The psychiatrist that treated Todd in the hospital prescribed him Haldol, Lithium and Trazodone upon release. I am really concerned about this combo of meds, as Todd is acting very odd. Seems overly medicated to me. He is scooting his feet, rather than picking them up while walking. I call it the hospital shuffle, as I have seen people in hospitals do this when overly medicated. He just sits and says very little. Almost like in a trance.

I have mood changes. It affect my family. I'am screaming and crying, also depresed and nervous. I'am taking lithium, depakote and haldol. My pdoc give me a list of thinks to do every day (exsise, restriction in coffie consuming, etc), but i could not manage to come back in ,,normal,,..Please if you have these problems tell me how you are managing to control yourself.

I was taking Haldol for my bi-polar and it made me too sleepy. I also took Trilafon and it worked well,but there isn't any $4 plan for it. I found out that my Pharmacy has a program for me to get Abilify for free so I want to give it a try. I was wondering if there are any bad side affects to look out for.

A very good friend of mine has been diagnosed BP / PTSD he's currently incarcerated and they are medicating him through sedation, he is taking Depakote which is a normal BP med for him but they were giving him 200mg Thorazine a day until I B*tched and moaned about it till they changed it to Haldol and Cogentin (?) with the Depakote.

I agree with what people said about mood stabilizers but as for antipsychotics the newer atypicals from Risperdal to Abilify are not only safer than Haldol many of them have a mood stabilization effect as well. Any changeover in benzodiazepenes (anti-anxiety agents) especially after long term use is going to create withdrawal symptoms. Xanax is generally used for short term anxiety.

Hi, My 13yr old son has mod-severe ADHD + OCD + Tourettes. In 2006 he showed a normal EKG. He has been taking Concerta ( 126 mg ), Abilify ( 6mg ), Prozac ( 40mg), Intuniv ( 4mg ), & clonidine at bedtime (.15mg). Since the last EKG he has tried diff SSRI's & SNRI's with some pos results. He is coming off the Abilify to try Haldol. His tics are very bad & last from 3pm after school until bedtime. We tried Risperdal yrs ago, but he wet the bed.

my son is 2 1/2 yrs old,diagnosed with global dev delay,he goes through these spells of screaming and constantly hurting himself and anyone around him,he has turned real mean,they have him on risperdal,lorazapham,clonazepam,and haldol,the only one that seemed to have a little effect was the clonazepam,but its still to early to know on that one since they just started it yesterday,.

I agree w/ the good doctor that you need to clarify why your prolactin is high. Several ant-psychotic/mood stabilizer medications do this regularly. I have seen it w/ Risperdal, Haldol & Invega. There is medication to bring down the prolactin, if you can not find a cause that can be fixed. Good luck!

Resperdal is a second generation anti-psychotic, these side effects, such that are seen with medications like Thorzine and Haldol are not seen as much as with the newer generation ones, like respirdal, geodon, zyprexa. Clozapine or Clozaril can cause severe blood dyscrasias, like low white blood cell counts, which can be dangerous and lead to infection. I think you are supposed to get your blood drawn every few months when you are on that.

Haldol is a typical (older antipsychotic that is from Thorazine to Haldol) and has twice the potential of causing short term and long term movement disorders than the atypical antipsychotics (from Risperdal to Abilify, Fanapt and Saphris) but has less of a potential to create diabetes. Some people, especially people with a condition that has psychosis as part of it require an antipsychotic but you could discuss that concern with her psychiatrist.

The only thing that made it go away was the Risperdal they put me on. Unfortunately I had to go off of it because it raised my prolactin (the hormone that makes women lactate and can also stop a womans period) level sky high. So now that I am not on it anymore the nervousness and irritability is coming back. I am on Latuda now but it doesn't seem to be working as good as the Risperdal did. I am not sure what to do. I just don't want to be all nervous and irritable again.

I have taken Geodon, Haldol, Saphris, Risperdal, Seroquel, and Fanapt in just a year and a few months. Also just knowing that Fanapt can cause Tardive Dyskinesia scares me and would have me constantly paranoid if it is going to start. I wanna know if it is a good decision to take this drug until my numbness completely subsides and then stop it. I've been experiencing horrible derealization and depersonalization which leads to these massive panic attacks. They occur while I am in my own home and really cripple me when I decide I want to leave my house. That leads to my agoraphobia, which is a seperate matter I suppose. I was hoping someone could suggesst any medications for my derealization and depersonalization. I've heard for many years now that there are none. I have even tried beta blockers for help.

It seems to help with irritability and aggressiveness. Because of this, some doctors may use it for adhd if that is how a person presents. Now with regards to tics. My son has tics. He has two types. Simple vocal tics which are a hum or throat clearing sound.

Hi- I developed severe akathisia after taking risperdal at night for sleep- it has been over 3 months since I have been off the meds and am suffering terribly. The neurologist I saw put me on xanax and I am up to 2 mg a day- divided throughout the day. As soon as the dose wears off I begin feeling horribly, anxious, more restless. Hello! I receive a 100 mg injection of haldol decanoate on July 27th and I've been dealing with an uncomfortable side effect for the past two months. I get this staring problem where I fixate on small details around me and I can't look away. Like I'll stare at the taillights of the car in front of me or the specks of herbs in my food. And when I try to close my eyes, my eyelids flutter rapidly and I see flashes. And my eyelashes scratch my eyeballs.

I was wondering should Haldol be used for detox or for treating withdrawals? Especially since Haldol stays in the system and has long term side-effects?

So far I have been on lithium, depakote, wellbutrin, geodon, zyprexa, risperdal, and haldol. This is the best medication I have been on so far (last year I considered having a baby, so my doctor suggested perphenazine because it is "safer") because I have had terrible side effects with everything else. I will take your advice and keep listening; I am listening right now.

I am currently taking Haldol 0.5 mg twice a day, Trazodone 50 mg and Doxepin 50 mg for my anxiety and depression symptoms, can you please tell me if these are all okay to take together and am I suppose to take these with food or milk? Risperal is know for breasts growing, and I even started to lactate. Yikes. That was a deal breaker. I think (not 100% sure) all of the antipsychotics can do that but risperadol is the worst by far and away. So that is why he probably went with an older med. I have never heard of anyone having breast issues with Haldol so I think that side effect is a lot rarer. Mind you Haldol isn't used that much and usually not used long term anymore so that could be why I haven't encountered it.

Was it Haldol? Haldol is an anti-psychotic and Reglan (an anti-nausea) is also in the anti-psychotic family. I was given Reglan a long time ago because I had a CSF leak from a LP, I was in severe pain and the Reglan made me FREAK out! I have heard of some ER docs giving IV Haldol for HA, although it does cause some pretty bad adverse side effects! UGH, I can sympathize with you.. After they gave me that Reglan, it felt like I was going to have a heart attack. I was anxious times a million.
