Risperdal with lexapro

Common Questions and Answers about Risperdal with lexapro

risperdal

Avatar m tn I was on Lexapro then to citalopram because of costs, added effexor and still had such horrific depression I wouldn't get out of bed for days. Then I started on 5mg saphris twice a day. At first I felt great but a little too high, so went from 80 mg citalopram to 40 mg a day.
Avatar m tn Wellbutrin is the least likely out of the anti-depressents to be likely to cause mania but it still can happen. With the SSRI's its far more common. It would be very rare for Risperdal to cause mania as generally it has a full mood stablization effect (in addition to an antipsychotic effect) so if that is the only medication you are taking it might be an adverse reaction. You could look up the medication website and discuss that with your psychiatrist.
Avatar n tn He has done quite well with Allegra for seasonal allergies, and even better with Zyrtec. Zyrtec is OTC but allegra is not. Both are well tolerated with Risperdal. Benaadryl is not good with Risperdal. My son, age 17, is zonked out when he takes both. He basically is out like a light and doesn't wake up in the morning (until about 12 hours later) the few times he has taken it. Not good at all. Claritin does not work for him either, nor anyone in my family.
2176476 tn?1338605299 I am currently taking Risperdal, Lamictal, Lithium, and Lexapro. I was on Seroquel XR for quite sometime, but switched back to Risperdal because 1) it is a heck of a lot cheaper, and 2) it really worked well for me, even better than Seroquel. I believe in the fact that medications work quite differently for everyone. I personally have not had any issues with my current combination.
Avatar f tn I have been on Zoloft, wellbutrin, Risperdal, Depakote, Effexor, Lexapro, celexa, and am currently taking 3 Xanax a day and NOTHING seems to help. All suggestions are welcome.
Avatar f tn I have been on 50 mg of Zoloft for about 5 years. I started it after suffering panic attacks and depression for years. I'm 36 years old. I just had my second child in Sept. after the birth of my first child in 2010 I suffered PPD and postpartum thyroiditis. It was then diagnosed Hashimotos. I was hyper then hypo. During all of this I tried a few other SSRI's with no luck and went back to my regular 50 mg dose of Zoloft. Cut to 4 months postpartum after my second child. Same ZOLOFT dose.
Avatar n tn Paxil made my anxiety worse! But we are not all the same...some people swear by this med..and I cannot say how I feel about it without getting into trouble on the board! : ) I have found that I can live without that junk in my body! I think your doctor is also giving you Ativan when you need it in case you get a really bad attack....Paxil by itself does not help. JMO. I would rather just take the Ativan and stick to the required dosage.
Avatar n tn I accepted my childless fate, but started mental heath meds (resperdal and lexapro) to combat my depression. One of the side effects of risperdal is increase in prolactin so amazingly my prolactin is back to normal, but I am still the poster child for irregular periods. I have had my thyroid tested dozens of times with normal results but a resent trip to the hospital yeilded a boarderline low reading so I was placed on .05 of synthroid.
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and have tried a number of medications at different times, usually a combination of 2 or 3 of the following: lithium, prozac, lexapro, seroquel, abilify, risperdal, klonopin, vistaril, zyprexa, ambien, rozerem, & depakote. Zyprexa, Benadryl, Depakote, and Seroquel have caused me to twitch and feel like my skin is crawling an hour (or a few) after I take them.
Avatar m tn I had very very very good luck with Risperdal combined with Zoloft. I was able to even come off both for 6 years without issue. That is something you need to discuss with your pdoc though and work on tapering under the pdoc's care. Anyway, I found that Risperdal was a game changer and 99.9% of my fears subsided. Best of luck!!!
Avatar f tn I just started Invegra 3mg daily which is the new drug in lieu of Risperdal so I will be curious as to how it works. Supposedly, it is just like Risperdal but much more tolerated with less side effects. Maybe something to ask your doc about although I cant comment on personal usage as of yet since it is so new for me.
Avatar n tn He is 10 and on Concerta 54 mg (for last almost 3 years) and Zoloft 100 mg and Intuniv 2 mg and recently Risperdal 0.25 mg every am and 0.5 mg q pm. The neurologist wanted to add another med Abilify on board as he was still having some outburst behavior. I find this troubling that he wants my child on 5 psychoactive meds. we sought a second opinion from a psychiatrist that our son's therapist recommended.
Avatar m tn Recently I was asked to help a young man who had been taking Risperdal for a psychotic illness and who noticed that while taking this his penis and testicles seemed to shrink. There is very little information in the literature about this. We know that Risperdal causes dopamine receptor blockade. Dopamine in turn keeps prolactin levels in check. Therefore Risperdal allows for a raise in prolactin levels and this may cause genital shrinkage.
Avatar f tn We have used Risperdal with our 12 year old son in the past, 2nd and 3rd grade, but due to weight gain he had to be taken off it. We had major problems with sleep so when he went off the meds he went back to not sleeping. Then we found Melatonin, it is a god sent. It is a natural supplement that has helped a lot of children with atuism and other disorders that effect sleeping. As for the agression we have tried behavioral programs that help with it. Good luck.
Avatar m tn I don't know but I never filled my Risperidal prescription. That's what my doctor gave me last time and when I read the side effects I decided it was just too much for me. I have to work and be "professional" as much as possible, so the risk of movement disorder is just too much of a risk. I think I did read the disorder is permanent, but I don't know for sure. It can also cause "zombie like" state, it said, forgot what that's called.
1142551 tn?1264736930 I don't have any experience with risperdal. I do know that most psych meds do take 2-3 weeks to build up in the body. Your son's tantrums could be due to feeling confused after sleeping deeply. It might be a new sensation to him. Or the meds could be making him feel "funny". A lot of kids will say they don't like the way psych meds make them feel. If you are concerned, you should call the Dr. who prescribed the meds. He may need his dosage tweaked.
Avatar n tn He still gets shor tempered on the risperdal and tenex and prozac. We have upped all the amounts except the risperdal is still at 2 mg a day. He was much better in the beginning. He takes 3 mg of tenex, 2 mg of risperdal and 10 mg of prozac. He still is impulsive and gets into arguments. It seems to be an ongoing problem to adjust his meds. We see the psychaitrist monthly. He has been on other meds and they either made him worse or stopped working.
559509 tn?1216180446 Anyway, the anti depressants were stopped and i was gradually put on Risperdal for 18 months life was good, with a little hardening of the right nipple (gynochemastia). but the problem I had was once I had finished my 18 month course, I had an adverse affect called tardive dyskinesia, which is quite unpleasant, and involves lip smacking, tongue poking out, hands moving as thought I am playing the air piano/guitar.
309783 tn?1271958229 She returned from the doctors today with a prescription for concurrent risperdal for OCD. I know her very well. We used to work together and now that we've left work we spend all day together. In the evenings we go to each others houses for supper, our kids all play together and we frequently spend the night at each other's house. We are in constant text contact. My worry is that she does not show any symptoms of what i understand to be OCD.
Avatar m tn Okay, let me ask this a different way? I want to get off the saphris because of the side effects but am afraid of being suicidal again. I'd heard Risperdal is used as a "booster" med for people being on anti-depressants. I take 40mg citalopram (generic version of celexa) and 225 mg Venlafaxine (for effexor) each day, then went to 5mg saphris in am and bedtime. I wondered about using Risperdal hoping not to have the same side effects.
Avatar f tn Did you mean that your anxiety got worse after stopping opiates? I think that that is to be expected. I expect risperdal would help with the anxiety plus be non-addictive. If you continue to have concerns you should take them to your doctor.
Avatar f tn The neurologist put him on risperdal. I just read horrible side effects, like breasts on boys. Is there a more " beginner" drug? Since we see a neurologist instead of child psychologist, I am fearful he doesn't know as much about behavioral medications. Sorry so long.
Avatar f tn I was recently taking off Risperdal I tapered like every other day for 3 days,is this enough taper would i have withdrawal,i know in the past they have just stopped me off it,,is it a drug that needs taperred,,i was on 1/2 mg since sept 13 08
Avatar n tn Is your doctor aware of this side effect you are associating with discontinuing the Risperdal? All medications such as this can have withdrawal issues. Cold turkey going without Risperdal would be very rare for a doctor to recommend. Are you sure this was what your doctor wanted you to do? Again, this is not a normal recommendation and especially for a 4 mg dose. You need to see your doctor again. Now, it's been 2 months. Not sure if any withdrawal symptoms would still be going on.
Avatar f tn I was put on Risperdal 1/2 mg in sept 13 08,recently (last week stopped it ) had to me slighty taper,Im wondering if yoou really neeed to taper,Im not bipolar I have depression and anxiety and was put on Risperdal for racing thoughts,Does any one or has anyone ever just stopped Risperdal without tapering,,my pharmisist said its not nesa sarry byt i dont realy know for sure,i think sometimes he just tells me what he thinks i want to hear,,,,THanks
