1497278 tn?1289708073 Ritalin still exists???? Ritalin was basically banned from pharmacies in Puerto Rico!! Ritalin is a very dangerous drug, it causes damages to the nervous system, it makes your body retain water and it makes people to have nervous tics.
939031 tn?1289956654 I like the sound of the long-acting Ritalin in the morning - which is the main time I need it - just so I can get through my work shift!! I don't care if I crash the rest of the day - just got to keep that paycheck coming in and those benefits!! Sounds like you had a similar experience with Ritalin to what I had with Provigil. The MD started me out at 200 mg!! Top dose! Sheesh, I had so much energy - felt like I could fly! Felt like I had had 20 cups of coffee!! Way too jittery.
Avatar n tn My son who is 9 yrs old has started Vyvanse since January of this year. He is currently on about 25 mg of Vyvanse. The only thing that I don't like about it is that it takes a long time to kick in, like about 2.5 hours for my son. So often in the morning he will seem unfocused so will not do well during early 8am test. His doctor and I discussed trying Ritalin first in the morning and then adding Vyvanse, which is the reverse of what many people do.
Avatar m tn Hi, I recently was diagnosed with Narcolepsy. Im 15 years old and for the past couple years Ive been struggling with falling asleep ALL the time. Ive gained quite a bit of weight, and thats basically ruined my life. I just started treatment about a week ago. I would take Ritalin LA first thing after breakfast, and then 3 more short acting 10ml doses throughout the day "as needed".
Avatar n tn Kennedy, My teenage son , who has high functioning autism, has much better control over his hyper, inappropriate social behavior when he takes ritalin. Over the past 10 years, we have tried all types of stimulants, including long lasting, but recently made a full circle back to regular ritalin-- two 20mg doses a day. The problem is that after the second dose wears off, more doesn't work--it just causes anxiety. What could we use after 4:00pm to keep him calm without dulling him?
Avatar n tn When he is on the he is quiet, mild mannered, compassionate, he pays attention, stays seated, etc... Also, we have tried the long acting meds. He has been on Ritalin LA and Concerta. For some reason his body metabolizes the meds just as if they were not long acting. We had better results with the Concerta but he had a hard time coming off of it. He was moody and mean which was not like him at all. He also had a very hard time falling asleep.

2164295 tn?1337019528 I am currently taking Vyvanse 70mg in the morning, 10mg of Adderall (short acting) in the evening, and trying to implement a daily nap schedule. Over the last year the cataplexy I experience has increased and my muscle tone has decreased. I lost my job in September of 2011, because I was having such difficulty getting up to go to work and staying awake at work. I have tried taking Wellbutrin XL for the cataplexy but I don't think it has really done much.
Avatar f tn The sim meds will work much better than stratera. Then your choice is between the long acting ones like Vyvanse or short acting (take as needed) like ritalin. If you need any more info on the meds, let me know.
Avatar n tn Hi. I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. What insulin is he using? If he's not using NPH as his long acting insulin, skipping meals isn't as big of deal. Something like Lantus or Levemir as the long acting would work fine, then for meals when he can eat he would just give a bolus shot with Novolog or some other fast acting.

One type are the methylphenidates such as Ritalin.  These are shorter acting duration - up to 4 hours and many times are used on an as needed basis by adults.  There are also the longer acting versions such as Ritalin LA or Concerta which can last 8 to 10 hours.  Many times these are used by people with ADD because they don’t need the stronger stim meds that people with ADHD might require.
Avatar n tn Hello, Angie. KatEyes is correct as always. If you are getting good sleep but are still exhausted inthe morning, you may have a sleep disorder. Talk to your doctor about a sleep study. If you don't have a sleep disorder then short acting Adderall or Ritalin will wake you up with an hour or so. If you're fatigued all day long, then a longer acting form of Adderall and Ritalin would work. Then, you set your alarm for two hours before you have to get up.
Avatar f tn this dr wants me to go up 10 mg a week till i reach 60...i dont know about that..he switched my adderall to ritalin for my refractory depression and i toook 2nd pill thsi morning but im afraif im gonna be allegic to it,u all know my fears..i alos haved somazation syndrome and hyperchrodriac..which this dr told me are 2 differnet things..he said to still enjoy my 2 or 3 beers,,he has been a pshychtrist for over 50 years..i read some good reviews on people using ritalin for depression...
11305938 tn?1417998533 ) She switched me from instant release ritalin to adderall xr which is long acting. I was wondering if anyone has found that one wworks better for them with the fatigue? Also, the bottle says to take it at night which seems unusual to me. Would this be an error or is it commonly prescribed to take at night?
Avatar n tn First a correction, I found a better site that lists all the dosages. Its - http://www.rxlist.com/adderall-xr-capsules-drug.htm. Adderall XR is normally used so that kids don't have to go to the nurse's office and take the short acting ritalin. Also as I first said it tends to soften the initial action. Heck, Ritalin could be taken 8 times a day - some people probably do. The question is what's best for your child and this is why you are going through a doctor.
Avatar n tn Ritalin is a stimulant and if he is abusing it, that can cause so many problems. Not sure why he was put on it either with a history of drug use and now drinking too. Bad bad combo, with ritalin and alcohol. What did he say when you told him you can't be with him if he keeps drinking and abusing the ritalin? I am sorry your going through this right now, but it sounds like you need to take care of yourself first. Does he show any signs of wanting to quit?
429700 tn?1308007823 Has anyone taken Ritalin for the MS fatigue and/or cognitive issues? I've just been prescribed this drug in place of the Provigil that my insurance company won't cover.
Avatar n tn i cant even study in silence anymore becuase my stomach keeps acting up, and its really distracting. i like to think it has something to do with my taking ritalin for my adhd but ive been taking it for years. help!
6726276 tn?1421126668 Klonopin is the longest acting benzo (stays in your system for many days) whereas Ativan is one of the shortest acting benzos. Xanax is another short-acting benzo (4 hrs). All of them work basically the same. I never heard of a benzo creating a stimulating effect before. You might expect that from ritalin, adderall and SSRI anti-depressants (which can cause agitation or mania in BP persons).
Avatar f tn ve decided (and sent an email) to talk to the NP at the pain clinic about switching me over to a long-acting medication for my pain. I'm thinking it will give me better relief. Even though I'm on a high dose now (45 mg. every 4 hours of oxycodone,) my pain seems to return after 2 to 3 hours. And I did have a bad flare-up this weekend; most likely due to the fact I ran low on medication due to my script not coming in the mail. Now it's a question of which medication???
Avatar f tn I took Ritalin in the beginning and it was a major shock. It worked - however for not that long - for only one to two hours. Then poof I was back to my normal not being able to concentrate because of my weird moods again. I have not tried Adderall or Concerta because my doctor recommended a drug called Vvyanse but I found it works for alot longer than the Ritalin. Its only in the one pill instead of the multiple pills (Ritalin).
2083581 tn?1332307861 I currently use Ritalin for ADD and it also helps depression. Does anyone have suggestions for supplementing this with another drug. I have heard wellbutrin works well with Ritalin but I would like to here from someone with experience. Ritalin is the only drug that has ever helped me but when it wears off I am depressed again. (and I have tried Concerta and did like it) Any suggestions?
1020229 tn?1251471842 If she does ADHD, ask for a stimulant such as long acting Ritalin. You also need to make sure that she has a cleas diet with no sugar, no artificial sweetner, no artificial color, no preservatives and cooked from fressh ingredients. Make sure that she gets lots and lots of sleep. Make sure that she gets lot of exercise and sunshine. Supplement her diest with vitamins and Omega 3 (fish oil).
