Avatar f tn hey, i have rapid cycling bipolar and am on a lot of medication, prozac, lithium, lamictal, seroquel. i have put on a lot of weight since going on these meds, ive practically doubled in size! im coming off prozac and intend to come off anything except lithium. Im afraid that i will have severe mood swings when i do this but i need to get my life back, i sleep most of the day because of fatigue and i need to lose weight! any advice please? be well.
Avatar f tn Possible causes -- more stress at work, money probs, a physical injury, a bunch of depression. Lithium can make you tired. Citalopram sounds like an anti-anxiety/sleep med, which could also make you poopy.
Avatar f tn When I was transferred from Seroquel to Risperdal (at the titration rate my psychiatrist instructed me to follow) it took me several weeks of what I was told were "flu like withdrawal symptoms" (not unsafe but just uncomfortable) for them to subside. This has happened with other medications as well.
Avatar m tn should the 2mg dose of Risperdal taken am or pm? Problem with falling asleep. Other meds, 600 mg Lithium 2x a day and 1000 Depakote 2 times a day.
Avatar m tn My son just recently started taking risperdal. I am discovering that good help is very difficult to find. He is currently taking 1.5 mg a day. Last night he could not sleep at all and was afraid because he said the medication made him feel tired but his thoughts are still racing and he can't sleep. Is this something I should inform his doctor about or should I wait for his next week appointment.
Avatar n tn I am bipolar 2 with PTSD. I was on Geodon, risperdal and lithium. The geodon was added last, and the risperdal was weaning down. I took it when it was new. For a few months, I did okay with it and didn't really have any problems. It was stopped because it eventually caused perceptual,,, especially visual, disturbances all of a sudden, and I ended up misjudging the freeway and drove my car over the embankment.
559509 tn?1216180446 Does anyone out there take Risperdal for Bipolar Disorder? I don't see hardly any mention of it around this site. Does it make you gain weight like Depakote? Does anyone out there take it for Bipolar Disorder Type 2? Any opinions or thoughts? I am currently on Lamictal and Welbutrin. I show mixed tendencies ( is that type 1 ),and my Dr gave me Risperdal for what appeard to be a manic state( I was off all meds at the time except Welbutrin which may have excaserbated my mania).
337492 tn?1212458836 I have read horror stories all over the net about Risperdal. I asked my pdoc to give a low dose so I can get sleep. My biggest mixed state symptom is insomnia which equals mania. Yuck! So, I am doing awsome on Wellbutrin and Lithium and have not gone manic, but I am not sleeping at all! So, I thought adding a low dose of Risperdal is a good move?
Avatar m tn Well doctor gave me 2mg risperdal. At the beginning i was ok. When i start to worry little bit i started to get ill. I was disable to concentrate on my work. Later i took seroquel 300mg which i took in past and found some freshness. I was smooth on seroquel but when doctor start changing medicine from seroquel to risperdal , slowly disaster begin on my life. I miss 2 jobs. Which was so easy. Later i took the seroquel back i felt some relief now.
Avatar n tn Hello, My friend's daughter is bipolar with somatic features (she feels like her head is bleeding) and she is on lithium but it isn't helping. She had a bad reaction to Lamictal and some antidepressants but good results with thorazine. Is there any meds you can recommend, alone or in a coctail? thanks.
518117 tn?1429276273 The psychiatrist that treated Todd in the hospital prescribed him Haldol, Lithium and Trazodone upon release. I am really concerned about this combo of meds, as Todd is acting very odd. Seems overly medicated to me. He is scooting his feet, rather than picking them up while walking. I call it the hospital shuffle, as I have seen people in hospitals do this when overly medicated. He just sits and says very little. Almost like in a trance.
Avatar f tn I was just wondering what the best drug to take is on an as and when basis. I take lithium too. Sometimes even on antipsychotics and lithium I get breakthrough symptoms. What I want is to be able to just take something when I need it; alongside the lithium of course. Any suggestions? I know antipsychotics build up over a period of time so it is probably not useful to take these prn.
Avatar n tn Same thing as you, My risperdal was being replaced with the abilify. My lithium stayed. With my risperdal, The cogentin went also. Abilify didn't really do much fpr me. I don't remember exactly what time of day I took it, I let my dr. decide because at time time, Abilify was brand new. i was one of the first people on it for bipolar disorder. As it turned out, I ended up being on low dose Risperdal.
Avatar f tn Im a 33yr old female, 120lbs, smoker, social drinker, overall healthy. My doc has me on 4X150mg capsules of Lithium and my hands are crazy shaking, I read hand shakes are "normal" however does it go away, Ive just up'd my dose of Lithium last week to the 4 capsules and it was then I noticed my hands shook even more, I can even really put on eye makeup...Any suggestions??? Ive noticed a big change for the good within myself being on this med, but this hand thing is driving me nuts.
2010625 tn?1329372056 tried lithium only one pill but i had to stop for some reasons. But I know people who take lithium and very much convinced about it. Pdocs all over the world nowadays try to revert to lithium again. Although you read about the side effects of lithium but those using it say it's safe if well monitored. I remember to have corresponded lately with a famous USA pdoc about some bipolar theory (another story) he said we are going back to lithium.
2176476 tn?1338605299 I am currently taking Risperdal, Lamictal, Lithium, and Lexapro. I was on Seroquel XR for quite sometime, but switched back to Risperdal because 1) it is a heck of a lot cheaper, and 2) it really worked well for me, even better than Seroquel. I believe in the fact that medications work quite differently for everyone. I personally have not had any issues with my current combination.
Avatar f tn Skip to 19 years old and i had been on several different medications throughout my teen years. This time they give me lithium(600 mg). They test my blood every now and then to make sure the lithium and my blood are aligning or something. One night i take it and i want to throw up, i get shaky, dizzy, and feel like im going to die. Not realizing that i was going through lithium poisoning. I told my doctor and he said “oh im sorry” and he took me off of it as if it was no big deal.
952564 tn?1268368647 After all of my research and my very limited budget it seems Lithium would be the only option for me right now. I know it can cause thyroid and kidney issues, so I was thinking of only taking it short term, maybe 6 months at most, when our financial situation stabilizes. I don't know if this would seem rude of me to ask my doctor, but I believe in being a pro-active patient and I am serious about treatment and being well. What do you think?
Avatar f tn So yesterday Abilify(2mg in am) was added to my 600mg(3002xd)Lithium, 1mg(1xd)Xanax and of course 50mg(1/2 or 1@bedtime)..Has anyone had any experience with Abilify?f it's something bad..nevermind.
Avatar f tn I have mood changes. It affect my family. I'am screaming and crying, also depresed and nervous. I'am taking lithium, depakote and haldol. My pdoc give me a list of thinks to do every day (exsise, restriction in coffie consuming, etc), but i could not manage to come back in ,,normal,,..Please if you have these problems tell me how you are managing to control yourself.
Avatar n tn I really had no other side effects from either med. Lithium is more for mania and prozac for depression. I take a Lithium/Wellbutrin combo and it is awsome for me. Controls both sides pretty darn good! It is really trial and error with any med, it might or might not effect your libido. Just have to try and see. If it does, switch again! I know tegretol kills it too. So you might do better on Lithium or Prozac.
Avatar m tn I am the only care taker for my sister who is Bio-Polar and has been on Lithium and Haldol for 42 years. She is 60 years of age - back in the 70's she underwent approximately 120 electric shock threatments because this was apparently deemed right at that time. She suffers almost all of the side affects from the above medications and I would like to know what is the safest way for her to transcend to a newer medication with less side affects.
