Risperidone and weight gain

Common Questions and Answers about Risperidone and weight gain

risperdal

1742269 tn?1315381633 It should give you a boost or make you feel energized rather than lethargic due to the increased norepinephrine plasma levels. This does not make you gain weight either. See how it goes and maybe you will be able to eliminate your antidepressant or at least decrease it.
Avatar n tn Keep to a good diet and exercise regime that is healthy for you. You may gain no weight at all. And if you do begin gaining weight, you and your doctor can determine if this side effect is worth the benefit of the drug. good luck to you and GREAT job overcoming your eating disorder!! Stay well.
Avatar f tn She has only been on the serequel 2 days and it is not helping. The risperidone was stopped immediately because of weight gain. I need some suggestions on what we can do. HELP! I am tired of getting beat up, and I especially feel very bad for her because she cannot communicate with me how she is feeling. I feel like maybe we should go back to the risperidone even though she gains weight and even though she was still aggressive. It wasn't as bad as it is now.
952564 tn?1268368647 I don't like all this talk about weight gain. As I said I am already 50 lbs over weight. It is very hard on my self esteem, which only adds to my depression. My weight problem is one of my triggers, (both ways,) when I am feeling bad about myself. I have been proud of myself recently I've been losing about 1 llb a week. I am supposed to take a low dose, I think 1 mg. I am actaully pretty scared of meds.
Avatar n tn I started to take invega because risperidone was making me gain a lot of weight. I changed but I can't lose that weight. I was already taking sertraline I still take it. I stopped having my period when on invega and Pregnancy is not on the table already done the test. Can anyone help me?
Avatar n tn We were just prescribed this for my son who is 8. He spent the last 3 years fighting outbursts which included throwing things, hitting others, screaming, crying, and not being able to cope with things he didnt like the answer to. He started Trileptal in August and we saw huge improvement. but 2 months ago the doc added Guanfacine and Clonidine to help. then things became bad again. And guanfacine is not easy to come off of. We lately we have had outburts like previous to trileptal.

Avatar m tn Would not know exact specifics but the potential of weight gain will always be there with the current generation of antipsychotics. I do know however that when I was on Zyprexa (which has the strongest potential of weight gain) I gained 35 pounds and that when I requested to be changed to another antipsychotic I was able to lose the weight but I had to make dietary changes. Abilify (along with Saphris and Fanapt) has the least likelihood of this potential but its still there.
Avatar f tn he is adhd so we ( a few doctors) have tryed most of the adhd medications and the risperidone was added b/c he developed a tic studdering as i said before 1st his dr sent him to a neurologist and when all that came back all clear they (the team of drs, my sons dr works with) came up with the risperidone. but since then i've seen the weight gain. he plays all sports.
Avatar n tn The weight gain is most probably due to risperidone and even if your son is diagnosed with diabetes it won't go away. Losing wieght while insulin dependent is hard, but it can be done. You could try letting him drink sugar-free drinks and eating low carbohydrate foods like raw veggies and fruits, instead of battling over foods. Take him to his doctor and stay on the Risperidal-risperidone. Have him tested for diabetes.
1985196 tn?1402190098 s and are normally pretty good with alot of people , only trouble is the Zyprexa can make you want to eat and eat , and can cause weight gain and my GF is on Abilify and doing well but it make's you a little energised so best to take in morning .
Avatar m tn Many medications used to treat mental illness cause weight gain in many users. Different meds have different effects, so while one might result in weight gain, others won't. It's trial and error. When the only drug that works causes a lot of weight gain, that's a big problem.
574118 tn?1305135284 1. There is a lot of trial and error, but you didn't go to 4 years of medical school with another 4 years of residency, so it's not the best idea to assume you know what type of trial and error is right. It can also be dangerous to screw around with your med levels if you do it too quickly. 2. I'm not entirely sure what you're asking here.
Avatar n tn I tell you what, there's no way in hell that the crap in risperdal / risperidone left my body in 5 days! It took about 8 months of hardcore cardio exercise for me to purge this poison from my system. I would sweat so much after I tapered off of this, and it would smell like putrid chemicals, and definitely not something that would ever come from a human being.. Please NEVER take this stuff unless you want to be chemically lobotomized..
603015 tn?1329862973 She is under weight so the docs are not concerned about the weight gain, in fact that would be a good thing.
Avatar m tn My grandson is 9 and has ADHD and Autism. He takes Depakot 1000mg daily and Risperadon 2mg daily. I have noticed an increase in his aggression within the last two weeks. Do these two meds have a tendency to increase aggress?
Avatar f tn I noticed since I started taking the lexapro, I have gained about 10 pounds and it seems to be all in my belly, I have never had problems with weight before, I was the type of person who didn't exercise and never gained weight. Now I exercise and eat very little and still gain weight. I want to withdraw from this medication before it gets out of hand, when I start tapering and withdrawing I get extreme panic symptoms, so i don't know what to do, I feel stuck.
Avatar f tn Risperidone was the best antipsychotic for me but it does have its own side effect probs one being weight gain and blood sugar probs.
1625195 tn?1332178662 Before this whole medicine nonsense was happening, I was trying to lose weight (safely!) and this hunger pain and headaches are making this goal really difficult. And the nausea is making day to day tasks harder than the depression was making things. And this is the last round of questions, promise! Its about the Citalopram/Celexa. There is a suit going against Celexa. Since I'm taking the substitute, do I have anything to worry about when it comes to the dangers of taking Celexa?
1892195 tn?1321258278 i am an 18 year old female prescribed wellbutrin 300 mg, lexapro 30 mg, vyvanse 30 mg, risperidone .25 mg and formula 303 muscle relaxants. i've been on these medications for quite some time and i don't think they have anything to do with my symptoms, but i just wanted to give a short background. over the past couple of weeks, i've been experiencing very odd sensations.
Avatar n tn zyprexa, risperdal, and seroquel. These medications did not cause me to overeat but, I believe that these drugs caused my metabolism to slow down and that is what caused the weight gain. I have found that when I stopped taking these meds that it took 8 to 10 months before I was able to see significant weight loss (and for my metabolism to readjust itself. I have always had a very healthy diet and get plenty of exercise even while on those antipsychotic drugs.
561706 tn?1333947274 I realized I gained an enormous amount of weight and have had to give up lunch every day to stay even, and add in tons of exrecise to lose!
20690598 tn?1503821600 I was diagnosed with schizo 2 years ago... I was first on Rivotril and switched to Risperidone... I started to get bad achne and gained so much weight that I stopped taking it...
Avatar f tn Hi,I have been taking Tegretol since the past Eleven years and been doing very well on it except in July 2009 a huge personal stressor caused a hypomanic episode and I needed Risperidone for 4 months.I have been tapered off Risperidone by my Pdoc and am stopping it tomorrow.
918275 tn?1254068752 I have read that both lithium and depakote can cause weight gain. So where does that leave me? Happiness and being overweight simply do not and cannot coexist in my world. It is just one more thing to be down and depressed and hopeless about. For some reason the weight keeps piling on at about 4lbs a week and seems that there is no end in sight. I could have been skinny and miserable, but now I am overweight and miserable.
4971738 tn?1390565384 I took it for about a year and did really well on it except for the weight gain. Once I was switched to geodon the weight came off. A lot of side effects diminish over time. Maybe that will happen with the brain fog.
