risperidone and ocd

No adel I am not in OCD phase.It is just that I was a bit edgy and wanted to know whether withdrawing from risperdal has a withdrawal reaction so I asked a number of people when I did not get a reply yesterday as someone told me that all these meds have lousy withdrawal symptoms so I was scared.Now my doubts have been cleared.Thankfully the med and it's effects will be out of my system in a few days or weeks.

The Sizodon is Risperidone used for mood disorders and the clonil is for OCD. Did you google the side effects of each drug? Did the doc say why he/she was putting you on Sizodon and clonil together?

This is what led her to prescribe me Risperidone. I sleep good now and still take xanex once a dy. I am feeling better and seem not to have such negative thoughts. ANy feedback would b appreciated.

So we reverted to our 2nd doctor and stayed with him ever since, who cancelled the Zoloft and changed to [Anafranil (clomipramine 25Mg), stellazin (trifluoperazine 1Mg), benzo (0.75 Mg) and risperidone (1MG)]. I became stable for 3 years and passed my exams and graduated. So it all looks OK now and I am an OCD man with mild depression (much less than the 1st onset) and started to look for a job.

My son is 17 and was diagnosed with Tourettes and OCD at the age of 13. We had to wait 4 months of hell to be seen by a pyschiatrist and then had to wait about another 3 months to see some benefits from meds - clonidine and sulpiride. The tablets made him very tired and down and didnt go to school very often as he couldnt concentrate and fell asleep in class. He is very good at keeping in his vocal and motor tics when in public and with his friends but now he cannot do that.

I asked if he thought I being hyper or manic and if manic meant I was Bi polar or still OCD, GAD, PTSD, depresion. He told me he did not think I was manic enough to be bi-polar in his oppinion. Bi-polar people tend to spend to much have sex to easy and do really extream behaviours when they are manic. I dont do anything remotely like that. I more like ADHD hyper but not ADHD my phycologist explained that anxiety or more the adrenalin causes hyper behaviour.

Hello people I'm 20 year old male with hocd(I don't even think its hocd anymore),I've always been interest in girls,but now I don't know anymore,I've lost my libido totally to the point that where I can't even get the slightest bit of attraction out of me anymore and I feel as though I'm just gay and just in denial.I've even tried experiment with a dude it felt weird.I watch gay porn everyday and I'm not aroused by it.

I did have a cousin though who as a teenager was diagnosed with anorexia and it was connected to OCD and she stablized on Risperdal. Risperdal does have mood stabilization properties though and is approved for that usage so see what happens.

Listen to your doctor, he knows what is best for you and your needs. Medication is an individual thing for all of us, and this is why it is best to discuss these issues with your doctor. Take care!

I must disagree with the other poster. Risperdal was approved by the FDA for use in children on the spectrum in 2006 to treat *repeated* bouts of aggression and irritability as are other anti-psychotics. My son was diagnosed with Asperger's when he was 3 and has been taking Risperidone (Risperdal) for 4 years in varying dosages. Without it he could not have attended mainstream schooling as his aggressive outbursts were a danger to himself, other children and adults.

So your doctor must have a point to allow you to stop seroquel I remember in 2006 I finished college and i went to my pdoc saying anxiety is off and no stresses so i want to stop the med (i was dx OCD then) i was taking risperidone and anafranil (an AD) so the stupid fellow said OK, I asked which to ween off from 1st he said the atypical so i stopped the risperidone. The guy then left to the gulf area for more money.

I just wanted you to know that after starting this Risperidone I have lost interest in everything I use to like in life like reading,music and movies and become withdrawn.That is what I dont like as this Risperdal has almost finished off my interests in things I liked.I had a similar experience in 1997 when I was started on chlorpromazine by another Pdoc and it had then similarly led me to lose interest in everything I liked like reading music and movies.

I have ocd and severe anxiety and my last "panic attack" brought about the some feelings of derealization. that scared me. I dont really HAVE those feelings now, i dont think, but I think that I am obsessing about the feelings...or something like that. Are OCD and Anxiety disorders related in some way? I feel like one thing here is feeding off the other. My doctor upped my prescription of anafranil from 200mg a day to 250mg a day. i was on 1 mg of klonopin a day.

Hi adel did you encounter insomnia and sleep problems when you stopped risperidone as I am encountering these sleep problems now and the PDoc is fine with my speed of tapering the medication.

my calves and feet gets swollen and tight and hard when i am on my feet either sitting or standing or walking for more then 3 or 4 hours. And i have calf and feet spasm that are severely painful sometimes especially after i am in an air-conditioned place walking or standing for more than one hour. I have very little varicose veins n i dont smoke or drink but i am on prozac 3 tablets in the morning and 2 tablets of risperidone at night. What is wrong with me?

If I were you I would taper and stop the Risperidone and Stelazine and raise the Seroquel to thereuptic range or stop all three and start on Lamictal which is a known MS.You run the risk of Tardive Dyskinesia,diabetes if you take 3 AP's simaltenously.

Hello! My name is Devon and I've been diagnosed with Bi polar 2, panic and anxiety disorder and ocd. I've been doing great lately until abouta week ago when I woke up one morning ( still feeling fine ) and had 4 cups of coffee throughout the morning. I ate and then decided to do a work out... During the workout I was feeling really weak so I stopped half way through and called it a day for that. I took a bath and my feelings of my body being weak just got worse.

my son, 9 , was taking risperidone 1mg BID. he has missed his doses for 2 days and now came home from summercamp with signs of tardive dyskinesia. Is this because of stopping the risperidone or has the risperidone been masking the tardive dyskinesia ?

hello , yes i'm comming off the Seroquel completely but i'm monitoring it very carefully , so if i start to go down hill i can go back to the amount i was on , and Lamictal was on the cards if the Lithium does'nt work for me , but like you mentioned i haven't been on it long so it might take some time to work , i'm just happy i'm functional again because i've be housebound for like a month and not real well for 3 months or so , so it's great to be productive again

Risperidone is generic for Risperidal and I think it's a pretty good option for depression & psychosis. Not so much for anxiety though. It should give you a boost or make you feel energized rather than lethargic due to the increased norepinephrine plasma levels. This does not make you gain weight either. See how it goes and maybe you will be able to eliminate your antidepressant or at least decrease it.

My mother is very tired, often confused and has a shocking memory. She also gets up at night and looks for things or wanders around. The consultant has prescribed risperidone, although we were hoping for Aricept. I am very concerned about this as internet research suggests it is for aggressive behaviour and will result in oversedation even drooling. I don't want my mum to be a zombie - I'd just like her to be more like her old self.

A couple of the many, many side effects of risperidone are agitation and anxiety. Also, this medication is recommended to be initially dosed at 1mg bid (TWICE A DAY) with incremental increases of 1mg bid on days 2 and 3 to a dose of 3 mg bid on day 3. (This would be a total of 6mg per day) If you have been on risperidone for three weeks and you're still on the starting dose, you need to ask your doctor why he is keeping you at the level.

I am in full blown withdrawal symptoms from stopping risperidone with anxiety and my psychiatrist is back 5 days later.I had to stop because of side effects at 1 mg.What should I do?

I've been taking Lamictal for about 7 months, along with a secondary anti-psychotic to after a major mania episode. I started on Seroquel for about 3 months, and the combination seemed to work well. I had to D/C the Seroquel when my insurance changed and it wasn't covered. Since then I've tried first perphenazine (4 weeks), then thiothixene (six weeks), but they were too sedating and I was having a problem working.

Risperidone is a so-called "blacklisted" drug and is entirely inappropriate for administration to an elderly patient with Alzheimers. Three years ago Johns Hopkins geriatric unit conducted a seminar at Mount Sinai discouraging it's use in the elderly.
