skin irritation for the last month or so. He started off out of the blue with red spots under the skin with very little "bump' to them. I thought for sure he was getting Chx Pox but that was not it, did some research in Mumps since it looked more like that. no go there. He still experiences itching around his neck, back and arms.. His eyes have dark circles under them as well.

s been very active since August but has left many children in the hospital and most are in the intensive care unit!!! An average of 4/5 days to stay, some even more. I am worried about my children at school a 2nd grader and a kindergartener. If they are exposed, so will my youngest children, 4 year old, 3 year old, 14 month old and I am almost 34 weeks pregnant. There is no cure, there is no shot and of course antibiotics do not work against any virus.
I have a four month old son who got RSV along with the whole household in early February. We live at altitude (7200) feet, but the baby did well--- one night of observation in the hospital, where his O2 sats were 96-97 when he was being held or was upright, but would fall when sleeping or laying down into the mid-80s. So, he went on oxygen.
Two months later he is still failing every overnight oxygen study in order to get him off nighttime oxygen.
Finally a few days ago i took him in again to the ER n they found out he has a virus newborns have been getting its Called Rsv n if they would have tested it before they would have found it i was So pissed!!! So now today we got out of the childerns hospital they sent him home with oxygen but to me he still seems bad but they that he was Fine!!
My son is going to be 2 months old soon and a couple of days after he was born they told me he has RSV, i have been in and out of the hospital so many times and he dose not seem to be getting any better. I have read everybody stories and How they lost their loved ones and i am so scared that it might happen to my son. Please is there anything that i can do to prevent this from getting worse???
