Risperidone is generic for Risperidal and I think it's a pretty good option for depression & psychosis. Not so much for anxiety though. It should give you a boost or make you feel energized rather than lethargic due to the increased norepinephrine plasma levels. This does not make you gain weight either. See how it goes and maybe you will be able to eliminate your antidepressant or at least decrease it.

I am actually being tapered from Risperidone and Xanax by my Psychiatrist and am having sleep problems but I shall take Melatonin or Rozerem instead after consulting my Psychiatrist as I dont want go through another withdrawal syndrome.

Hi adel did you encounter insomnia and sleep problems when you stopped risperidone as I am encountering these sleep problems now and the PDoc is fine with my speed of tapering the medication.

She also gets up at night and looks for things or wanders around. The consultant has prescribed risperidone, although we were hoping for Aricept. I am very concerned about this as internet research suggests it is for aggressive behaviour and will result in oversedation even drooling. I don't want my mum to be a zombie - I'd just like her to be more like her old self. Does anyone have any experience of this drug at all? I'm not going to give it to her until I learn more.

A good natural sleep aid is camomile tea. In some stores (like Walmart) it is even called sleepy time tea, Im 12w6d and it really helped me on those restless nights and its all natural.

I just switched to 3rd shift and I'm finding it difficult to sleep enough during the day. Is there a sleep aid that I can safely take while pregnant. I'm currently 14 weeks if that makes any difference.

My Pdoc had suggested an extremely slow tapering of risperidone over 10-12 weeks but I tapered it over 6 weeks and only had minimal withdrawl symptoms.I am yet to go and see him.I am stable on tegretol 1000 mg with no side effects.Hope it stays good.

I asked a pharmacist he said all these are kind of tranquilizers. I know opium, hash, marijuana, etc... are. But is the foregoing list the same because pdocs say stay away from narcotics. Also what's the difference between valerian root and other tranquilizers like xanax, valium etc... . I know that the action of valerian root is to inhibit the reuptake of GABA which is needed also it has anticonvulsant properties. But i need someone educated in this to explain the difference.

I am not sure how long Seroquel would work as a sleep aid. I found it sedating when I first started using it, but now I take 700mg each day and it doesn't make me sleepy at all.

i am afrraid this is not the risperidone, but it's called spastic colon (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). it just happened that they occurred by chance simultaneously. when you have anxiety you get spastic colon and especially with the change of weather, i.e. seasonal change from summer to fall say. I know it's devastating. They reckon it afflicts up to 20% of the world's population.

She is currently on Strattera, serequel, and hydroxizine (to help her sleep). She has only been on the serequel 2 days and it is not helping. The risperidone was stopped immediately because of weight gain. I need some suggestions on what we can do. HELP!

Hello all ! I am back after a few days of rest and detoxing (11 days now!). And i feel really great today!! I'm still a little worried about sleeping though. Anyone have any sleep aid suggestions? Something OTC. I took my last clonidine last night, and am trying not to think about losing sleep tonight.

I've been suffering from insomnia for a few years now. Been prescribed almost every sleep aid available; the OTC's are of no benefit, and the sleep aids I have been prescribed have not been beneficial either because my tolerance to controlled substances is so high due to medicinal treatment for other chronic illnesses. Can anyone suggestion a sleep aid that has helped them achieve more than 1-1/2-2 hours of continuous sleep?

I take melatonin when I cannot sleep, which is a natural sleep aid and it actually really helps me. Maybe you could try to find some sort of natural sleep aid that will help you? Also I have only lasted 17 days as my longest time sober, but during those 17 days on the 17th day I was actually able to fall asleep on my own and get about 5 hr sleep, but the best part was that my restless legs were no longer restless lol.
