Risperdal vs zyprexa

Common Questions and Answers about Risperdal vs zyprexa

risperdal

Avatar f tn That is a big problem for me considering I have an obsession with sex. It made me borderline diabetic and between it and the Risperdal that my new shrink put me on, I am now totally diabetic. I've been on psych meds since I was 23, now 37. I don't advocate this drug to anybody because in my personal opinion, it's a very dangerous drug. All psych meds have risks but this one was the worst I was ever on.
Avatar f tn I was recently taking off Risperdal I tapered like every other day for 3 days,is this enough taper would i have withdrawal,i know in the past they have just stopped me off it,,is it a drug that needs taperred,,i was on 1/2 mg since sept 13 08
Avatar f tn I found Risperdal fairly tolerable. Seroquel was somewhat more sedating and Zyprexa extremely so. The side effects I got are common to all (current) antipsychotics. The more important thing is if you can't tolerate Risperdal and need an antipsychotic you could ask your psychiatrist about changing to a different one. Even though they all basically work in the same manner they are different enough that one might easily be tolerable for you than another.
Avatar m tn On new med called zyprexa, cool took away my really low lowsyou know how that can be.problem now while i'm no longer depressed as hell I' either happy ,angry or don't care mostly angry and I voice it out which is not good cause i act instead of thinking about what i'm sayn.Have no clue whats up wiyh that and i can't control it i'm easy 2 **** off around certain people or things said.Don't know what 2 do don't like it.
Avatar m tn I was put in risperdal in August 2010, because of a benzo withdrawal, and then on zyprexa, and since then I never feel tired, even if I exercise; I never have the sleepy sensation before the sleep. When I sleep, is like a switch in my brain: something turns off, and I sleep; and when I awake, something is turned on, and I am widely awake. I have no emotions - nothing can excite or depress me. Now I'm tappering the zyprexa very slowly, witth the aprovation of my doctor.
Avatar n tn I am currently 26 and just about impotent, i can still get it up but it takes quite a bit of coaxing, i feel blessed that i can get it up at all after years of risperdal depakote seroquel and now im currently on zyprexa, i think shrinks are the biggest quacks and think you should check out this site http://www.stopshrinks.
401554 tn?1270213756 I am on Zyprexa 2.5 mg for depression. It has practically cured me but my heart is beating out of synch all the time now. I was diagnosed with a harmless heart arrhythmia a year ago and the Zyprexa is making it much worse. My cardiologist and psychiatrist said it was nothing to worry about but I'm scared. Risperdal also had the same effect, too. I tried Abilify but It made me way too jittery. Has anyone else out there experienced this?
Avatar m tn Well doctor gave me 2mg risperdal. At the beginning i was ok. When i start to worry little bit i started to get ill. I was disable to concentrate on my work. Later i took seroquel 300mg which i took in past and found some freshness. I was smooth on seroquel but when doctor start changing medicine from seroquel to risperdal , slowly disaster begin on my life. I miss 2 jobs. Which was so easy. Later i took the seroquel back i felt some relief now.
Avatar f tn ADs and BP disorder are always an interesting conundrum. I know that there have been extensive studies regarding a Zyprexa/Prozac combination for BP disorder. Those studies have shown to be effective. If you and your pdoc are thinking about going with Prozac, I would probably look into using it with Zyprexa. The ADs can be hit or miss, especially with BP folks. I know that I (along with many BP friends) have had serious issues with all of the ADs.
Avatar n tn When I was changed from Seroquel to Risperdal I had some standard flu like withdrawal symptoms. Basically I felt run down and lousy and had some aches and pains and had to sleep a lot for a couple of days but it was nothing dangerous and it went away. Don't know if that was specific to that antipsychotic change over or would happen with others. Ask your psychiatrist for more specific information.
Avatar m tn • Other antidepressants- Wellbutrin (made me angry), Anafranil (Helped control obsessive thinking), Cymbalta (no effect), Strattera (no effect) • Antipsychotics- Zyprexa (works slightly, weight gain), Seroquel (doped me up, no help otherwise), Risperdal (no effect), Abilify (made me jittery, helped depression), Latuda (combined with zyprexa, no effect), Lithium (no effect except a rash), Geodon (slight effect, less than Zyprexa) • Benzos- Valium, Librium (anger), Xanax, Klonopin (doped me up),
Avatar m tn Yes all atypical antipsychotics have the potential of weight gain although Zyprexa has the most potential for this side effect. Risperdal and Abilify are also available in rapid dissolve format and Abilify has less of a potential of weight gain although each person responds differently to each medication. The mood stabilizer Lamictal is available in rapid dissolve format as well.
628714 tn?1268238196 Hi Zyprexa (generic Olanzapine) is an atypical antipsychotic medication. Zyprexa is used to treat the symptoms of psychotic conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (manic depression). The most commonly reported side effects are sleepiness or excessive sleeping, dizziness, dry mouth and weight gain. Other side effects include akathisia (an inability to sit still), constipation, dizziness, orthostatic hypotension and tremors.
Avatar n tn I began taking atypical antipsychotics just over a year ago, and stopped just over a month ago. I have been on Risperdal, Abilify, Seroquel, Zyprexa, and Geodon, in that order. Risperdal caused me to have a grand mal seizure. I was only on it for a month or so, and I was taking a fairly low dose (I don't remember precisely how much). Neither Abilify and Seroquel lasted long because of unpleasant side effects (nausea and twitching/akathesia).
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and have tried a number of medications at different times, usually a combination of 2 or 3 of the following: lithium, prozac, lexapro, seroquel, abilify, risperdal, klonopin, vistaril, zyprexa, ambien, rozerem, & depakote. Zyprexa, Benadryl, Depakote, and Seroquel have caused me to twitch and feel like my skin is crawling an hour (or a few) after I take them.
Avatar m tn Resperdal is a second generation anti-psychotic, these side effects, such that are seen with medications like Thorzine and Haldol are not seen as much as with the newer generation ones, like respirdal, geodon, zyprexa. Clozapine or Clozaril can cause severe blood dyscrasias, like low white blood cell counts, which can be dangerous and lead to infection. I think you are supposed to get your blood drawn every few months when you are on that.

Avatar n tn He was released with 2000 mg of Depakote and 2mg of Risperdal daily. He is doing quite well except for having to be hospitalized for a minor surgery and a temp, which during this time the depakote and risperdone were held for three days. Just before being added back he began to show symptoms of the delusions again, after being back on meds none whatsoever. My question is he doesn't seem to be typical Bipolar, never has had the depressions part only the manic, psychotic phase.
518117 tn?1429276273 Namaste, Explanation of the issues (and sequence of events) surrounding the lawsuits that claim that the use of Seroquel, Zyprexa and Risperdal caused health problems such as pancreatitis and diabetes and stroke. Zyprexa, like Risperdal and Seroquel, has been associated with serious side effects in patients, especially those who have already been diagnosed with diabetes.
Avatar n tn Zyprexa - 2 tablets 3 times a day OR Risperdal - 4mm a day Artane - 3 tablets a day Depokine - 2 tablets a day OR syrup Climopixal - 2 tablets a day Xanax - 2 tablets a day For the past 2-3 days she has also been given zyprexa and climopixal injections. Even after all these medicines, she is very very very hyper and most of the time angry. Its very difficult to give her the medicines and she rarely sleeps (i.e.
1714202 tn?1352672419 True abilify is an AP but activating and can cause anxiety for some. On the contrary seroquel or zyprexa do not, but zyprexa is heavy.
Avatar f tn I was on Zyprexa for over 15 years after doctors had tried numerous anxiety/depression medicines without positive results. I was convinced that it was a bad drug and I should quit taking it a year ago even though I was happy and just newly married. I thought life was good so I went off cold turkey...Boy o boy. The horrible withdrawals made me feel like I was doing the right thing and that it was a horrible drug because of how bad the withdrawals were.
Avatar n tn Hi- I developed severe akathisia after taking risperdal at night for sleep- it has been over 3 months since I have been off the meds and am suffering terribly. The neurologist I saw put me on xanax and I am up to 2 mg a day- divided throughout the day. As soon as the dose wears off I begin feeling horribly, anxious, more restless. I have been taking the xanax since May- and origionally was on a dose anywhere between .75 a day to maximum 1.
Avatar f tn Based on my pharmacy tech knowledge, I came up with a new one called Stavzor, then loxapine, tamoxifen and olanzapine (zyprexa) and risperdal and mirtazapine. These are available in the UK (according to the net...so I hope I am right.) The tamoxifen is mostly for the mania though. The mirtazapine is for the depression....which I think you should have one of each to stabalize. Also, you have to be careful in how you ask for different pills....
5790942 tn?1374334321 Do some research on it before you start taking it and really weigh the benefit vs. risk. (Always a very good idea when starting a new drug.) I hope that you are able to feel better soon. Remember that there is no magic cure for opiate withdrawls. We just have to go through it. If you decide to pass on this drug and go the natural route, let us know. There are all kinds of vitamins, supplements , and just little 'tricks' that can help ease your suffering some. Best of luck to you!
420308 tn?1203041262 I was diagnosed with depression and generalized anxiety disorder about 10 years ago. During those 10 years I was prescribed a number of different combinations of medications like Risperdal, Trazadone, Paxil, Trileptal, Klonopin, Geodon, to name a few. Some of those combinations had horrible side effects and never really relieved my anxiety or depression. Now I'm on 112.5mg of Effexor ER, 200mg of Lamictal, 60 mg of Buspar, 1200 mg of Neurontin, 600mg of Seroquel and .
