Avatar f tn When my 4 year old had RSV when he was 5 weeks old, also on a vent for 11 days, (he had RSV a second time when he was 2 1/2 in the hospital 5 days no vent.) they said he could end up having asthma. Every time we go see the pulmonologist *sorry if I spelled it wrong, they ask how often does he couh at night. None, doen't cough in the day time either only when he is sick. So from what I was told and understand it does sound like he has asthma.
Avatar n tn I am assuming that the WPW was ablated and if so then he is at low risk for recurrence of the SVT. If ablation was not undertaken, and he is on medications for prevention, then I would say he still can undergo routine day care with low risk of recurrence.
Avatar n tn He was okay to come home then he was 5 weeks old and got really ill with the RSV and was in the hospital and then heart failure then the surgery then infection and more illness. he does have pulmomary issues partly because my hubby has asthma and the ithers they are saying is from bing on a ventilator at such a young age. Please make sure he gets the synagisis shot.(it helps lesson the rsv in a child with a heart issue and premature babies.
Avatar n tn The ER did a catheder culture and blood but found nothing. Hes regular pediatric always says viral. My question is what would cause high fevers all the time with no answer and would you recommened a speacialist in pediartics?
Avatar m tn I have a four month old son who got RSV along with the whole household in early February. We live at altitude (7200) feet, but the baby did well--- one night of observation in the hospital, where his O2 sats were 96-97 when he was being held or was upright, but would fall when sleeping or laying down into the mid-80s. So, he went on oxygen. Two months later he is still failing every overnight oxygen study in order to get him off nighttime oxygen.
Avatar f tn I took my 4 week old to the ER and they told me he has RSV. They just gave me a paper on it, They didn't really tell me what to do except suction out his nose. I read the paper ad it told me that in mild disease that no specific treatment is necessary. So I guess he is only a mild case, but I don't know how to tell if he is getting worse. I read on another site that family history of asthma puts him at a higher risk for becoming a severe case. I am know wen he is getting worse?
Avatar f tn She did have an ear infection and we were also directed to make an appointment with a pediatric cardiologist. Forgive me as I'm still new with these terms. She was diagnosed with mild Aortic Valve Stenosis and mild Aortic Insufficiency with Ascending Aorta Dilation. Right now, since it's mild, we were told to just have her back in 6 months for another check up. No restrictions. What are we in for? We were in total shock. We kept telling ourselves it would be nothing.
Avatar f tn Hello, my daughter, age 3, had a bronchoscopy and CT scan after repeated bouts of pneumonia in the same spot, right middle lobe. This all started after a severe RSV/pneumonia hospitalization as an infant. Her CT scan was read as "mild bronchiectasis" in the right middle lobe, same spot as her atelectasis. We know for sure that her last bout of pneumonia in march never fully cleared, b/c we did X-rays every 3 months. So she's had this atelectasis spot for quite awhile now.
Avatar m tn I guess I just assumed a lot more people than this had the disease. In this forum alone, there seems to be boatloads of people using Olysio and Sovaldi and also both by themselves. With these numbers it just doesn't seem like there is going to be this mass histeria of people breaking down their Dr's office doors when Ledipasvir comes out like so many insurance companies would have you believe. An estimated 3.
Avatar n tn they did several echos on him for the first few months of his life, i was told this is to monitor him I do want to make a suggestion and you really need to talk to your daughters cardiologist about this, there is an illness and I am not trying to scare you, but there is an illness out there called RSV, it is a cold in you and I and healthy children.
Avatar n tn We are in NC and fortunately have been referred to a great pediatric Endo at Duke. I have seen mention of Pediatric Endo at Texas Childrens Hospital (not sure how far that is for you). We will be starting medication as soon as our local pharmacy can get it in. I hope she responds well. I have been looking into the possibility of Thyroidectomy or Radioiodine Treatment if indicated.
Avatar f tn RSV is a resportory disease that starts as a common cold and then starts to shot down the resportory system very scary. We finally found out what it was that my daughter had. She had strep in the stomach and intestines. Instead of the strep staying in her throat she swallowed it. She got worse that ever after I posted this, so I brought her to a different hospital and they figured it out. thanks for responding.
Avatar m tn Also, it is not the usual treatment for pediatric cough of any origin as situation needing these drugs is rare in pediatric population. Also, chronic cough in a child may not have a neurological component. It may be due to low vitamin B 12, reflux or due to allergy. If it is diagnosed to be a neurological cough then please consult a neurologist regarding the dosing as a close monitoring of drug is required in pediatric population. Please do not self medicate. Take care!
Avatar f tn This nightmare sounds like my last child's medical history. I am truly sorry you are living through this nightmare. My last (3rd ) child had very similar issues to that of your son. My first question is did you take your son to a pediatric ER or to a pediatric ER such as one connected to a solely pediatric hospital? the difference in our story and the strides we gained, came from our contact with an academic teaching hospital that was pediatric in nature. Children are NOT baby adults.
Avatar f tn My 11 week has rsv .. He was full term .. Has any other mother had this in a infant ..

Avatar n tn My son is going to be 2 months old soon and a couple of days after he was born they told me he has RSV, i have been in and out of the hospital so many times and he dose not seem to be getting any better. I have read everybody stories and How they lost their loved ones and i am so scared that it might happen to my son. Please is there anything that i can do to prevent this from getting worse???
593530 tn?1263847957 I brought Brody to his pediatrician last week because he was very congested. After a nose swab was tested it was determined that he has RSV. Since it's a virus it can't be treated with antibiotics, so she instructed me to get a cool mist humidifier and keep his nasal pasages clear by using saline solution. The only symptom he's had is the congestion. There's no fever, coughing, mucous coming out, etc.
1368291 tn?1299629804 Saturday he was having lots of nasal congestion and coughing so I took him to the ER. He tested positive for RSV so the last few days have been scary. We are doing a cool mist humidifier with eucalyptus oil at night, albuterol breathing treatments and keeping his nose suctioned out. I hope he gets better soon but I did learn that apparently you cant trust family to let you know...
Avatar f tn She has always been very healthy, she rarely get ill. She had RSV at 5 weeks, acid reflux at birth she does have Von Wilderbrand Disease we found that out when she was 4. Other then that she has no other health issues. I just want to know how to go about getting her emotions in control before she ends up labeled in school as a problem child. Please give me some direction in where to start.
Avatar f tn My son is 7 years old has had pneumonia at LEAST 5 times in his life (will find my copies of his record which Ihave to prove it)after having the vaccine, rsv twice before he was 1 year old after having the vaccine, has had a bronchoscopy twice once at 10mos old and one at 5 years old, first one to determine diagnosis second to receive prognosis over time. Today he is 7 with pneumonia again home on Omnicef, spitting out so I can see blood tinged dark green mucous.
306245 tn?1244384967 (he does have asthma) Asthma doctor did a bronchoscopy to rule out anatomic obstruction and everything was nornal Mild increase secreations, but this maybe cause from him havign RSV 2 weeks prior (2nd bout of RSV for him).and he DOES NOT have any wheezing. execpt when he is sick.but he can't run without turning blue sometimes. he walks or runs and gets tired. rapid breathing many many times plus it is loud. he does have left sided chest pains and a few times has grab there to complain.
Avatar n tn You probably need to have this cleared up in the next few days! She may or may not have hyperthyroid, call your pediatrician today if you still have not heard about the endo, they need to call the endo directly, the one on call to get advice. If she is hyperthyroid, then it can be a few things, yes she is young but it doesn't rule it out.
Avatar f tn This needs to be monitored with labs at least 1-2 x / year. Would consult with a pediatric endocrinologist to evaluate the child to ensure there are no other considerations.
Avatar f tn A pediatric cardiologist first studies cardiology and then he goes onto a secondary education in pediatric cardiology which the adult cardiologists do not study. HBP can be caused by a lot of things from heart issues to "White Coat Syndrome". Many people have a problem keeping their BP down when walking into the doctor's office. Your son's blood pressure could be a result of the fears he sees you going through.
