I just looked at the pi sheet, and the target dose for bipolar depression is 300 mg, where it should be less sedating than lower doses (the crazymeds.us wiki says above 200 mg is the cutoff for that one). 400-800 mg for mania. It's off label to use risperidone for the depressive side of bipolar, but if anything, you'd want to increase it, not decrease it. A Seroquel increase is probably a better thing to try first.

as far as tegretol is by far the least harmful among mood stabilizers i wish i could sustain it, but i couldn't. yes dose is also important and not only the med. I remember to have tried 3mg and i got crazy. There is also something in medicine called idiosyncrasy meaning a certain hypersenstivity to a substance. So for instance i take 3 antipsychotics the least dose in each.

t taking you completely off of it because for me life looks differently when I am on Seroquel than when I am off. Also the Lithium does take a little while to work but it is a medicine that is prescribed to a lot of us. I tried it for a while but switched back to Lamictal because it worked better for me. How do you manage withstand side effects of both Risperidone and Seroquel.I found even 1mg of Risperidone made me edgy,nervous and anxious.My hypomanic episode resolved in July and my Pdoc was a month late in tapering Risperidone.He started tapering process in September.In future I shall keep far away from these antipsychotics as possible.A most distasteful experience.

Risperidone is generic for Risperidal and I think it's a pretty good option for depression & psychosis. Not so much for anxiety though. It should give you a boost or make you feel energized rather than lethargic due to the increased norepinephrine plasma levels. This does not make you gain weight either. See how it goes and maybe you will be able to eliminate your antidepressant or at least decrease it.

People some time mean AC as MS yet they are meant usually for epileptic i.e. used for BP off-label (e.g lamictal). Whereas AP for schizophrenia mainly also for BP off-label so usually used for BP in psychosis. The only MS i know of in books is the lithium. So why people can't be more clear saying instead of you should use an MS just say you should consider lithium. Some articles (medical) say there is no agreement on the meaning of an MS.

Many drugs are used off-label, but if it were me and I just had normal anxiety I'd probably try to avoid the antipsychotics. Usually they're turned to for off-label purposes for two possible reasons: illegal marketing (see Seroquel, for example) or if the usual suspects didn't work.
