risperdal

574118 tn?1305135284 Right now your Seroquel is an antihistamine. I just looked at the pi sheet, and the target dose for bipolar depression is 300 mg, where it should be less sedating than lower doses (the crazymeds.us wiki says above 200 mg is the cutoff for that one). 400-800 mg for mania. It's off label to use risperidone for the depressive side of bipolar, but if anything, you'd want to increase it, not decrease it. A Seroquel increase is probably a better thing to try first.
Avatar m tn For dosage information of prescription medicine, please consult with your doctor. Contraindication: MAOIs, pimozide. Patients in manic phase. Pregnancy. 171791 tn?1358214381 Have any of u taken this med for BiPolar? I was taking amben and xanex for non sleepess nights n anxiety. When I woud take the ambien I only slept 4 hrs. After telling my Dr. this she asked.....Do u think u could b Bipolor? I asked why she asked me this and she said studies have been done on Bipolor patients taking ambien and it doesnt seem to work on them. This is what led her to prescribe me Risperidone. I sleep good now and still take xanex once a dy.
Avatar n tn Doctor tried to up the dosage for Solian, it made me feel constricted again like the Risperidone and doctor suggested I try Risperidone again. This time, the same dosage as the last year, 2 mg Risperidone, made me feel okay and I began a new period, with a new job...I was also switched on Prozac(fluoxetine) 20mg and it worked fine for a while. I did a stupid thing, took 5 pills of Prozac because I was bored, wanted to use them sort of as drugs and I ended up hospitalized again...
574118 tn?1305135284 It could be that those people have some of the genetics of bipolar, but not enough for a diagnosis; but a course of cortisone, as a common example, can cause them to display strong symptoms. Many drugs, like antidepressants and cortisone, can also cause mood changes in people who have diagnosed bipolar. is it not crazy that an antidepressant can alter the diagnosis of a person !!
Avatar m tn OK, I will try to consult with my doctor for Zyprexa (Olanzapine). Wikipedia said FDA approved it for only Mania in bipolar patients not for depression. But I think antipsychotics also reduce depression by looking at the experiences of different people. Can Risperidone also work like Zyprexa? I am currently on it with an anti depressant.
574118 tn?1305135284 While seroquel is known for being one of the best atypicals for the depression phase of bipolar, many atypicals are mood stabilizing and cover both mania and depression. One thing you might ask your doctor if you can try is stopping the seroquel and starting abilify in its place. Abilify is approved as a monotherapy or adjunct treatment for BP I, and is also approved as an antidepressant add-on, so if depression is your problem, it might work.
574118 tn?1305135284 So we reverted to our 2nd doctor and stayed with him ever since, who cancelled the Zoloft and changed to [Anafranil (clomipramine 25Mg), stellazin (trifluoperazine 1Mg), benzo (0.75 Mg) and risperidone (1MG)]. I became stable for 3 years and passed my exams and graduated. So it all looks OK now and I am an OCD man with mild depression (much less than the 1st onset) and started to look for a job.
573297 tn?1304709140 Yeah, his present psychiatrist keeps saying he still needs to take his ADHD meds....All the ADHD meds have had this effect on him though! That is why they gave him rx for risperidone. Last night he was SO off!!! I was really worried about him and kept waking up in the night with these urges to go check on him for fear of the worst. He was fine and hopefully will have a better day today.
Avatar f tn First, I can find no indication that risperdal is indicated for ADHD. " In 2006, the FDA approved risperidone for the treatment of irritability in children and adolescents with autism.[6] The FDA's decision was based in part on a study of autistic people with severe and enduring problems of violent meltdowns, aggression, and self-injury; risperidone is not recommended for autistic people with mild aggression and explosive behavior without an enduring pattern.
8909441 tn?1400551294 If you find the right doctor he can put you on the right meds. I have bipolar I take Depakote 250 MG for it and propranolol 20 mg for anxiety. They just put me on Risperdal.0.5 mg and I've been having crazy nightmares. Waking up crying. Everything was great I could live with no fear, anxiety, not as much manic episodes until they put me on Risperdal.0.5. Get the right doctor and you will be fine.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your reply, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder recently by one psychiatrist at the assessment team at the hospital, and he referred me to the recovery team and the psychiatrist ther. The new psychiatrist would have been my second one but she was on maternity leave so he was a locome (I know I was confused) I've been keeping a diary and my mood is up since I posted. I feel more energetic, happy, irritable because Im doing too much at once.

Avatar f tn s whether you need an MS or not and the 25mg of seroquel does it for you at least. If you are not bipolar then I totally agree with you, but if yu are one then it's a different issue altogether. If you are BP then you shall need an MS whether an AP like seroquel or an AC like lamictal say etc...
574118 tn?1305135284 I add 1 risperidone. Actually they are equivalent; for each 1mg of the latter is equivalent to 100mg of the former. My problem is that I wish to reduce my seroquel a bit but each time I do this I have mixed states. Now I diagnose myself according to the wave theory that my energy is high and my mood is low. Apart from the AC e.g. depakote, lamictal and all the sort of drugs which I hate to even hear their names, does it exist a way to overcome this situation.
Avatar f tn Oh, one last thought - when was the last time he had any change in his medication dosage? If he has been on the same dosage for awhile (and has been physically changing), it may not be as effective or long lasting as it once was. Hope this helps a bit. Best wishes.
Avatar n tn t know what the dosage was, or what else it may have been combined with. The antidote for Risperidone-induced EPS is an anticholinergic. While Benadryl can be used in a pinch, the more common (more potent) agents are Cogentin (Benztropine) and Artane (Trihexyphenidyl). Those are both anti-Parkinson agents that are used to reverse EPS. The half-life of Risperidone is 20 hours. So approximately 1/2 of the administered dosage would be eliminated in a day.
990744 tn?1249281999 I am on 20 mgs of Citalopram and 3 mgs of Risperidone. Is this an okay dosage to be on while you are pregnant? I read it is okay but to watch for neonatal side effects, which are quite scary and seem traumitising for the child. If I get my citalopram perscription reduced will it still have neo natal effects on our baby?
574118 tn?1305135284 there are other sites which mention the maximum dose of both. max for risperidone is 9 while for seroquel is 900. also based on DDD it's 80. when you say equivalence it isn't the drug content but the potency as far the need for the drug. seroquel brochure says 900 don't exceed it while risperidone 9. you see it's a homework i did i am not a pdoc to judge my conclusion but i tried to work out the ratio.
Avatar f tn Bipolar is expressed in as many ways as there are personalities and bodies. I don't think there is a limit to how bipolar can be experienced. When I was in my 20's, unmedicated, I could forget I was bipolar for years. It always comes back though, sometimes years, months, weeks, it seems to change all the time and especially as I age. I am off meds now, but am open to the idea I will have to take them again. I am Bipolar 1 and my mania can be very entertaining or ruin my life.
Avatar f tn m told can cause anxiety) and Lamictal (mood stabilizer for Bipolar). Buspar works great for me and is the kind of med that you can feel accumulate in your system. That way, you don't suffer if missing a dose. I take 10mg 3 times a day. It used to just be 2x, but my job got stressful and we made an adjustment. I was originally given Xanax which was a huge mistake on my GP's part.
Avatar f tn Hello. My bipolar son is seven, and his Depakote and lithium are not doing the job for mood swings anymore. He does not have depressive symptoms--he gets manic and hears voices when he is stressed so we also have him on a low dose of risperidone and also Abilify (which has been our miracle drug). Mood swings are getting worse and he is getting more aggressive at home (hits walls).
Avatar f tn I have been experiencing severe anxiety for about two months now (nothing compared to most people, I know) as a result of a traumatic experience. I could really use some tips on how to relax and clear my mind and deal with this. I'm in therapy but there are so many other issues we are working on as well. I'm bipolar and schizoaffective. What meds are good for anxiety? I am due to see a psychiatrist on may 5 and am worried about what he will switch me to.
1625195 tn?1332178662 BUT this third one I take at night is Risperidone which is the substitute of Risperdal. Can someone PLEASE tell me what Risperdal/Risperidone is for? My doctors were sort of unclear about it and since I was more concerned with getting out of the mental hospital I was in, I forgot to ask them to repeat themselves. Next question, once again, about the Risperidone. Is there any way possible to cut the hunger side-effects? Or any tips to battle the nausea that it causes?
Avatar f tn I recognize that Bipolar I is more severe, however the usual dose for anyone with Bipolar disorder is between 25mg-200mg. Listen, doctors will truly mess up your life without intending to. After 10 years of being heavily dosed by multiple medications (too many to recount) for multiple reasons, I recently began the extremely lengthy process of getting off each medication, one by one.
