Avatar n tn Hi, I had been on Risperdal for about 15 months and I recently stopped taking Risperdal. First of all, my periods which had stopped shortly after starting Risperdal returned and my breasts which were producing milk dried up but now I suffer from insomnia. I sometimes get only 1 1/2 hours of sleep a night. Will this go away on its own?
Avatar m tn My 62 year old wife wishes to stop all mental helth medication. Can she safely do so? See her history below: 1980. Intense anxiety, suspiciousness, leading up to a mild psychotic episode. Mild schizophrenic behaviour. After attacks: weepy, depressed. Inactive. Roslyn put on to Melleril, varying doses according to condition. Melleril made Roslyn very dopey, and we could see that this drug had undesirable side-effects.
Avatar m tn They also will continue after you stop Risperdal (or any antipsychotic for that matter) with what are known as withdrawal dyskinesia. All of this will go away but of course the psychosis it is treating will return. If you are diagnosed with tardive dyskinesia Clozaril is still an option. Have your psychiatrist do a movement disorders test and if things to be of concern ask them to refer you to a movement disorders specialist but its never a good idea to discontinue medication on your own.
Avatar n tn I don't think risperdal is an addictive drug. You're thinking of the withdrawal symptoms people can suffer when stopping some of these meds, but I have no personal experience with that drug. I do know it can cause some unwanted side effects, so if you don't think these drugs are right for what's ailing you the sooner you stop the better, but don't stop them abruptly -- taper off.
Avatar m tn So by no means am I recommending him to stop taking his Risperdal. However, he needs good medication(s) to help balance both ends of the spectrum, mania and depression. Bipolars are usually have chronic insomnia and I an not an exception to that rule. I have always struggled to sleep since childhood. I use a natural solution to help me sleep. I have 5mg dissolving melatonin, approved by my doctor, and a sound machine.
Avatar n tn Is your doctor aware of this side effect you are associating with discontinuing the Risperdal? All medications such as this can have withdrawal issues. Cold turkey going without Risperdal would be very rare for a doctor to recommend. Are you sure this was what your doctor wanted you to do? Again, this is not a normal recommendation and especially for a 4 mg dose. You need to see your doctor again. Now, it's been 2 months. Not sure if any withdrawal symptoms would still be going on.
Avatar f tn Hi Adel I did not have anxiety before starting Risperdal only had a manic episode without anxiety and now on tapering risperdal I am having withdrawal symptoms I am convinced.Anyways I too am keen to stop it and have 5 days to go for that.Hope the anxiety subsides.
Avatar n tn Went to my dr. today and he changed my meds. Took me off Zxprexa 20 mg and put me on Geodon 80 mg . I''m hopeful that I want have any any withdrawal symptoms. If there are any symptoms what should I be on the look out for?
Avatar n tn If someone goes off medication so rapidly then withdrawal symptoms will definitely occur. However, even when I was titrated off Seroquel to Risperdal at the exact rate my psychiatrist stated I had flu like withdrawal symptoms that passed after a while but I did feel sick and have to rest up.
Avatar m tn It is just that I was a bit edgy and wanted to know whether withdrawing from risperdal has a withdrawal reaction so I asked a number of people when I did not get a reply yesterday as someone told me that all these meds have lousy withdrawal symptoms so I was scared. Now my doubts have been cleared.Thankfully the med and it's effects will be out of my system in a few days or weeks.
Avatar n tn I am writing for answers for my 15 Year old son with Autism. He has been on Risperdal for about 5 years now and was taking 4mg x 2 daily, HIGH, I KNOW. He is 5'10" 165 lbs. For about the past 6 months he has started with some new behaviors. I relayed these to his Psychiatrist and she has had no comment on them. I researched them myself and found they mimic Tardive dyskinesia in many ways. I have found a new Psychiatrist but can not get in to see her for approx 2 more weeks.
Avatar f tn When I stopped medication (years ago before my current recovery) I became psychotic so that's never a good idea. When I was transferred from Seroquel to Risperdal with my psychiatrist's exact titration schedule (the only way it should be done) I got some typical flu like withdrawal symptoms for a few days and then it passed over. If your psychiatrist has authorized you to change medications, ask them exactly how it should be done and what to expect.
Avatar m tn What I am surprised is that I am still having withdrawal symptoms in spite of having Risperdal tapered slowly by my Psychiatrist. When did you stop your Risperdal?
Avatar f tn I was put on Risperdal 1/2 mg in sept 13 08,recently (last week stopped it ) had to me slighty taper,Im wondering if yoou really neeed to taper,Im not bipolar I have depression and anxiety and was put on Risperdal for racing thoughts,Does any one or has anyone ever just stopped Risperdal without tapering,,my pharmisist said its not nesa sarry byt i dont realy know for sure,i think sometimes he just tells me what he thinks i want to hear,,,,THanks
Avatar f tn I'm taking Geodon and it can cause headaches and nausea as it's side effects. It also causes this really badly if you go through withdrawal from it. It may pass eventually as your body gets used to it but if not and it's unbearable you'll need to change medications. It was good that you took acetaminophen for your headache, hopefully it worked for you and numbed it. I had the dizziness and such from it as soon as I started taking it but that wore off after a few weeks for me.
Avatar n tn I have seen my internal med physician, my psychiatrist, and a neurogist about chronic headaches, chronic tinnitus, and chronic body pain. Depression runs deep in my family history including myself, but with medication and cognitive therapy I lead a relatively stable (but miserable life). The constant physical symptoms have ruined my quality of life. I feel terrible every day, but no one can or will try to diagnose my symptoms. Can these symptoms be caused by Prozac and are they permanent?
735919 tn?1236444549 I was on Risperdal first for almost 15 yrs and developed granulomas ( nasty ringworm looking spots), and became prediabetic, then went on Geodon a for 1 expensive year and developed psuedo parkinsonism and had to quit it too.
Avatar f tn This is only my own opinion. But for me any kind of medication is the last resort, especially whilst their brains are growing. All medicines have side effects. Some of the medication prescribed for autism/ADHD can have permanent effects such as tics etc. Also, you don't have a diagnosis yet, so how do they know what to prescribe? I know other parents who have had hormes prescribed to help with sleep.
Avatar n tn Hi- I developed severe akathisia after taking risperdal at night for sleep- it has been over 3 months since I have been off the meds and am suffering terribly. The neurologist I saw put me on xanax and I am up to 2 mg a day- divided throughout the day. As soon as the dose wears off I begin feeling horribly, anxious, more restless. I have been taking the xanax since May- and origionally was on a dose anywhere between .75 a day to maximum 1.
Avatar n tn I am on risperdal and I was wondering what the possible side effects are of smoking marijuana while on this medication.
Avatar n tn I've been taking risperdal for almost 3 weeks and whenever I smoked some weed, it made my high really intense and pretty scarey. Is weed interfering with the medication?
Avatar f tn Has anyone had success getting off Geodon? How long does the mental withdrawl last? I've tried unsuccessfully two times. The first time I tapered off it within a week with my Psychiatrist and went through horrible physical withdrawl symptoms--painful stomach cramping, hot / cold switches and insomnia, but after two weeks, the physical symptoms subsided, but then detrimental mental lows of suicidal thinking.
Avatar n tn He still gets shor tempered on the risperdal and tenex and prozac. We have upped all the amounts except the risperdal is still at 2 mg a day. He was much better in the beginning. He takes 3 mg of tenex, 2 mg of risperdal and 10 mg of prozac. He still is impulsive and gets into arguments. It seems to be an ongoing problem to adjust his meds. We see the psychaitrist monthly. He has been on other meds and they either made him worse or stopped working.
886552 tn?1241590297 ive been feeling lots of disconection not feeling my feelings at all just in nothingness also feeling like my energy is out of my body and im not firm inside my self my head feels likea mess and also getting pressure at the top of my head and alwayd waking up every day not feeling comfortable and also not feeling pleasure in my penis having lots of anxiety and paranoia bit of deppression because of it im taking risperdal but i dont think i need it can risperdal cause this or what is going on w
886552 tn?1241590297 Risperdal is a generally tolerable medication but can cause some cognitive blunting like all current antipsychotics and a slight drop in blood pressure. Usually those effects mitigate over time. If this has continued to be a problem speak to your psychiatrist and ask them exactly what's going on and then perhaps they could adjust things so you feel better.
