risperidone and depression

I am 22 years old and have been taking Risperidone/Risperidal since this past February after being in psychosis. I am not biopolar or schizophrenic. For the past seven months I have been having a dull pressure feeling in my head that never goes away. Could this be from the Risperidone. I am currently on 1 mg of Risiperidone and also 20 mg of lexapro.

About one month ago, my energy has been reduced.I haven’t patience to do any working. Evrey Morning I'm napping up to 11 o’clock. I am taking paroxetine 20 mg, Depakine 200 mg and Risperidone 1mg. tell me what can I do to solve this problem?

Have u googled the meds? I knw citalopram is for anxiety and depression. Risperidone is for mood disorder. My daughter takes them. Not sure bout the others. Google may help. Sorry couldnt be of more help. Good luck.

However, a few days ago, I started to feel my dopamine is going down lowering my mood and energy. I am on risperidone 1mg, seroquel 150mg (a strange combo) which worked well. So i removed 25mg seroquel. I resemble this by throwing one bag of sand to lift the balloon. My 2 questions: -- If I keep throwing more bags, is it OK so long it lifts me up. But suppose this doesn't lift me up in the end, but helps me to survive, is this OK as far as BP handling is concerned, i.e.

If I were you I would taper and stop the Risperidone and Stelazine and raise the Seroquel to thereuptic range or stop all three and start on Lamictal which is a known MS.You run the risk of Tardive Dyskinesia,diabetes if you take 3 AP's simaltenously.

A couple of the many, many side effects of risperidone are agitation and anxiety. Also, this medication is recommended to be initially dosed at 1mg bid (TWICE A DAY) with incremental increases of 1mg bid on days 2 and 3 to a dose of 3 mg bid on day 3. (This would be a total of 6mg per day) If you have been on risperidone for three weeks and you're still on the starting dose, you need to ask your doctor why he is keeping you at the level.

I'm diagnosed with panic anxiety disorder and I'm in my 2nd week of new medicaments Mirtazapine (remeron) 15 mg and Risset (Risperidone) 1mg but I'm feeling so anxious and more depressed than I ever was.I'm at a break point.Before starting these medication I had my anxiety in higher levels but I could function,I was able to go out,but now I'm isolated and I don't talk to anyone for all the day,I prefer to be alone with my bad thoughts .

Risperidone is generic for Risperidal and I think it's a pretty good option for depression & psychosis. Not so much for anxiety though. It should give you a boost or make you feel energized rather than lethargic due to the increased norepinephrine plasma levels. This does not make you gain weight either. See how it goes and maybe you will be able to eliminate your antidepressant or at least decrease it.

I've been taking Lamictal for about 7 months, along with a secondary anti-psychotic to after a major mania episode. I started on Seroquel for about 3 months, and the combination seemed to work well. I had to D/C the Seroquel when my insurance changed and it wasn't covered. Since then I've tried first perphenazine (4 weeks), then thiothixene (six weeks), but they were too sedating and I was having a problem working.

Hi adel,initially I had been diagnosed as having depression and put on tricyclic and later SSRI's and later diagnosed in 1997 as having BP and put on another mood stabilizer and later on on Tegretol in 1999 which I have been taking till now.Only because of a stressor I had a hypomanic attack in July 2009 and I was put on Risperidone.I am now OK and will be off the AP in 4 weeks time.Thanks.

My 7 year old son has been diagnosed with ADHD and possibly PDD or Aspergers. We are currently managing him on Concerta, methylphenidate (short acting), risperidone and Prozac. There's a very fine balance and if they are not in synch we see behavior issues. Now, at school he's great because he's in a program that's more like a boot camp but he's done SO well since being put in it. But....at afterschool program we see hitting and kicking etc.

After many years of tackling treatment-resistant depression, I gave into my doctor's advice and tried Zyprexa, an antipsychotic. Three days later, I felt normal again...a feeling so wonderful I can't put it into words. Give them a try and you may be surprised. Antipsychotics ara not just for "psychotic" people...they have many uses. Good luck!

Hi everyone, My husband has been taking Risperdal for about 3 months now and he is complaining about weight gain. Indeed he gained some weight, but he is so thin that it's hard to notice. For now I'm trying to keep our healthy diet as it has always been and keep telling him to do some exercise, I do Yoga and Biking...

This so new to me. I have had mild depression for about 10yr. and always relied on a med to help. Last Feb '10 my dr. put me on abilify and boy did it perk me up. however, the side effects were worse then the depression. no sleep!!! unable to concentrate, overeating, restless legs. So I stopped. I then plunged into the WORST depression and my first panic attack (lasted for 4 days) no eating,heart palpatitions, etc.

The person will have had minor bipolar symptoms going back years, as many with late-onset bipolar do. Antidepressants or other meds initiate a permanent change in the symptoms, causing them to become more extreme and cross the threshold into diagnosable - or clinical - bipolar disorder.

t have ADHD, turns out all I needed was a mood regulator and I am 100% focused and determined to fix every part of life, diagnosed with bipolar spectrum disorder I'm taking care of my hygiene very well, I cut my hair every month, I was able to keep a job for more than 3 months and I am loving my job, previously all of these things were impossible for me to do.

I must disagree with the other poster. Risperdal was approved by the FDA for use in children on the spectrum in 2006 to treat *repeated* bouts of aggression and irritability as are other anti-psychotics. My son was diagnosed with Asperger's when he was 3 and has been taking Risperidone (Risperdal) for 4 years in varying dosages. Without it he could not have attended mainstream schooling as his aggressive outbursts were a danger to himself, other children and adults.

I just wanted you to know that after starting this Risperidone I have lost interest in everything I use to like in life like reading,music and movies and become withdrawn.That is what I dont like as this Risperdal has almost finished off my interests in things I liked.I had a similar experience in 1997 when I was started on chlorpromazine by another Pdoc and it had then similarly led me to lose interest in everything I liked like reading music and movies.

Hi adel did you encounter insomnia and sleep problems when you stopped risperidone as I am encountering these sleep problems now and the PDoc is fine with my speed of tapering the medication.

my calves and feet gets swollen and tight and hard when i am on my feet either sitting or standing or walking for more then 3 or 4 hours. And i have calf and feet spasm that are severely painful sometimes especially after i am in an air-conditioned place walking or standing for more than one hour. I have very little varicose veins n i dont smoke or drink but i am on prozac 3 tablets in the morning and 2 tablets of risperidone at night. What is wrong with me?

From around the age of 14 til 18 I was prescribed both fluoextine and risperidone, sometimes I was on one or the other and at one point, both at the same time. Both of these were used to treat clinical depression I was suffering from at the time, I am not on either of these drugs currently. Recently however, I have been concerned that using these two drugs may have stunted my growth.

my son, 9 , was taking risperidone 1mg BID. he has missed his doses for 2 days and now came home from summercamp with signs of tardive dyskinesia. Is this because of stopping the risperidone or has the risperidone been masking the tardive dyskinesia ?

How do you manage withstand side effects of both Risperidone and Seroquel.I found even 1mg of Risperidone made me edgy,nervous and anxious.My hypomanic episode resolved in July and my Pdoc was a month late in tapering Risperidone.He started tapering process in September.In future I shall keep far away from these antipsychotics as possible.A most distasteful experience.
