Ritalin for ocd

Common Questions and Answers about Ritalin for ocd

ritalin

Avatar m tn It depends when he is whiney and obsessive. Ritalin is only good for a maximum of 4 hours. If this is happening towards the end of this time, then this sounds like fairly normal adhd behavior. In that anxiety is a very normal co-occurance and he sounds pretty anxious. I think it is more likely that he is underdosed then overdosed, but really don't have enough info yet to tell.
Avatar n tn my dr just put me on sonata for sleep and i am being treated for add w/ritalin,lamictal for bpd, wellbrutrin depression, and nerourotin for nerve pain and a few days ago i started grinding my teeth together, looks like i am chewing gum all the time and i also am making grunting sounds.
Avatar m tn Ritalin can cause temporary movement disorders such as akathesia (which can be treated with a side effect pill). However on occassion it can also cause some long term movement disorders which include at times tardive dyskinesia (and a variant of it called tardive tourretism) for more information google "Patient Education Tardive Dyskinesia" (as the site itself says "some of these medications may be medically neccessary").
Avatar f tn Hey Sara, thought I might be able to help because I've had ADHD my whole life, and OCD (but since OCD has been severe in my immediate family, this was addressed at a very young age.) Many people confuse OCD with cleanliness, but this is not always the case. However, I have never met another patient of OCD who has ever reported living in a messy room per se- there is usually some overarching form of organization to it even if it appears messy. Self-living space is a good indicator of OCD.
Avatar f tn My five year old son was diagnosed with ADHD, OCD, ODD and Anxiety last year after he was BAKER ACTED for saying he wanted to kill himself. They started and currently have him taking Zoloft 25mg and Metadate 10mg, they are not working. When he takes the two together whether at the same time or at separate hours he is worse off then when we started. It seems like they counter act each other.
Avatar f tn My 7 year old was diagnosed with OCD a few months ago and is on Prozac. He doesn't do any counting or hand washing, nor do things have to be in any particular order, he just has bad thought ocd. He has to confess everything to me even it happened a year ago. And he will say to me "I just thought you are a pin head, but I don't think that anymore". He can't keep any of his thoughts to himself. He is now on Prozac and I'm wondering if it is making him hyper.
Avatar m tn I tried every thing I the book, Ritalin works for me but I will not take it for fear of losing my job. I have a question regarding something that seemed to work but it's making me nervous. I am a male in my thirties. My doc currently put me on 75mg of Wellbutrn last month, I took it for 2 straight weeks and was feeling focused. However I stopped because of fear of seizures. I never had a seizure , but I'm worried I may get one while driving in the highway or with my family.
Avatar f tn Ritalin is very popular for ADD/ADHD. Celexa is an SSRI which is used for depression and can also be used to treat OCD. Once again, I am no doctor, but I would recommend getting a second opinion, maybe more thorough. How many times did your son see the psychiatrist? If he made all those diagnosis on a single visit, I would a little hesitant. I have learned to always question doctors until you find one you are comfortable with and trust.
Avatar f tn My sister has been diagnosed with Bi Polar disorder, and her doctor has prescribed her ritalin? I haven't heard of this being used for this disorder before? Is this an extreme measure to quickly before other natural methods have been tried??
2083581 tn?1332307861 I currently use Ritalin for ADD and it also helps depression. Does anyone have suggestions for supplementing this with another drug. I have heard wellbutrin works well with Ritalin but I would like to here from someone with experience. Ritalin is the only drug that has ever helped me but when it wears off I am depressed again. (and I have tried Concerta and did like it) Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever been prescribed Ritalin for Migraines? What is the thought about this? I am looking for alternative approaches for my chronic migraines, usually 2 migraines per week, 1 of which is completely debilitating. I tried a 5mg dose of Ritalin (1x day) for a week and it was a migraine free week (despite high stress and sleep deprivation due to work).
Avatar n tn We switched to Tenex which worked much better - took away the hyperactivity and impulsivity - does nothing for inattentativeness. It mayhelp OCD because it is used for tic disorders which always have an OCD component.
Avatar f tn Tried ritalin (normal), ritalin SR, Concerta and amphetamine. Concerta gave me something but felt something missing, normal ritalin was terrible, OD and came into "cocain waves" (very high, and straight to the bottom), amph gave me more but I didnĀ“t eat, and felt a bit anxious, ritalin SR was, and is my favourite, works as a charm.
Avatar n tn I TOOK RITALIN FOR ABOUT 4 YEARS AND HAVE HAD IRREGULAR HEART RHYTHMNS EVEN THOUGH I HAVE BEEN TOLD I AM HEALTHY FOR THE MOST PART----SO RITALIN CAN SCREW ABOUT YOUR HEART ---SOMETIMES----IN SOME PEOPLE---I MIGHT BE VERY SENSITIVE TO RITALIN NOW AND DOCTOR IS DETOXING ME FOR 2 MONTHS FROM RITALIN----I USED TO HAVE CAFFEINE WITH RITALIN A LOT-TERRIBLE IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar m tn And you stayed on the medications at least 4 weeks to make sure they didn't work for you? What about Wellbutrin? I take Wellbutrin for OCD and it works well for me. Might be worth a try. Also, learning how to deal with the thoughts is very important. Of course you need to find a psychologist that teaches CBT and that you like and feel you are getting something from.
Avatar n tn I'm hoping someone here can help, perhaps a Ph.D. or someone with knowledge/experience of medicines-- I have been diagnosed ADHD since I was a little kid (early grade school) and diagnosed with social anxiety at 17yrs old (towards the end of high school). I've been on and off multiple medicines for both (I've been on 5-10 different drugs; see my personal feedback below on some of the meds if you are interested in that information). I also very much think I have OCD.
Avatar f tn I am also puzzled why any Doctor would want to give a child a drug like Ritalin simply for him to focus, this is exactly the problem that is mentioned in the above post ..
Avatar f tn m a naturally anxious person.. and going on something like Adderall or Ritalin is out of the question... unless maybe if I have to drive somewhere that day. Is there any way to correct the condition, like with antidepresants?
Avatar n tn We tried the usual medicines. Ritalin, Strattera, Adderall, Concerta, etc...nothing seemed to work but when all was said and done, my son developed vocal tics. These haven't gone away for the last couple of years. He is now on Tenex, and Clonidine, for both the ADHD and the tics. We've noticed that when he's getting sick, the tics are at it full force. And within the last 3 months he's had to obsessively go to the bathroom.

2164295 tn?1337019528 He takes Ritalin for the narcolepsy and clomipramine (generic for Anafranil) for the cataplexy. The Ritalin helps, but he can only take 3 pills a day (insurance won't approve more), and he really needs at least 2 more a day to stay awake and function. He has bad nightmares and yells out in his sleep when he does not have the clomipramine.
968560 tn?1307451498 I know that they give adderol and ritalin for fatigue and concentration, which by the way are both schedule II class drugs. although they are both very effective for fatigue brain fog due to tx.but they have a very high abuse potential and in texas, where I live an MD can have a class v through class III schedule license, but in order to write for class II substances he must apply and be granted a special license to write for class a II substance.
Avatar m tn Hi there...sorry to butt in but for Wellbutrin it usually takes 4 to 6 weeks before you really see benefits. But as Sandman said, it usually isn't prescribed for ADD but rather OCD and anxiety. I take it for OCD. Is your doctor trying to treat your racing thoughts thinking that perhaps you have OCD as well as ADD?
