Common Questions and Answers about Risperidone for sleep

risperdal

Avatar m tn Hi adel did you encounter insomnia and sleep problems when you stopped risperidone as I am encountering these sleep problems now and the PDoc is fine with my speed of tapering the medication.
Avatar f tn She has been on risperidone for many years. Recently we have tried other drugs and her symptoms of aggression have increased. She is currently on Strattera, serequel, and hydroxizine (to help her sleep). She has only been on the serequel 2 days and it is not helping. The risperidone was stopped immediately because of weight gain. I need some suggestions on what we can do. HELP!
1742269 tn?1315381633 Risperidone is generic for Risperidal and I think it's a pretty good option for depression & psychosis. Not so much for anxiety though. It should give you a boost or make you feel energized rather than lethargic due to the increased norepinephrine plasma levels. This does not make you gain weight either. See how it goes and maybe you will be able to eliminate your antidepressant or at least decrease it.

Avatar m tn She also gets up at night and looks for things or wanders around. The consultant has prescribed risperidone, although we were hoping for Aricept. I am very concerned about this as internet research suggests it is for aggressive behaviour and will result in oversedation even drooling. I don't want my mum to be a zombie - I'd just like her to be more like her old self. Does anyone have any experience of this drug at all? I'm not going to give it to her until I learn more.
Avatar f tn She was on risperidone for many years but stopped abruptly for weight gain?? Hm. Well if that class of antipsychotic medication worked to control her symptoms, there are others in the class. I'd try that. And weight gain---- well, in the area of managing a difficult patient's symptoms, most physicians look at benefits verses cons. If the benefits are greater often a medication is continued even if it has an unwanted side effect.
Avatar m tn Hi I had been on Risperidone 1 mg for a year. I left it, and went cold turkey. Now the only problem I am facing right now is Insomnia. Can anybody tell me, how long this can go like this.
Avatar f tn we have been experimenting with his meds particularly the risperidone, he was off it for about 3 months and now we are in the process of reintroducing it. he takes 1/2 mg at about 3.30 each afternoon. tomorrow we all go to see his psychiatrist and his meds will be reviewed again. we anticipate they will go up to 1 mg. it is important to get the dosage of both his ADHD drugs working in balance with each other.
171791 tn?1358214381 It ironic that you posted this because I am going back on my Risperidone tomorrow for my OCD behaviors. Last year it was for hallucinations but I noticed that it also worked for my OCD. When I stopped having hallucinations she took me off of it but is going to see how it works for the OCD at a low dose.
Avatar f tn Get his hearing checked out as sometimes it seems like they arent listening ,and they cannot hear well, we have a forum here ,check it out for more input, If your child sleeps a lot during the day he will not want to sleep at night ...at his age he still could use some sleep ..
Avatar f tn A lot of antipsychotics cause sedation, some more than others. Geodon for example not only made me tired all the time (which I didn't even notice because of how tired I am except for the fact I could no longer get up and go after sleeping only 4 or 5 hours) but it also sometimes would make me feel heavy where it was extremely hard to move when I woke up.
Avatar m tn Someone told me that for tapering you got to take 0.5mg for a few days and 0.25 mg for a few days before stopping Risperidone totally which I intend to do as even my Pdoc thinks I can be maintained only on Tegretol.Only problem he is out of town till 25th and he wanted a very slow tapering which I did not agree to.
Avatar n tn my son, 9 , was taking risperidone 1mg BID. he has missed his doses for 2 days and now came home from summercamp with signs of tardive dyskinesia. Is this because of stopping the risperidone or has the risperidone been masking the tardive dyskinesia ?

Avatar m tn I am actually being tapered from Risperidone and Xanax by my Psychiatrist and am having sleep problems but I shall take Melatonin or Rozerem instead after consulting my Psychiatrist as I dont want go through another withdrawal syndrome.
Avatar m tn I took Risp. for about 3 months and at only 1mg per day but it was a horrid drug for me. Dullness, bad sleep, boobs leaked, headaches and dyskinesia that has not gone away. I stopped mine abruptly and switched back to Seroquel (which I wish I didn't take) and I noticed the anxiety got alittle worse and lasted about 2 weeks and that was from only 1mg!
Avatar n tn Risperidone is a so-called "blacklisted" drug and is entirely inappropriate for administration to an elderly patient with Alzheimers. Three years ago Johns Hopkins geriatric unit conducted a seminar at Mount Sinai discouraging it's use in the elderly.
675718 tn?1530033033 i can't sleep, i have nightmares and when i do sleep i dream of combat & being in the military again
Avatar m tn I am in full blown withdrawal symptoms from stopping risperidone with anxiety and my psychiatrist is back 5 days later.I had to stop because of side effects at 1 mg.What should I do?
Avatar n tn I made a mistake and put myself on Risperidone. 0.5g for 3 weeks and I ended up having an allergic reaction that made me discontinue the drug. I have been off it for 3 days now, but I am experiencing severe insomnia and I cannot feel tiredness or happiness. I didn't taper myself off it, because my throat was swelling up to the point I couldn't eat at all. I would love for someone to offer me a little support, as I'm now scared of dying this way.
Avatar f tn t find the Abilify to be helpful and it made me extremely bored. I took Risperidone for a little over a month and stopped abruptly because I realized it wasn't helping and it made me constipated. But soon after I started taking Risperidone (within 1-2 weeks), I started to feel this extremely scared/anxious feeling in my heart. I would have to rub my chest to make it go away. That happened for a few times but I never linked it to the meds.
Avatar n tn We arelucky if he gets 2 hours sleep a day. He has jus started a college course that he really enjoys and now he cant attend that as these tics are so powerful that he cannot keep them in. It looks like clonidine and sulpiride have lost their effect. We are going to see pyschiatrist tomorrow to talk about new meds. Ive heard mixed stories about ORAP, HALDOL and RISPERIDONE. can anyone advise us on which one would work best for such severe motor and vocal tics.
