risperidone weight

i have had the issue of high blood pressure, which i am taking meds for, which i believe was from my last anti psychotic, i also had severe weight gain. Since i have stopped, my blood pressure is down, thanks to my meds, as well as i have lost atleast 16lbs since i have stopped. Please let me know your thoughts. o, i also take a mood stabilizer, and an antidepressant. and a sleep aid.

She has only been on the serequel 2 days and it is not helping. The risperidone was stopped immediately because of weight gain. I need some suggestions on what we can do. HELP! I am tired of getting beat up, and I especially feel very bad for her because she cannot communicate with me how she is feeling. I feel like maybe we should go back to the risperidone even though she gains weight and even though she was still aggressive. It wasn't as bad as it is now.

I started to take invega because risperidone was making me gain a lot of weight. I changed but I can't lose that weight. I was already taking sertraline I still take it. I stopped having my period when on invega and Pregnancy is not on the table already done the test. Can anyone help me?

wow , that's some medication , over the last 10 years i've been on quiet a lot too but for the first 5 year's or so it was mainly anti-depressants and the odd anti psychotic , but they had no odea what they were treating back then, it's only been the last few years i got diagnosed properly ,but they are still not 100% sure about the Bi polar / with psychotic features or Schizoaffective , which is what they call it for now , i don't think there's a whole lot of difference

The weight gain is most probably due to risperidone and even if your son is diagnosed with diabetes it won't go away. Losing wieght while insulin dependent is hard, but it can be done. You could try letting him drink sugar-free drinks and eating low carbohydrate foods like raw veggies and fruits, instead of battling over foods. Take him to his doctor and stay on the Risperidal-risperidone. Have him tested for diabetes.

I don't like all this talk about weight gain. As I said I am already 50 lbs over weight. It is very hard on my self esteem, which only adds to my depression. My weight problem is one of my triggers, (both ways,) when I am feeling bad about myself. I have been proud of myself recently I've been losing about 1 llb a week. I am supposed to take a low dose, I think 1 mg. I am actaully pretty scared of meds.

I must disagree with the other poster. Risperdal was approved by the FDA for use in children on the spectrum in 2006 to treat *repeated* bouts of aggression and irritability as are other anti-psychotics. My son was diagnosed with Asperger's when he was 3 and has been taking Risperidone (Risperdal) for 4 years in varying dosages. Without it he could not have attended mainstream schooling as his aggressive outbursts were a danger to himself, other children and adults.

I was diagnosed with schizo 2 years ago... I was first on Rivotril and switched to Risperidone... I started to get bad achne and gained so much weight that I stopped taking it...

Now i only took risperidone(2mg) for about 25 days and recently stopped taking it one day ago now i was wondering how long does it stay in your system?

My question is on tapering risperidone how long does one need to taper risperidone from a dose of 1mg to 0.5mg in days or weeks?.

i am afrraid this is not the risperidone, but it's called spastic colon (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). it just happened that they occurred by chance simultaneously. when you have anxiety you get spastic colon and especially with the change of weather, i.e. seasonal change from summer to fall say. I know it's devastating. They reckon it afflicts up to 20% of the world's population.

So, if you have a bit of a complex medical history in that you are on different medications because you have diagnosis of one type or another, it would be really important to talk to your doctor first before doing something rather drastic like a fasting water diet. That's not probably the healthiest way to lose weight. Three days of that is a hunger strike. :>) Any weight loss from that would not last. There are better ways to handle trying to lose weight and we can discuss that.

my son, 9 , was taking risperidone 1mg BID. he has missed his doses for 2 days and now came home from summercamp with signs of tardive dyskinesia. Is this because of stopping the risperidone or has the risperidone been masking the tardive dyskinesia ?

How do you manage withstand side effects of both Risperidone and Seroquel.I found even 1mg of Risperidone made me edgy,nervous and anxious.My hypomanic episode resolved in July and my Pdoc was a month late in tapering Risperidone.He started tapering process in September.In future I shall keep far away from these antipsychotics as possible.A most distasteful experience.

I am really happy today.Yesterday I took my last dose of Risperidone which I had been taking since the past four months and which had been tapered off by my Pdoc .I never liked this med which had numerous side effects of which I experienced some,thankfully not the worst ones.I will now only have to take my mood stabilizer which I have been taking for a number of years.

She also gets up at night and looks for things or wanders around. The consultant has prescribed risperidone, although we were hoping for Aricept. I am very concerned about this as internet research suggests it is for aggressive behaviour and will result in oversedation even drooling. I don't want my mum to be a zombie - I'd just like her to be more like her old self. Does anyone have any experience of this drug at all? I'm not going to give it to her until I learn more.

Just like I was prescribed Trazodone and that is my sleeping pill. BUT this third one I take at night is Risperidone which is the substitute of Risperdal. Can someone PLEASE tell me what Risperdal/Risperidone is for? These are sedation, dysphoria, insomnia, sexual dysfunction, muscle stiffness, muscle pain, constipation, photosensitivity and alopecia. The fall could also lead to local tissue spasm and tightness in the surrounding muscles. She needs to be seen by an orthopaedician to rule out this as an effect of injury ad also check for an missed fractures.

Hi everyone, My husband has been taking Risperdal for about 3 months now and he is complaining about weight gain. Indeed he gained some weight, but he is so thin that it's hard to notice. This is a peculiar side effect of these anti psychotics I have observed only in myself and that is why I was more desperate than my Pdoc to get off Risperidone as I realised that it was the Risperidone which was doing this..

i wasnt sure where to post this message, my brother died with a inquest of open verdict he was 37 he was taking risperidone for 3 yrs and diphenhydramine, he had high blood pressure although an ECG has never been done, he was over weight, tinnitus and was diagnosed with delusional disorder and schizophrenia. because he was'nt found until the 7th day of death post mortem was difficult no blood samples could be taken and eyes and brain had liquified..

My daughter just started taking risperidone 2 days ago and is experiencing the trouble swallowing side effect and not opening her mouth very wide when she talks and having trouble speaking. Is this normal? Will it wear off? Its really scaring me.
