indeed it can, so i would say it's completely normal to encounter insomnia by tapering off from risperidone and this should automatically applies to seroquel, and the rest of the antipsychotics.

Risperidone is generic for Risperidal and I think it's a pretty good option for depression & psychosis. Not so much for anxiety though. It should give you a boost or make you feel energized rather than lethargic due to the increased norepinephrine plasma levels. This does not make you gain weight either. See how it goes and maybe you will be able to eliminate your antidepressant or at least decrease it.

I had anxiety and insomnia at 3 mg but at 1 mg risperidone I am better but my Pdoc feels I can be maintained only on Tegretol so he is taking me off Risperidone and Xanax after adequate taper as well.

Hi adel did you encounter insomnia and sleep problems when you stopped risperidone as I am encountering these sleep problems now and the PDoc is fine with my speed of tapering the medication.

These are sedation, dysphoria, insomnia, sexual dysfunction, muscle stiffness, muscle pain, constipation, photosensitivity and alopecia. The fall could also lead to local tissue spasm and tightness in the surrounding muscles. She needs to be seen by an orthopaedician to rule out this as an effect of injury ad also check for an missed fractures. Then only could the muscle stiffness be blamed to be due to risperidone. I made a mistake and put myself on Risperidone. 0.5g for 3 weeks and I ended up having an allergic reaction that made me discontinue the drug. I have been off it for 3 days now, but I am experiencing severe insomnia and I cannot feel tiredness or happiness. I didn't taper myself off it, because my throat was swelling up to the point I couldn't eat at all. I would love for someone to offer me a little support, as I'm now scared of dying this way.

Any psychiatropic medications such as Risperdal should be tapered and weaned off slowly and I would never undergo this without a directive from your doctor. Symptoms of withdrawel from risperdal can be uncomfortable--- insomnia, hallucinations, irritability, etc. The key is to wean slowly to either make these symptoms less or to not experience them at all. Cold turkey is not the way to go.

my insomnia is definitely from the lithium. NO DOUBT. should i stop lithium and take depakine. i am running out of ideas. or stick to seroquel near therapeutic dose.

I must disagree with the other poster. Risperdal was approved by the FDA for use in children on the spectrum in 2006 to treat *repeated* bouts of aggression and irritability as are other anti-psychotics. My son was diagnosed with Asperger's when he was 3 and has been taking Risperidone (Risperdal) for 4 years in varying dosages. Without it he could not have attended mainstream schooling as his aggressive outbursts were a danger to himself, other children and adults.

Hi,I have been taking Tegretol since the past Eleven years and been doing very well on it except in July 2009 a huge personal stressor caused a hypomanic episode and I needed Risperidone for 4 months.I have been tapered off Risperidone by my Pdoc and am stopping it tomorrow.

I just wanted you to know that after starting this Risperidone I have lost interest in everything I use to like in life like reading,music and movies and become withdrawn.That is what I dont like as this Risperdal has almost finished off my interests in things I liked.I had a similar experience in 1997 when I was started on chlorpromazine by another Pdoc and it had then similarly led me to lose interest in everything I liked like reading music and movies.

This is what led her to prescribe me Risperidone. I sleep good now and still take xanex once a dy. I am feeling better and seem not to have such negative thoughts. ANy feedback would b appreciated.

my calves and feet gets swollen and tight and hard when i am on my feet either sitting or standing or walking for more then 3 or 4 hours. And i have calf and feet spasm that are severely painful sometimes especially after i am in an air-conditioned place walking or standing for more than one hour. I have very little varicose veins n i dont smoke or drink but i am on prozac 3 tablets in the morning and 2 tablets of risperidone at night. What is wrong with me?

my son, 9 , was taking risperidone 1mg BID. he has missed his doses for 2 days and now came home from summercamp with signs of tardive dyskinesia. Is this because of stopping the risperidone or has the risperidone been masking the tardive dyskinesia ?

How do you manage withstand side effects of both Risperidone and Seroquel.I found even 1mg of Risperidone made me edgy,nervous and anxious.My hypomanic episode resolved in July and my Pdoc was a month late in tapering Risperidone.He started tapering process in September.In future I shall keep far away from these antipsychotics as possible.A most distasteful experience.

They are both antipsychotics. Your experience with finding the same response from 1mg resperidone and 100mg of Seroquel makes me wonder why you don't just up Seroquel to 250mg and drop the resperidone..

hello , yes i'm comming off the Seroquel completely but i'm monitoring it very carefully , so if i start to go down hill i can go back to the amount i was on , and Lamictal was on the cards if the Lithium does'nt work for me , but like you mentioned i haven't been on it long so it might take some time to work , i'm just happy i'm functional again because i've be housebound for like a month and not real well for 3 months or so , so it's great to be productive again

My mother is very tired, often confused and has a shocking memory. She also gets up at night and looks for things or wanders around. The consultant has prescribed risperidone, although we were hoping for Aricept. I am very concerned about this as internet research suggests it is for aggressive behaviour and will result in oversedation even drooling. I never had any spasms on it. It was the olanzapine and it took only one dose. Before that i also tried risperidone for a month so who knows. I need to get back on seroquel as its the only thing that helps me sleep, but now im too afraid. I hsvent slept at all after my shift tonight im laying in bed and my leg is jerking all over the place. Along with my fingers.

I've been taking Lamictal for about 7 months, along with a secondary anti-psychotic to after a major mania episode. I started on Seroquel for about 3 months, and the combination seemed to work well. I had to D/C the Seroquel when my insurance changed and it wasn't covered. Since then I've tried first perphenazine (4 weeks), then thiothixene (six weeks), but they were too sedating and I was having a problem working.

Thanks adel met my Pdoc today and he restarted me on 1 mg Risperidone and asked me to taper it to 0.5 mg only after 2-3 weeks after consulting with him.He feels a rapid taper would be counterproductive at this stage.He wants me to stop Risperidone by November end.This is my new id.Thanks to you and IADVOCATE for your support.Keep up the good work.
