ritalin for depression and anxiety

I currently use Ritalin for ADD and it also helps depression. Does anyone have suggestions for supplementing this with another drug. I have heard wellbutrin works well with Ritalin but I would like to here from someone with experience. Ritalin is the only drug that has ever helped me but when it wears off I am depressed again. (and I have tried Concerta and did like it) Any suggestions?

I told my doctor and she put me on Ritalin and it has helped me considerably but the only drawback is that I have anxiety issues and Ritalin can flare it up for me which means I have to stop taking it for a day or so or cut back until my depression worsens. For right now Ritalin seems to be the only drug that has helped with my depression and I am no longer taking any antidepressants now. I just take Clonazepam for my anxiety. Hope this helps you.

My doc gave me Ritalin for ADD and Effexor for depression but this last one gave me too many side effects and I stopped taking it. Now he switched me to Wellbutrin (150 mg once a day) and 30 mg Ritalin. I have felt sick but am not sure if it is the withdrawal effects from stopping Effexor or the mixture of Wellbutrin and Ritalin. I feel brain spasms, especially in the back of my head. Today I did not take the Ritalin and felt no spasms.

i have anxiety,depression,some add and hyperchrodic..was switched from adderall to ritain started ritalin yesterday.i love my new dr he is an olser guy...said i could still have my couple beers with my meds....how long does ritalin take to work im on 10 mg but could take another 10 in the afternoon i was on 30 mg adderall i heard ritalin is stronger..im scared i will be allegic to ritalin as im afraid i will allergic to all new meds..

i read some good reviews on people using ritalin for depression...and i have the xanax to curb my anxiety....i just dont know if i can up my proxac to 60 mg how llong would i notice before upping the prozc if its gonna help and should i be worried about being allergic to ritalin....its made differnet than the adderall...

I have ADD and moderate/major depression and was wondering if there are others out there with these problems and if so what medications are you taking that help. Ritalin makes me nuts but adderall worked for me better with a little less side effects. Still stimulants makes my already high anxiety worse but still I do think I need them. Is there some kind of balance with other meds that would allow me to take stimulants without feeling so anxious?

No ritalin is not a steroid. Its easy to google it and see that. If you do have ADHD, then the caffine should not be a problem, but that is really something that you want to talk over with your doctor.

hi since march 3 i have been on prozac and xanax i have depression and anxiety...im a bit bettter but my dr said prozac is very stimulating and im not finding that im still depressed and dragging around....are others on prozac and xanxax with luck.....dr is thinking of adding a amphetimine when i next go back to see him...im thinking like ritalin or something....its been almost a month shouldnt i feel better...does xanax make the prozac not help with depression or something?

If you discontinue the Lamictal and Wellbutrin, you are much more likely to relapse into a severe depression. The Ritalin alone is not going to fix that. Stimulants like Ritalin can actually make bipolar disorder worse when used alone. Did your therapist recommend discontinuing the Lamictal and Wellbutrin? Are you discontinuing the medications under a doctor's supervision?

At last, my current question, I was hospitalized again a couple of weeks ago for depression. I had been on Cymbalta and Wellbutrin, with clonazapam for anxiety and sleep, and my depression to me seemed th worst it has ever been. The new doc at the new hospital, with my regular psychiatrist's approval decreased my wellbutrin, and added ritalin at first a tiny dose and then a little more. I don't believe I have ever felt better in my life.

t think this is normal, even if I am on Ritalin. is it possible that this is linked to anxiety or depression (which are chronic issues)?

Hi all, Yes anxiety can happen with ADD, me and my daughters have ADD, my eldest daughter gets anxiety to the stage where she was pulling her hair out, I was giving her rescue remedy and councelling to try to help and I did not want her to be put on an anti anxiety medication, what has seemed to help was changing her medication, she was on Ritalin but has now been put on a slow realease Concerta at a much higher does.

I am looking for alternative approaches for my chronic migraines, usually 2 migraines per week, 1 of which is completely debilitating. I tried a 5mg dose of Ritalin (1x day) for a week and it was a migraine free week (despite high stress and sleep deprivation due to work). Only a small portion of depression sufferers have Doapamine related depression. Odds are that your depression is not related to Doapamine levels. If you must pay cash for your AD meds, may I suggest buying your meds from an online Canadian pharmacy.

he believes Ritalin is helping him, but clearly it’s no longer working for him. Now he’s depressed, and there’s a possibility it will get worse, and he won’t be able to successfully continue school if he continues. It’s possible that other drugs may help him more than Ritalin at this point. I’m not a psychiatrist, so can’t speak to the efficacy of other drugs.
