Common Questions and Answers about Risperidone side effects autism

risperdal

Avatar n tn ve read the side effects of Tardive Dyskinesia can be irreversable I want to discontinue the Risperdal ASAP!!! I have cut his dose in half but I'm wondering with an antipsychotic drug if I can stop "cold turkey" or will it do my son more harm that way rather than weaning him off. He also takes Citalopram (celexa) 40mg per day. Any help would be appreciated.
1649932 tn?1348082640 A couple of the many, many side effects of risperidone are agitation and anxiety. Also, this medication is recommended to be initially dosed at 1mg bid (TWICE A DAY) with incremental increases of 1mg bid on days 2 and 3 to a dose of 3 mg bid on day 3. (This would be a total of 6mg per day) If you have been on risperidone for three weeks and you're still on the starting dose, you need to ask your doctor why he is keeping you at the level.
Avatar f tn I do wish yo luck dear. It is hard. Some will say to look into side effects of the medication and that is something any prudent parent will do. If they are exacerbating aggressiveness, that is something to consider. Has she had a period of being drug free any time recently and what is that like? But your daughter sounds like she has so many significant issues going on that to make her feel more peaceful inside seems to be a great goal. You need peace though too.
Avatar m tn Since then we found out that Risperidone is know for side effects such as tardive dyskinesia. We are seriously concerned now. Will this be permanent ? What is the best way to examine this problem ? Thanks for any suggestions !
Avatar f tn Is this combination of drugs safe? I have read about the serious side effects of lamictal and about possible drug interactions between lamictalan resirdone. What side effects should we expect and which ones pose a danger to our child?
Avatar f tn //www.pharmacydrugguide.com/Risperdal_Side_Effects and this one is for Coupons http://www.pharmacydrugguide.com/Risperdal_Coupons. Still need to google and find more information on this drug and it's uses. But thought i would share this part.
603015 tn?1329862973 You could ask her Pdoc if she could be changed to a mood stabilizer called Lamictal. It is much better tolerated with least possible side effects compared to the Risperidone and similar group of medicines.
Avatar f tn It has many side effects and there are other meds that can work as well. Do take a look at the many side effects of Risperidone. I do not know your daughters age, but it is not recommended below certain age levels. Hopefully this is a psychiatrist that prescribed this med. and not a general md? If you have any more questions please post.
Avatar f tn My daughter is mentally retarded, has autism, ADHD, and more recently has been diagnosed with Intermittent Explosive disorder. She is 10 and her level of MR is severe so she is unable to tell me how she feels. She has always been aggressive towards herself and others. She has been on risperidone for many years. Recently we have tried other drugs and her symptoms of aggression have increased. She is currently on Strattera, serequel, and hydroxizine (to help her sleep).
Avatar n tn This is something that you should ask your Doctor about ,here is a link may be helpful, there is much on line regarding this www.mayoclinic.com/health/drug.../DSECTION=side-effects my opinion is it could be side effects of stopping the med .
Avatar m tn t know anything about risperidone, but depakote is an antipsychotic with a laundry list of side effects longer than all the laundry lists in the largest laundromat. It's a tough drug even for those it was intended for. But if he's been on the drug for a while and this just started, that's another thing, but I'd be very curious why a 9 year old who isn't psychotic would be put on this particular medication.
Avatar f tn My Doctor just switch my medication from 150 mg of Effexor XR to 400 mg of Seroquel XR. I dropped my dosage of Effexor gradually but I still experienced terrible withdrawl. Now I am experiencing bad side effects, " I'm guessing ths", from the Seroquel. I have gained weight in my stomach area very rapidly, I have pain and stiffness in my legs, 24 hour dry mouth and sinuses and I feel like I could cry at the drop of a hat.

Avatar m tn How do you manage withstand side effects of both Risperidone and Seroquel.I found even 1mg of Risperidone made me edgy, nervous and anxious. My hypomanic episode resolved in July and my Pdoc was a month late in tapering Risperidone. He started tapering process in September. In future I shall keep far away from these antipsychotics as possible.A most distasteful experience.
4258338 tn?1354590297 Im not a big girl always been a size 8-10 and I have a 3 yr old who has high functioning autism. I don't thibk weight has anything to do with autism. Don't be scared of autism. I wouldnt trade my son for nothing and I have never wished that he wasn't autistic.
Avatar m tn If your psychiatrist is unavailable, you should visit your medical doctor and let him know about the situation. He could prescribe medication and techniques to give you relief from the anxiety as well as the other withdrawal symptoms you are having.
892168 tn?1241488171 my son has mild autism he is taking risperidone 1mg twoice a day is there another?
1260240 tn?1336077448 The psychiatrist has now put Glen (16) ASD on prozac (20ml liquid) once a day alongside his 1mg twice a day risperidone (was on 2mg twice daily but had to cut it down due to Glen becoming constipated). Glen's anxiety is still sky high on the risperidone, been on it nearly 8 weeks so she thought she would try prozac as well. Do you think the prozac will help my son?
Avatar m tn s well known that it causes extra pyramidal effect that is one of the side effects of risperidone, but about tardive dyskinia if you meant by TD, I think antipsychotics at this dose have to be taken for a long time.
Avatar f tn It is normally used to treat people with serious mental health problems like schizophrenia. It is a newer type of antipsychotic drug and may have fewer side effects than older antipsychotic drugs. Risperidone has sometimes been given to people in the later stages of dementia.
Avatar n tn http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/guanfacine_ad.htm http://www.depression-guide.com/tenex.htm http://www.drugs.com/mtm/tenex.html I don't see much that would describe your son's behavior here, but if he's taking other meds on top of this one, there could be a reaction.
Avatar m tn Some go the other way and get sleepy. But these side effects are transient in that they are start up side effects. They peter off quickly. They do not make someone sleepy as the first poster is looking for. They are not tranquilizers in anyway. They don't work on a developmental delay but are for psychiatric issues such as depression, ocd, social anxiety, anxiety and panic. Risperdal is a HEAVY duty drug that came out to treat schizophrenia.
Avatar n tn Hi there. Risperidone is an atypical antipsychotic drug with certain side effects. These are sedation, dysphoria, insomnia, sexual dysfunction, muscle stiffness, muscle pain, constipation, photosensitivity and alopecia. The fall could also lead to local tissue spasm and tightness in the surrounding muscles. She needs to be seen by an orthopaedician to rule out this as an effect of injury ad also check for an missed fractures.
Avatar n tn Hi, My son has TS & has had very good results with Haldol with slight negative effects. When U say that ".... on the internet. All of them have awful side effects." Each patient reacts differently & won't have ALL those side effects or any. The percentages for each side effect are listed. Neurologists usually treat TS instead of Psychs. Also, Xenazine is for adults & was used in Canada & Europe before it was approved in the US about 2+ yrs ago.
Avatar f tn I have read Clomid may result in autism in babies. Is it true? What are the side effects of clomid on baby?
990744 tn?1249281999 I read it is okay but to watch for neonatal side effects, which are quite scary and seem traumitising for the child. If I get my citalopram perscription reduced will it still have neo natal effects on our baby?
