Hi there, I am on n Post Exposure Prophylaxis (nPEP) following my exposure 17 days ago. I have to take them for 28 days. The anxiety is killing me. When is the earliest date I can take an HIV test. I am in South Africa one of the countries with the highest HIV infection rates in the world and PCR is allowed. Will PCR give me a good indication of my status? at how many days post exposure? SECONDLY when is the earliest for an Elisa TEST.
Finally a few days ago i took him in again to the ER n they found out he has a virus newborns have been getting its Called Rsv n if they would have tested it before they would have found it i was So pissed!!! So now today we got out of the childerns hospital they sent him home with oxygen but to me he still seems bad but they that he was Fine!!
My son is going to be 2 months old soon and a couple of days after he was born they told me he has RSV, i have been in and out of the hospital so many times and he dose not seem to be getting any better. I have read everybody stories and How they lost their loved ones and i am so scared that it might happen to my son. Please is there anything that i can do to prevent this from getting worse???
We used to give it life-long but now stop after 1 year. The use of the newer oral agents as monotherapy for prophylaxis has proven effective.

So, within 2 hours of the incident, I was in the ER talking to the doctor and explaining what had happened and told him I wanted the post exposure prophylaxis since I dont do this often and this is a one time thing, and I dont want to get HIV or HSV for a stupid moment that didn't even include actual sex, just momentary rubbing genitals together.
1) Does testing under any type of pneumonia viral/bacterial or RSV can give me a false negative? 2) Does being tested under viral pneumonia antivirals, RSV antivirals, iv antibiotics or any other pneumonia medication can also give me a false negative? Thank you.
So you had an episode of unprotected vaginal sex with a partner at risk. If she had HIV, the average risk of transmission is somewhere around 1 in 2,000 -- perhaps lower in this case, if the exposure time was short after the condom broke. I took my 4 week old to the ER and they told me he has RSV. They just gave me a paper on it, They didn't really tell me what to do except suction out his nose. I read the paper ad it told me that in mild disease that no specific treatment is necessary. So I guess he is only a mild case, but I don't know how to tell if he is getting worse. I read on another site that family history of asthma puts him at a higher risk for becoming a severe case. I am know wen he is getting worse?
