I've been taking it 3 day's now , with the Lithium and Seroquel Xr ( which i'm slowly reducing ) comming off , i'm feeling great , my paranoia is almost gone ,my auditory hallucination's are as good as silenced ,my messed up thinking (Delusions ) are nowhere near as bad ,and i feel that my mood's are stabilizing , i have energy i can do stuff again like leave my house without thinking i'm gonna get shot by a sniper :/ , and my mind seem's to be clearer , I just h

i take lithium btu i havent gone through anything like that though.. i have gained like 30 pounds on it and and got the shakes really bad.. when my dose was to high it made me throw up but nothing major...

I've been taking Lamictal for about 7 months, along with a secondary anti-psychotic to after a major mania episode. I started on Seroquel for about 3 months, and the combination seemed to work well. I had to D/C the Seroquel when my insurance changed and it wasn't covered. Since then I've tried first perphenazine (4 weeks), then thiothixene (six weeks), but they were too sedating and I was having a problem working.

The good thing is I am not manic and my doctor may leave me on just the lithium as a mood stabilizer. I am so happy for you and of course happy for myself. How long was your recovery from your withdraw?

indeed it can, so i would say it's completely normal to encounter insomnia by tapering off from risperidone and this should automatically applies to seroquel, and the rest of the antipsychotics.

Hello. My bipolar son is seven, and his Depakote and lithium are not doing the job for mood swings anymore. He does not have depressive symptoms--he gets manic and hears voices when he is stressed so we also have him on a low dose of risperidone and also Abilify (which has been our miracle drug). Mood swings are getting worse and he is getting more aggressive at home (hits walls).

If I were you I would taper and stop the Risperidone and Stelazine and raise the Seroquel to thereuptic range or stop all three and start on Lamictal which is a known MS.You run the risk of Tardive Dyskinesia,diabetes if you take 3 AP's simaltenously.

He meant simply an anticonvulsant like depakote, tegretol, etc... or the king lithium. I tried them for a very short period but i found them kind of poison. This illness is a neurological one, can't understand the meaning of triggers!!. How come without any notice or change in med, I am going up. It all started 12 years ago when I did a car accident and hit my forehead into the glass shield, apparently I harmed my cortex or limbic...

There is only one medication that was originally approved as a mood stabilizer first. That is Lithium. All other medications were developed for other uses and found to have mood stabilization properties. Most of them are anti-convulsants but the important thing is that they treat mood disorders. Anti-psychotics are always used in bipolar with psychotic features to treat psychosis and can work as mood stabilizers as well.

tried lithium only one pill but i had to stop for some reasons. But I know people who take lithium and very much convinced about it. Pdocs all over the world nowadays try to revert to lithium again. Although you read about the side effects of lithium but those using it say it's safe if well monitored. I remember to have corresponded lately with a famous USA pdoc about some bipolar theory (another story) he said we are going back to lithium.

I started on Lithium, diag. as Manic Depressive. I think it was the wrong diag. couldn't handle the Lithium. Doc. put me on 1 mg of risperidone/day, still to much for me so now I'm on .5 rispiridone/day with some clonazapem when I have insommnia. Tx. is finished now Doc. will wean me off rispiridone .25 mg/day. Haven't made the change yet. Looking forward to being off everything.

Skip to 19 years old and i had been on several different medications throughout my teen years. This time they give me lithium(600 mg). They test my blood every now and then to make sure the lithium and my blood are aligning or something. One night i take it and i want to throw up, i get shaky, dizzy, and feel like im going to die. Not realizing that i was going through lithium poisoning. I told my doctor and he said “oh im sorry” and he took me off of it as if it was no big deal.

He also asked why taking like Bastet said stelazin and risperidone I was glad to hear it from him. I know stelazin is typical with risk of TD in the long run and i asked this to my original pdoc who said since it works with me then it's OK, wrong of course but i am not a pdoc to decide on the meds.

You can also try calling the the makers of Abilify. Many drug companies will help you if you call them. Also everyone's body reacts to drugs differently and I have tried many. I take Lithium and I don't have any side effects. Have been on it 4 yrs. I did have side effects at the beginning that took 2-3 weeks to go away but they did and it has been fine for me ever since. Try the websites above too. Also some Mental Health Clinics will dispense certain meds, they may have Abilify.

They insisted that I see a shrink a month before I started Tx. Told it was standard practice. I'm taking 1mg. of Risperidone/day, tried Lithium but much too strong for me. He also prescribed Clonazapem .5mg. Saw him once a month during Tx. He is also very experienced with Interferon patients. Don't sweat it, I found it to be a very grounding experience. For instance 100 seroquel = 1 risperidone = 3 zyprexa. My information is that all are given to prevent mania and reduce dopamine responsible for psychosis. Yet seroquel especially is given for depression too this is why it works as a mood stabilizer. Some say all atypical are the same but seroquel seems to be different from readings and at least it works for me. My combo is 75 seroquel + 1 risperidone + 1 stelazin (typical AP). It's weird and crazy usually one AP is enough.

He just did not want to stop treliptal and reduce lithium at the same time,,,,but i insisted and he gave in and he will see me in a month. it is just this sleeping issue that is driving me crazy. for example i drank two chamomile mugs and took passel honey to help me sleep ............i dropped asleep at 10 pm and woke up now at 12:30 am seeming soooooooooooo active but in just 1/2 an hour i will be like a zombie and i even wont be able to sleep.

For instance I used Lithium/Wellbutrin but the Lithium started causing me problems with my blood pressure and weight gain. Now I am on Abilify/Wellbutrin and I love it. It works much better than the Lithium did. Mania comes on suddenly after a bipolar person has been diagnosed with depression, more times than not. My mania was due to stress. I was working almost full time and attending college full time. It was too much for me to handle and I had no down time.

I have been on 1500mg of depakote for 6 months for bipolar disorder and I was wondering does anybody know how to get off this stuff without all the seizures and withdrawals. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi PAST HISTORY: I was dx OC D for 4 years (2002-2006). the combo was: [stelazin (typical AP), risperidone, anafranil (tricyclic AD), all in small doses]. After graduation I stopped the meds (not knowing the consequences then) yet I continued on the bloody AD (because depression was still persisting) until I had my 1st mania. Whose responsibility is that, I can't tell.

I must disagree with the other poster. Risperdal was approved by the FDA for use in children on the spectrum in 2006 to treat *repeated* bouts of aggression and irritability as are other anti-psychotics. My son was diagnosed with Asperger's when he was 3 and has been taking Risperidone (Risperdal) for 4 years in varying dosages. Without it he could not have attended mainstream schooling as his aggressive outbursts were a danger to himself, other children and adults.

So I have this prescription for Risperidone. I have not filled it yet and it has been almost 3 weeks. I don't even have the money to fill it right now anyway. But I have researched this medicine and I am not comfortable with all of the side effects. Not just the weight gain but also the possibility of permanent twitching. Not only that but also I have had a majorly bad reaction to anti-psychotic medication and I can't remember what medication that was.

I just wanted you to know that after starting this Risperidone I have lost interest in everything I use to like in life like reading,music and movies and become withdrawn.That is what I dont like as this Risperdal has almost finished off my interests in things I liked.I had a similar experience in 1997 when I was started on chlorpromazine by another Pdoc and it had then similarly led me to lose interest in everything I liked like reading music and movies.

Hi adel did you encounter insomnia and sleep problems when you stopped risperidone as I am encountering these sleep problems now and the PDoc is fine with my speed of tapering the medication.
