551885 tn?1300383822 Does anyone else have to bring their preemies for Synagis shots still? Last month was supposed to be the last but they called a couple of weeks ago and told us that half the kids that are coming in sick are testing positive for RSV and if Cassidy got it she would go back to the NICU again so I guess this month will be the last.
Avatar f tn That's so scary!!!!!! I didn't even know what RSV was until I read forums about preemies going out. Now I'm freaking out!!! My son was born early and he always breathes fast then slow. He's working on regulating his breathing so I can't tell if that's his normal breathing or not. A lot of the symptoms are stuff that he does normally so it's extra scary. In Hawaii the rsv season is November to April and he was born November 14.
Avatar f tn My little boy was born at 36 weeks and was in good health. His first year has been difficult. RSV. Milk protein allergies and eczema. Which pediatrician attributes to being early. He will be a year old on the 10th and he is off all medications and is slowly switching to plain old milk. Things will be fine. Being I. The hospital you will have the best care.
Avatar n tn My daughter was 7 weeks early. Since she was a premature the Dr.s made it mandatory she get RSV shots. This helps the child from getting ill, It sound like if your child did not get these shots he might be getting symptoms of RSV. Here are some I know of: having a simple clear runny nose and occasional cough that can be treated at home, to severe difficulty breathing that may require hospitalization. Other symptoms might include a low-grade fever, sore throat, headache, and irritability.
Avatar n tn not to try to scare you but my little one who has a heart conditon got it when he was 5 weeks old and ended up in the hospital for 15 days. then he started to recieve the shots. we actually ahd a nurse come to the house to give it. she picked it up and things like that. I didn't work. the shots are for the winter time only. I thikn there are six one a month. good luck and enjoy your little bundle. Aren't the doctors at choldrens boston great. we had Dr.

Avatar f tn my previous baby was born at 33weeks and my current pregnancy I am 28 weeks I had an ultrasound due to my previous premature baby and I was told my cervix is funnelling in a v shape and the closed part is 1cm I have had two steroid shots for baby's lungs and been prescribed progesterone 200mg pessaries to take twice a day I wanted to know if this helps how it benifted you I don't now and haven't been told if it'll stop baby from coming early or at least how early what it'l
Avatar f tn These weekly shots help to desensitize his immune system to pollens/cat dander/molds and dust mites. My daughter has take these shots for a number of years and they helped reduce her allergy/asthma symptoms substantially. It is more work, but well worth it if it works well for your child.
Avatar n tn t much they can do because of the risk of infection, bit they did slow it down to make time for steroid shots for her before she made her grand entrance to ensure proper lung development
Avatar f tn I was born a month early, I only weighted 4 LBS 9 Oz, and I was discharged after 24 hours, but my mom had some complications during the birth so she had to stay for 2 weeks in the hospital, which meant so did I.
Avatar f tn I was pregnant with twins. Lost my son at 23 weeks. Delivered my daughter at 27weeks. She'll be 2 in aug. We were in the NICU for 3 months. You can expect baby to get a couple blood transfusions and be on a ventilator for at least a month. Feeding tube for almost your whole stay. Any other questions just ask. :) everything will be fine. The alarms will scare the crap out of you every time. Dont worry. Nurse comes in every time it goes off.
593530 tn?1263847957 my daugter is 4 weeks old and she got RSV. She was hospitalized for 3 days and was being monitored for her oxygen levels. She is still coughing a lot and its hard to watch her. Doc said it can take upto a month or 2 to fully recover.
Avatar f tn Those babies are usually fine and are in the hospital for at longest a week so they can make sure they know how to eat. My son was a preemie. As far as weight every baby is different if I were to guess I would say around 4 and a half pounds.
Avatar n tn My son is going to be 2 months old soon and a couple of days after he was born they told me he has RSV, i have been in and out of the hospital so many times and he dose not seem to be getting any better. I have read everybody stories and How they lost their loved ones and i am so scared that it might happen to my son. Please is there anything that i can do to prevent this from getting worse???

1368291 tn?1299629804 Saturday he was having lots of nasal congestion and coughing so I took him to the ER. He tested positive for RSV so the last few days have been scary. We are doing a cool mist humidifier with eucalyptus oil at night, albuterol breathing treatments and keeping his nose suctioned out. I hope he gets better soon but I did learn that apparently you cant trust family to let you know...

Also with my first child i wrk very hard n stressed at my job n which now im a stay at home mom....
Avatar n tn there are shots that the babies get once a month called synagisis (not sure if I am spelling it right) but they get it to help LESSEN the affects of RSV. insurance companies do usually cover them the shots are once a month for the winter season and they get it for the first 2 years of their lives. my son got RSV when he was 5 weeks old, he didn't get his first shot yet and he was really really ill.
Avatar f tn If you have time the doc can give you a series of steroid shots for the babies lungs. Also, you have to expect that the baby will be in the hospital until your due date. Like I said, it's a very har thing to go through, and I pray I won't have to to it again myself. You will make it through it though. God bless you.
Avatar f tn Finally a few days ago i took him in again to the ER n they found out he has a virus newborns have been getting its Called Rsv n if they would have tested it before they would have found it i was So pissed!!! So now today we got out of the childerns hospital they sent him home with oxygen but to me he still seems bad but they that he was Fine!!
11715504 tn?1422286415 Second time in a row I'm at the hospital for blood gushing out. I'm 26 weeks and I Will be entering my third trimester tomorrow. My cervix is still closed but he said it's bleeding which is not a very good thing I'm so worried because this has been a problem since March and I need some closure. Any of you ladies gone through the same thing and didn't have a preemie? Last week I had to get steroid shots to mature his lungs just in case he wants to come early.
Avatar m tn In the paper in the American Journal for Clinical Nutrition , published ahead of print March 31st 2010 you find on the forth page in fig 2 the graph of plasma concentrations of RSV as a function of time in these humans to be dose dependent and having for 500mg (quite a high dose!) found the peak concentration of original RSV at 90min after dosing to be 14.4 nanograms/ml or 14.4 micrograms/liter. Knowing the molecular weight of RSV to be 228g/Mol this translates into 14.
Avatar f tn My daughter has been sick for three and a half weeks now. Fever throwing up and diarrea for first week, then fever and diarrea the next week. Then fever up to 104 and deydration the next took her to the ER they put her on IVs but could not find whats wrong. She has a history of RSV could this be what it is again. I dont know what o do?
Avatar m tn I would hold off as long as possible and have them give you celestone shots for the babies lungs just in case you go before 38 weeks and they can not stop you! You have to have two shots 24 hours apart. No it is not too late if the dr's say that! It does help and that is why my 3rd came home so early and healthy. I am not sure why they would not let you go past your due date cuz of your blood type! That makes no since!! I hav enever heard that nor read it.
566175 tn?1278430472 m going to the dr. for injection training and blood work. My SIL told me when they trained her hubby on how to give injections, they made him practice on her bum several times, using saline salution/water. =( And the blood work is part of the quad screen test that checks for birth defects and downs, etc. They say this test is less accurate with twins, but I guess I'll give it a go anyway as my dr suggested, hoping for a little reassurance if nothing else.
801496 tn?1262575377 They are still very nervous about something happening to their baby. Preemies are at a very high risk for contracting RSV, and can die from a virus that would cause a cold in a full term baby. There are lots of things you can do to help preemie parents, so just be creative. Also, you may have to be a bit pushy with them, and rather than asking "what can I do?" you may have to just tell them "I'm going to xyz...
