I must disagree with the other poster. Risperdal was approved by the FDA for use in children on the spectrum in 2006 to treat *repeated* bouts of aggression and irritability as are other anti-psychotics. My son was diagnosed with Asperger's when he was 3 and has been taking Risperidone (Risperdal) for 4 years in varying dosages. Without it he could not have attended mainstream schooling as his aggressive outbursts were a danger to himself, other children and adults.

I've been taking Lamictal for about 7 months, along with a secondary anti-psychotic to after a major mania episode. I started on Seroquel for about 3 months, and the combination seemed to work well. I had to D/C the Seroquel when my insurance changed and it wasn't covered. Since then I've tried first perphenazine (4 weeks), then thiothixene (six weeks), but they were too sedating and I was having a problem working.

5 years ago, I had psychosis, so I was prescribed the antipsychotic risperidone. I have been taking 2mg of risperidone a day since then, and I developed hyperprolactinemia as a side effect (high level of the hormone prolactin), so I have not had a period for 1.5 years. A month ago I saw a pulmonologist who told me that based on my PFT results which were all normal asthma or other respiratory inhalers won't help me.

hello doc, im 28yrs female,i was diagnosed with paranoid psychosis 3yrs ago and has been on medication RISPERIDONE 2mg and AMISULPRIDE50mg since then.i have amenorrhea and high prolactin levels im taking treatment with Cabergoline0.5mg,now im getting my menstrual cycle but diagnosed with PCOD so im on METFORMIN 850mg.how long shd i take these antipsychotics,im planning to get pregnant.i heard tht Risperidone is not save during pregnancy plz advise me? MY 10 yr old son has ADHD/ANXIETY/PHOBIA/ AND ALSO A MOOD DISORDER which he is still being evaluated at school perhaps it might be BI-POLAR. He is currently being given RISPERIDONE 1.0 3X /mgCONCERTA 36MG 1X / RITILIN 10MG 2X /AND SEROQUEL 50Mg AT NIGHT. He gets his blood and ekg done regularly.

i am an 18 year old female prescribed wellbutrin 300 mg, lexapro 30 mg, vyvanse 30 mg, risperidone .25 mg and formula 303 muscle relaxants. i've been on these medications for quite some time and i don't think they have anything to do with my symptoms, but i just wanted to give a short background. over the past couple of weeks, i've been experiencing very odd sensations.

That most probably is prolactin elevation which can cause female hormones to increase in males so that there is sexual dysfunction and pain in the nipple area. Having discharge from the nipples can occur too. I did experience that when I was on standard antipsychotics and its a common side effect. It depends on its severity. Having breast milk is rare but that can happen. It should go away in time. However keep your doctor informed and they will follow up.

I just wanted you to know that after starting this Risperidone I have lost interest in everything I use to like in life like reading,music and movies and become withdrawn.That is what I dont like as this Risperdal has almost finished off my interests in things I liked.I had a similar experience in 1997 when I was started on chlorpromazine by another Pdoc and it had then similarly led me to lose interest in everything I liked like reading music and movies.

Hi adel did you encounter insomnia and sleep problems when you stopped risperidone as I am encountering these sleep problems now and the PDoc is fine with my speed of tapering the medication.

my calves and feet gets swollen and tight and hard when i am on my feet either sitting or standing or walking for more then 3 or 4 hours. And i have calf and feet spasm that are severely painful sometimes especially after i am in an air-conditioned place walking or standing for more than one hour. I have very little varicose veins n i dont smoke or drink but i am on prozac 3 tablets in the morning and 2 tablets of risperidone at night. What is wrong with me?

If I were you I would taper and stop the Risperidone and Stelazine and raise the Seroquel to thereuptic range or stop all three and start on Lamictal which is a known MS.You run the risk of Tardive Dyskinesia,diabetes if you take 3 AP's simaltenously.

my son, 9 , was taking risperidone 1mg BID. he has missed his doses for 2 days and now came home from summercamp with signs of tardive dyskinesia. Is this because of stopping the risperidone or has the risperidone been masking the tardive dyskinesia ?

How do you manage withstand side effects of both Risperidone and Seroquel.I found even 1mg of Risperidone made me edgy,nervous and anxious.My hypomanic episode resolved in July and my Pdoc was a month late in tapering Risperidone.He started tapering process in September.In future I shall keep far away from these antipsychotics as possible.A most distasteful experience.

I took risperidone (risperdal) off and on for many years. It helped calm down my irritation, anger and psychotic symptoms--hallucinations and delusions. I started on a small dose 1 mg then 2mg. I climbed to 6 mg until my prolactin level went way past 1000, and my gynecologist went up in arms about it because it completely stopped my menstruation. It got lowered to 4 mg.

hello , yes i'm comming off the Seroquel completely but i'm monitoring it very carefully , so if i start to go down hill i can go back to the amount i was on , and Lamictal was on the cards if the Lithium does'nt work for me , but like you mentioned i haven't been on it long so it might take some time to work , i'm just happy i'm functional again because i've be housebound for like a month and not real well for 3 months or so , so it's great to be productive again

Risperidone is generic for Risperidal and I think it's a pretty good option for depression & psychosis. Not so much for anxiety though. It should give you a boost or make you feel energized rather than lethargic due to the increased norepinephrine plasma levels. This does not make you gain weight either. See how it goes and maybe you will be able to eliminate your antidepressant or at least decrease it.

My mother is very tired, often confused and has a shocking memory. She also gets up at night and looks for things or wanders around. The consultant has prescribed risperidone, although we were hoping for Aricept. I am very concerned about this as internet research suggests it is for aggressive behaviour and will result in oversedation even drooling. I don't want my mum to be a zombie - I'd just like her to be more like her old self.

A couple of the many, many side effects of risperidone are agitation and anxiety. Also, this medication is recommended to be initially dosed at 1mg bid (TWICE A DAY) with incremental increases of 1mg bid on days 2 and 3 to a dose of 3 mg bid on day 3. (This would be a total of 6mg per day) If you have been on risperidone for three weeks and you're still on the starting dose, you need to ask your doctor why he is keeping you at the level.

I am in full blown withdrawal symptoms from stopping risperidone with anxiety and my psychiatrist is back 5 days later.I had to stop because of side effects at 1 mg.What should I do?
