17486028 tn?1457116819 HAVE TARDIVE DYSKINESIA FROM ANTISYSCHOTIC MEDICATIONS WAS ON ABILIFY AND RISPERIDONE MOVEMENT PROBLEMS
Avatar f tn Lamictal not very much for me but can happen. Abilify and I believe the other two newly approved antipsychotics, Fanapt and Saphris are less likely to be sedating. Ask your psychiatrist about available options.
1985196 tn?1402190098 wow , that's some medication , over the last 10 years i've been on quiet a lot too but for the first 5 year's or so it was mainly anti-depressants and the odd anti psychotic , but they had no odea what they were treating back then, it's only been the last few years i got diagnosed properly ,but they are still not 100% sure about the Bi polar / with psychotic features or Schizoaffective , which is what they call it for now , i don't think there's a whole lot of difference
Avatar f tn 1.5 months ago, I started experiencing my heart pounding and racing right after taking over the counter diuretics (Pamabrom) for a few days. The palpitations occurred everyday and I would have these palpitations several hours at a time. Since then, I've done EKGs, an echocardiogram, event monitor, and holter monitor. The cardiologists say that they found nothing concerning despite 2 occasions when my heart rate went well above 130 bpm.

3248163 tn?1354847640 I take Abilify and it cost about $650 a month. My insurance company would like me to try something else but since it is still in their formulary they have to cover it.
1742269 tn?1315381633 Risperidone is generic for Risperidal and I think it's a pretty good option for depression & psychosis. Not so much for anxiety though. It should give you a boost or make you feel energized rather than lethargic due to the increased norepinephrine plasma levels. This does not make you gain weight either. See how it goes and maybe you will be able to eliminate your antidepressant or at least decrease it.
Avatar m tn well now im on abilify 10mg at night and that keeps me up half the night....... butb i just want the milk to go away.......
574118 tn?1305135284 Tapping my feet, fidgeting, shaking and twisting my hands. I felt like I was bouncing around. And then my heart would start racing and I would literally have to grab onto something and hold on while this surge was just racing through me. It was like panic but, much much worse. So.... I won't be trying that one again. I would say for adderal you should be checked out for ADD. You'd mentioned before that you can't concentrate. So, maybe you could try that.
574118 tn?1305135284 One thing you might ask your doctor if you can try is stopping the seroquel and starting abilify in its place. Abilify is approved as a monotherapy or adjunct treatment for BP I, and is also approved as an antidepressant add-on, so if depression is your problem, it might work. You could also try other mood stabilizers like depakote, which has pretty good antimanic effects, or tegretol, or lamictal if you mainly get depression. Also, have you ever tried lithium?
Avatar f tn This so new to me. I have had mild depression for about 10yr. and always relied on a med to help. Last Feb '10 my dr. put me on abilify and boy did it perk me up. however, the side effects were worse then the depression. no sleep!!! unable to concentrate, overeating, restless legs. So I stopped. I then plunged into the WORST depression and my first panic attack (lasted for 4 days) no eating, heart palpatitions, etc.
Avatar f tn He does not have depressive symptoms--he gets manic and hears voices when he is stressed so we also have him on a low dose of risperidone and also Abilify (which has been our miracle drug). Mood swings are getting worse and he is getting more aggressive at home (hits walls). Besides getting him a punching bag, I wondered if anyone has had better experience with a different mood stabilizer--maybe something new? We tried tegretol with no effect when he was first diagnosed.
Avatar m tn indeed it can, so i would say it's completely normal to encounter insomnia by tapering off from risperidone and this should automatically applies to seroquel, and the rest of the antipsychotics.
574118 tn?1305135284 I was diagnosed bi polar a few weeks ago as my mood swings were very eratic. One hour good and then the next hopeless. On lexapro and a little abilify and xanax .5 two times a day. I dont really feel the xanax kicking in as I know I developed a tolerance to it, but it does settle me down along with the other two AD's/ Just wish I could get a good nites rest for once. I always seem to only get 5 hours a day without a nap. If I nap I feel like junk the rest of the day.
Avatar m tn He gave me risperidone and benztropine.. Now my questions is is my problem from all of my drug and alcohol problems that im haveing such a hard time with the paranoia or is the adderal.. Or is it the fact that im an addict and im wanting to find something that gives the same feelings of the drugs and alcohol??
603015 tn?1329862973 If I were you I would taper and stop the Risperidone and Stelazine and raise the Seroquel to thereuptic range or stop all three and start on Lamictal which is a known MS.You run the risk of Tardive Dyskinesia, diabetes if you take 3 AP's simaltenously.
Avatar f tn Out of the currently available antipsychotics, Abilify is the least sedating and I believe the two newly approved ones Fanapt and Saphris as well. I believe all 3 are FDA approved for bipolar as well.
1696867 tn?1312609591 They put her on Lithium and then added abilify a week later. The abilify gave her horrible side effects and I never want to see my daughter in that condition again! I detest the drug Abilify. It is a reckless drug in my opinion. I have been prescribed Lamictal now for 3 years. It is the right med for me. I am not on the floor with depression and do not gain weight. I wish some could challenge their docs.
Avatar n tn The antipsychotics most likely to cause this are Clozaril and Zyprexa. The least is Abilify though of course it can and does happen. Diet regulation is the key. As I've posted that will not be a problem with the next generation antipsychotics because they are more specifically targeted to the receptors they need to work on.
Avatar m tn I do know however that when I was on Zyprexa (which has the strongest potential of weight gain) I gained 35 pounds and that when I requested to be changed to another antipsychotic I was able to lose the weight but I had to make dietary changes. Abilify (along with Saphris and Fanapt) has the least likelihood of this potential but its still there.
574118 tn?1305135284 He substituted tegretol with Abilify as my MS. I heard well of Abilify and I happen to have come across http://www.askdrjones.com/2005/02/14/ranking-the-mood-stabilizers/ . To tell you the truth I became happy because I know tegretol needs blood tests, etc…while abilify has a few side effects except some anxiety. I only became suspicious about its potency as a mood stabilizer. Otherwise why do pdocs recommend always one of the triads (lithium, depakote, tegretol) or lamictal lately.
Avatar f tn Be that as it may, he does require mental health services, including pharmacological treatment. Abilify may not be the best choice, however, and an evaluation with a child psychiatrist as a second opinion would be prudent. An alternative treatment would be risperidone.
918275 tn?1254068752 if you bp then your more than ,.Ikey high and low is what bp is..the ablifi can make you mania even when its working..but you also need to be on something for deppreshion such as lamictail.....talk this over with ur pdoc..but yes most bi polars are on ore than 1 med...some takes yrs to get there =combo..i took ablifi it threw me into mania in 4 days...
952564 tn?1268368647 I would talk to your dr about another anti psych that does not play with your blood sugar like most of the new anti psychs do. I went pre diabetic on Risperdone and really gained weight. Abilify, seraquel, geodon, invega, and risperdone all can make you go diabetic so I don't know if it is a good idea for you as you are already diabetic.
574118 tn?1305135284 As for diabetes all the atypicals can cause it including Abilify. My friend got the first signs of diabetes from Abilify and went on a weight reduction diet and it stopped. It never happens overnight. Keep your weight down and sugar intake down and you'll do okay. And as for any antipsychotic, your psychiatrist should do a simple movement disorders test regularly.
Avatar n tn I have been on 1500mg of depakote for 6 months for bipolar disorder and I was wondering does anybody know how to get off this stuff without all the seizures and withdrawals. Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn i know risperidone and seroquel do cause "rapid" weight gain, as my brother takes both for schizophrenia. he is actually up 80-90 lbs now. i was on seroquel for about a month and did see a noticeable difference in my weight going up. i stopped taking it for other reason other then the weight part but i am now on latuda which seem to be helping me loose weight without really trying. everything i've read about the weight gain though is that there is really no official reason for it.
