Avatar m tn OK, I will try to consult with my doctor for Zyprexa (Olanzapine). Wikipedia said FDA approved it for only Mania in bipolar patients not for depression. But I think antipsychotics also reduce depression by looking at the experiences of different people. Can Risperidone also work like Zyprexa? I am currently on it with an anti depressant.
574118 tn?1305135284 very good, members started to vote. So it is not uncommon that it's the antidepressant which makes a pt cross the threshold to become clinically bipolar. Some pdocs refer to this as Bipolar III. The person will have had minor bipolar symptoms going back years, as many with late-onset bipolar do. Antidepressants or other meds initiate a permanent change in the symptoms, causing them to become more extreme and cross the threshold into diagnosable - or clinical - bipolar disorder.
574118 tn?1305135284 So we reverted to our 2nd doctor and stayed with him ever since, who cancelled the Zoloft and changed to [Anafranil (clomipramine 25Mg), stellazin (trifluoperazine 1Mg), benzo (0.75 Mg) and risperidone (1MG)]. I became stable for 3 years and passed my exams and graduated. So it all looks OK now and I am an OCD man with mild depression (much less than the 1st onset) and started to look for a job.
574118 tn?1305135284 Right now your Seroquel is an antihistamine. I just looked at the pi sheet, and the target dose for bipolar depression is 300 mg, where it should be less sedating than lower doses (the crazymeds.us wiki says above 200 mg is the cutoff for that one). 400-800 mg for mania. It's off label to use risperidone for the depressive side of bipolar, but if anything, you'd want to increase it, not decrease it. A Seroquel increase is probably a better thing to try first.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your reply, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder recently by one psychiatrist at the assessment team at the hospital, and he referred me to the recovery team and the psychiatrist ther. The new psychiatrist would have been my second one but she was on maternity leave so he was a locome (I know I was confused) I've been keeping a diary and my mood is up since I posted. I feel more energetic, happy, irritable because Im doing too much at once.

Avatar f tn I am 22 years old and have been taking Risperidone/Risperidal since this past February after being in psychosis. I am not biopolar or schizophrenic. For the past seven months I have been having a dull pressure feeling in my head that never goes away. Could this be from the Risperidone. I am currently on 1 mg of Risiperidone and also 20 mg of lexapro.
Avatar f tn First, I can find no indication that risperdal is indicated for ADHD. " In 2006, the FDA approved risperidone for the treatment of irritability in children and adolescents with autism.[6] The FDA's decision was based in part on a study of autistic people with severe and enduring problems of violent meltdowns, aggression, and self-injury; risperidone is not recommended for autistic people with mild aggression and explosive behavior without an enduring pattern.
171791 tn?1358214381 Have any of u taken this med for BiPolar? I was taking amben and xanex for non sleepess nights n anxiety. When I woud take the ambien I only slept 4 hrs. After telling my Dr. this she asked.....Do u think u could b Bipolor? I asked why she asked me this and she said studies have been done on Bipolor patients taking ambien and it doesnt seem to work on them. This is what led her to prescribe me Risperidone. I sleep good now and still take xanex once a dy.
Avatar m tn nobody can tell. in principle it's life time. but other theories tell you if you stay stable for one whole year without any mood swings then chances are that you will not need the meds. some say 3 consecutive years without mania however since bp is in the genes, then one day you may be subject to stresses and here it is the mania occurs. so my advise keep going then if you find yourself stable you may lessen the dose, etc... no rules really exist.
Avatar m tn That's great! I have heard really excellent things about lamectil (brand name for drug you started). This sounds like the right fit for you!! It's amazing when we start to resurface from a mental health spiral. Seeing light again is a beautiful thing. Do you also do therapy?
Avatar f tn Bipolar is expressed in as many ways as there are personalities and bodies. I don't think there is a limit to how bipolar can be experienced. When I was in my 20's, unmedicated, I could forget I was bipolar for years. It always comes back though, sometimes years, months, weeks, it seems to change all the time and especially as I age. I am off meds now, but am open to the idea I will have to take them again. I am Bipolar 1 and my mania can be very entertaining or ruin my life.
574118 tn?1305135284 While seroquel is known for being one of the best atypicals for the depression phase of bipolar, many atypicals are mood stabilizing and cover both mania and depression. One thing you might ask your doctor if you can try is stopping the seroquel and starting abilify in its place. Abilify is approved as a monotherapy or adjunct treatment for BP I, and is also approved as an antidepressant add-on, so if depression is your problem, it might work.
574118 tn?1305135284 depression 300 mg mania or schizophrenia 800 mg My question would be is whether the potency chart you linked to is only for psychotic/delusional symptoms or also for depression, as some are also used for depression, Seroquel and Ability, for example. May I ask the reason you take the Seroquel? Also, who here takes the Seroquel specifically for depression and what there dose is?
Avatar f tn s whether you need an MS or not and the 25mg of seroquel does it for you at least. If you are not bipolar then I totally agree with you, but if yu are one then it's a different issue altogether. If you are BP then you shall need an MS whether an AP like seroquel or an AC like lamictal say etc...
1787135 tn?1315008583 I am a 21 year old female, diagnosed with bipolar I when I was 18 years old (after a hospitalization due to self injury). For the last year or so, I have been feeling strange. This is going to be a bit long, so bear with me, please, I would really appreciate some answers. Here is a bit of history. I was diagnosed with depression at 15. After that, I was put on several medications (at different times, of course), which included Wellbutrin, Lexapro, Celexa, Zoloft, and Prozac.
Avatar m tn I am taking paroxetine 20 mg, Depakine 200 mg and Risperidone 1mg. tell me what can I do to solve this problem?

1625195 tn?1332178662 BUT this third one I take at night is Risperidone which is the substitute of Risperdal. Can someone PLEASE tell me what Risperdal/Risperidone is for? My doctors were sort of unclear about it and since I was more concerned with getting out of the mental hospital I was in, I forgot to ask them to repeat themselves. Next question, once again, about the Risperidone. Is there any way possible to cut the hunger side-effects? Or any tips to battle the nausea that it causes?
Avatar m tn Well, I can agree with you that taking only an antidepressant helps your memory improve. I used to take some anti-psyc drugs for bipolar and it made my cognition worse. I would talk to your doctor and continue working with him to figure out the best combination for you.
2176476 tn?1338605299 If Seroquel was working for you you could try to appeal the coverage denial. Also there is the Patient Assistance Program for people who cannot obtain coverage at all for a specific medication. That would be worth asking about.
Avatar n tn I have been on 1500mg of depakote for 6 months for bipolar disorder and I was wondering does anybody know how to get off this stuff without all the seizures and withdrawals. Any help would be appreciated.
574118 tn?1305135284 How come I developed mania. Was I bipolar by birth without knowing?. Did I take wrong meds for 4 years after the accident to confront the phobia, fear, stray thoughts, etc... then all of a sudden I became bipolar because I stopped the risperidone. Again trauma (accident) may trigger phobia, fear, etc... this is OK I suppose but I can't imagine bipolarity. So what happened exactly? Recently, before I had my 2nd mania I felt there are fluctuations of energy.
Avatar f tn Have u googled the meds? I knw citalopram is for anxiety and depression. Risperidone is for mood disorder. My daughter takes them. Not sure bout the others. Google may help. Sorry couldnt be of more help. Good luck.
