Risperidone in children

Common Questions and Answers about Risperidone in children

risperdal

Avatar f tn First, I can find no indication that risperdal is indicated for ADHD. " In 2006, the FDA approved risperidone for the treatment of irritability in children and adolescents with autism.[6] The FDA's decision was based in part on a study of autistic people with severe and enduring problems of violent meltdowns, aggression, and self-injury; risperidone is not recommended for autistic people with mild aggression and explosive behavior without an enduring pattern.
Avatar n tn I must disagree with the other poster. Risperdal was approved by the FDA for use in children on the spectrum in 2006 to treat *repeated* bouts of aggression and irritability as are other anti-psychotics. My son was diagnosed with Asperger's when he was 3 and has been taking Risperidone (Risperdal) for 4 years in varying dosages. Without it he could not have attended mainstream schooling as his aggressive outbursts were a danger to himself, other children and adults.
Avatar f tn Children—Studies on this medicine have been done only in adult patients, and there is no specific information comparing use of risperidone in children with use in other age groups.
Avatar m tn m not sure if Zofran is used in children but you could ask. Tetrabenzene is used but that has some serious side effects so that might not be for children either. But there are other medications as well. Clonidine in patch form (Catapres) is especially helpful for tic like motions (tardive tourreticism which is a variant of tardive dyskinesia I have as well). I am on Tenex which is helpful as well. I believe both of those are used in children.
Avatar m tn stopping Risperidone (Risperdal) too quickly may be the reappearance of symptoms. i remember to have read somewhere that you need 3 weeks to taper off from risperidone but i don't recall the dose from which you start going down. so i presume 1 week is ok from 1mg till 0.5mg or better give it 2 weeks maximum.
Avatar f tn He does not have depressive symptoms--he gets manic and hears voices when he is stressed so we also have him on a low dose of risperidone and also Abilify (which has been our miracle drug). Mood swings are getting worse and he is getting more aggressive at home (hits walls). Besides getting him a punching bag, I wondered if anyone has had better experience with a different mood stabilizer--maybe something new? We tried tegretol with no effect when he was first diagnosed.
574118 tn?1305135284 I have long been questioning why am i taking so much seroquel (150mg) and only 1mg apexidone (egyptian brand for risperidone) which made me try to reduce the first by all means but in vain, until i discovered that my 1mg of the 2nd equals 100 of the 1st. So by taking 150mg seroquel i am in fact taking 1.5mg of risperidone only. I was trying hard to reduce my seroquel by 50mg meaning trying to reduce my apexidone by 0.5mg which is nonsense.
Avatar n tn what are withdrawl effects on children age 9year old female coming off risperidone? dosages was 0.5mg of rispiradone in the morning with 72 mg of concerta for ADHD. AND A 0.
Avatar f tn t know a whole lot about medications for developmental disabilities in children because my DD does not need to take any. We do give her fish oil supplements. Fish oil contains Omega 3 which helps the brain. I would also make sure that you keep her busy during the day. That way, hopefully, she can get her aggression out by jumping on a trampoline, punching a bag, running, climbing, etc. I would also take dairy out of her diet if you haven't done so already.
Avatar m tn I am really happy today.Yesterday I took my last dose of Risperidone which I had been taking since the past four months and which had been tapered off by my Pdoc .I never liked this med which had numerous side effects of which I experienced some, thankfully not the worst ones.I will now only have to take my mood stabilizer which I have been taking for a number of years.
Avatar m tn She also gets up at night and looks for things or wanders around. The consultant has prescribed risperidone, although we were hoping for Aricept. I am very concerned about this as internet research suggests it is for aggressive behaviour and will result in oversedation even drooling. I don't want my mum to be a zombie - I'd just like her to be more like her old self. Does anyone have any experience of this drug at all? I'm not going to give it to her until I learn more.

1985196 tn?1402190098 t have a whole lott of stability but I appreciate the days that I do. I have been in treatment over 160 days in the last 2 years. Doctors have a challenge with me but I do everything they say and I take what they tell me to.
Avatar n tn I tell you what, there's no way in hell that the crap in risperdal / risperidone left my body in 5 days! It took about 8 months of hardcore cardio exercise for me to purge this poison from my system. I would sweat so much after I tapered off of this, and it would smell like putrid chemicals, and definitely not something that would ever come from a human being.. Please NEVER take this stuff unless you want to be chemically lobotomized..
Avatar n tn Hi there. Risperidone is an atypical antipsychotic drug with certain side effects. These are sedation, dysphoria, insomnia, sexual dysfunction, muscle stiffness, muscle pain, constipation, photosensitivity and alopecia. The fall could also lead to local tissue spasm and tightness in the surrounding muscles. She needs to be seen by an orthopaedician to rule out this as an effect of injury ad also check for an missed fractures.
Avatar f tn i suppose it's indecent to respond to this post being a male at least from our oriental culture or attitude i don't know your meds but risperidone is known to cause this. can also make people lactate whether males or females. also they say topamax. Only they don't advise depakote for young females because chances of ovarian cyst sure your pdoc can replace it.
Avatar f tn we have been experimenting with his meds particularly the risperidone, he was off it for about 3 months and now we are in the process of reintroducing it. he takes 1/2 mg at about 3.30 each afternoon. tomorrow we all go to see his psychiatrist and his meds will be reviewed again. we anticipate they will go up to 1 mg. it is important to get the dosage of both his ADHD drugs working in balance with each other.
Avatar f tn On a more personal note, after years on this forum, I do not like the use of Risperidone except in extreme cases. It has many side effects and there are other meds that can work as well. Do take a look at the many side effects of Risperidone. I do not know your daughters age, but it is not recommended below certain age levels. Hopefully this is a psychiatrist that prescribed this med. and not a general md? If you have any more questions please post.
Avatar m tn I am in full blown withdrawal from risperidone and my psychiatrist is out of town.I got side effects(involuntary movements) so had to quit.My doc will be back 4 days from now.Any suggestions.
Avatar m tn Hi adel just wanted you to know that I feel much better On 0.5mg of risperidone and cant wait to stop this medicine in about 3 days.
Avatar f tn Just curious - who diagnosed Risperidone? And why? I was under the impression that Risperidonel was not be used for children under the age of 11 (although I have heard of it being used to treat severely autistic children and also schizophrenia, bi-polar and other related psychotic disorders). I suppose whether your child will be on this medication for the rest of her life will depend upon her diagnosis - whether the mental health issue is a life-long problem or just a short-term one.
1649932 tn?1348082640 ive been on risperidone for i month now in im feeling sad today i hope i get better in i was just wondering if your on risperidone in do you have up in down days cause thats how i feel one minute im ok the next im depressed.
Avatar n tn I am posting this in the Eating Disorders forum, mainly because it has to do with vomiting. But my main condition is a personality disorder diagnosed in March 2013. After 3 weeks in a mental health hospital, period in which, without being checked or asked about how I am coping, they upped the anti-psychotic to a schizophrenia dosage. The doctor wrote me the diagnosis of schizotypal personality disorder and sent me home to continue to take Solian(Amisulpride)600mg in two dosages.
1260240 tn?1336077448 The psychiatrist has now put Glen (16) ASD on prozac (20ml liquid) once a day alongside his 1mg twice a day risperidone (was on 2mg twice daily but had to cut it down due to Glen becoming constipated). Glen's anxiety is still sky high on the risperidone, been on it nearly 8 weeks so she thought she would try prozac as well. Do you think the prozac will help my son?
